DDF Annual Appeal
Last weekend we encouraged you to pray about the blessings
you are called to share with your Catholic family. This weekend
we invite you to put those prayers into action by making a pledge
to support the DDF Annual Appeal. If you are still discerning your
gift amount, please consider the following questions:
1. How can I establish a deeper relationship with God?
2. Do really believe that everything am and everything have is a gift from God?
3. Is what I give to the church enough to show how grateful I am for what God has
given me?
Please pray for the guidance of the Holy Spirit as you consider the questions above
and give generously.
Questions about the Catholic Faith?
Are you being called to the Catholic Church?
Have you been attending Mass with your Catholic spouse for years?
The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults

Never baptized -----RCIA is for you!
The RCIA is a year-round program—you may join at any time.
Don’t let questions or confusion or marriage/remarriage or divorce issues
stand in your way………you will be directed to help for your situation.

Master of Ceremonies Ministry
We are looking for fully initiated parish members who would
like to have an opportunity to serve at the Altar of the Lord at
Sunday Masses and at special liturgies throughout the year.
MC's are responsible for ensuring that the Mass runs smoothly and
in a consistent manner. MC's assist the priest throughout the Mass
and remain close by in case something is needed. Masters of Ceremonies should
be fully initiated (Baptism, Holy Eucharist, and Confirmation) and may be male
or female. This ministry is ideal for anyone wanting to participate in the Mass in
a more intimate way and previous server experience is beneficial but not required.
Training for Masters of Ceremonies takes place first at parish level but diocesan
training may also be offered.
If you are interested in becoming an MC at St. Catherine of Alexandria Catholic
Church, please contact Yolanda Ortiz, Director of Liturgy at 951-676-4403.

TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION
Until very recent decades “Holy Thursday” and “Good
Friday” were centered on personal pious devotions, not
public liturgy. In urban America, at least in cities with a
significant Catholic population, Holy Thursday was about
veneration of the Blessed Sacrament. People were
encouraged to walk to seven churches for a “visit” to each
parish’s repository, a kind of temporary tabernacle on a side
altar, closer in proximity to the faithful than the usual
tabernacle on the distant high altar. On Good Friday, the
most popular form of devotion was the Stations of the Cross,
or a three-hour program of word and preaching beginning at
noon.
The Holy Thursday seven-church hike was a way of
participating in a custom of the city of Rome. Traditionally,
each day in Lent was assigned to a particular parish church
or basilica in the city. Each week of Lent thus had seven
churches, and pious people tried to get to each one of them.
The pilgrimage was a symbol of unity and also the journey of
faith. Originally, the pope would go to each place for a
liturgy, but political strife removed the pope from Rome in
1305. With the papacy relocated in France, the custom
ceased until Pope Leo XIII expressed interest in restoring it
in 1900, and Blessed John XXIII fully restored the custom in
1959. By the time Pope Leo began to revive the custom,
many American cities had enough parishes and monasteries
that the faithful could vicariously participate in the revived
tradition of stational liturgies by a very long walk!
