Saturday,May6from9a.m.tonoontocelebrateNationalTrainDay.
TrainDay,whichisfreeformembersorwithpaidparkadmission,featuresfuneventscenteredaroundThe
LivingDesert’s3,300feetoftrackattheGardenRailroad.TrainDayincludesascavengerhunt,specialtrackless
trainridesaroundthezoo,andofcourseaChoo-Choo-Churrospecial.Modeltrainenthusiastswillenjoy
informativetrainchatsbeingofferedat10a.m.and11a.m.
Thescavengerhuntincludesanin-depthlookatthethree-quarteracreexhibitandencouragesgueststofindthe
funny,hiddenandspecialfeaturesoftheexhibit.Thefirstchildtofinishwithacorrectandcompleteformwill
becometheConductoroftheDay.Allothersthatredeemtheircorrectandcompleteformwillreceiveaticket
toridethetracklesstrain.TheLivingDesertalsowillbeofferingatrainadoptionspecial.Guestswhoadopta
train,atthe$50levelandabove,duringTrainDayfestivities,willreceiveabonusbehindthescenestourofthe
trainexhibitbytheleadengineer(tourheldat11:30a.m.onMay6thonly).
“WeareproudofourmodeltrainexhibitandthevolunteersthatkeepitrunningandNationalTrainDayisa
perfectwaytoshowcaseit,”saidAllenMonroe,President/CEOofTheLivingDesert.“Whatstartedasa
temporaryexhibitduringWildLightshasturnedintoabigandbelovedattractionhereatTheLivingDesert.”
Onefull-timeemployeeandacrewof30volunteersruntheModelTrainExhibit.TheLivingDesert’sGarden
Railroadisopendailyandduringthattime,atleastseventrainsarerunningcontinuouslyonthetracks.The
popularexhibitcoversoverthreequartersofanacreandincludesminiaturelandmarkssuchastheGrand
Canyon,MountRushmoreandghosttownsfromtheOldWest.Themodeltrainexhibitalsofeaturesan
interactivecomponentthatallowsbuddingrailwayconductorsofallagestocontrolthepathsofthreeseparate
trainlineswithjustthetouchofabutton.
NationalTrainDaycelebratesallthingstrains.Fromenthusiastsaboutthebeginningoflocomotivetransportto
engineersdevelopingthefutureofrailtravel,groupsacrosstheUSAgatherforevents,celebration,education
anddiscovery.
