Tuesday
Word Study: Students identify the sound for the letter D.
Shared Reading: Students identify the topic and details of an informational book. Students demonstrate effective
discussion skills.
Independent Reading: Students demonstrate proper book handling while reading independently.
Writing: Students listen for and apply past and future tenses while speaking.
Math: Students create a tower of ten, then when given a signal, they break the tower into two pieces in order to explore
composing and decomposing a set of ten.
Science: Students will be able to use their five senses to explore different forms of sound energy. Students will record
data and observations using pictures.
Social Studies: TSW understand the meaning of the word technology. Students will observe all the many ways we use
technology in our school. Students will recognize the impact technology has on our lives.
Wednesday:
Word Study: Students match sounds to spell and read words.
Shared Reading: Students identify the topic and details of an informational book. Students demonstrate effective
discussion skills.
Independent Reading: Students demonstrate proper book handling while reading independently.
Writing: Students match sounds to spell words.
Math: Students count, compare, and analyze how many counters are needed to fill their column in the game, Fill'er Up.
Science: Students will be able to use their five senses to explore different forms of sound energy. Students will record
data and observations using pictures.
Social Studies: TSW focus on families and observe likenesses and differences in the families in the stories and
photographs. Students will focus on members of families and kinship.
Thursday:
Word Study: Students identify the sound for the letter F.
Shared Reading: Students discuss the big idea of a folktale, recognize recurring phrases, and retell main events.
Independent Reading: Students discuss the big ideas of well-known folktales or fables.
Writing: Students listen to a story and then draw the main events in sequence.
Math: Assess and review.
Science: Students will be able to use their five senses to explore different forms of sound energy. Students will record
data and observations using pictures.
Social Studies: Students will verbalize how their family is alike and different from another student’s family. Students
will explore similarities and differences in music, rules, and religious beliefs.
Friday:
Word Study: Students identify upper- and lower-case letters.
Shared Reading: Students listen to and chorally read a folktale, discuss the big idea, and retell a main event.
Independent Reading: Students discuss the big ideas of well-known folktales or fables.
Writing: Students write or dictate sentences in a sequence to retell a story.
Math: Assess and review.
Science: Students will be able to use their five senses to explore different forms of sound energy. Students will record
data and observations using pictures.
Social Studies: Students will focus on the basic needs of families. Students will learn how families meet their basic
needs.
