Topic Focus: Rotten Romans-What did the Romans ever do
for us?
In our Creative Curriculum topic, the children will be investigating the history of the Romans,
particularly in Britain. They will find out about key events and how the way of life changed in
Britain at that time. In DT, the children will design and build a Roman siege weapon to combat
the fierce Celts! In Science, we will be learning about solids, liquids and gases and their changing
state. In French we will be learning how to describe our physical appearance and the place we
live. In PE we will be doing gymnastics and invasion games (football).
Maths
English
In English this term we will start by
exploring the book, ‘Journey’ by Aaron
Becker, using this as a stimulus for our
own writing. This will be followed by a unit
on ‘Varjak Paw,’ by S.F. Said, a thrilling
adventure on which we will base our own
narratives and explanation writing.
This half term we will be concentrating on
ensuring we know the 6,7,8 and 9 times
Etables thoroughly. We will develop our
xknowledge of place value in numbers up to
10,000.
tWe will use addition and subtraction to
esolve problems.
nWe will also regularly carry out maths
dinvestigations to develop the children’s

Your child needs this if they are to take home

reading books.
Please ensure that PE kits come to school on

Homework
-We encourage you to read with your child for
10 minutes every day. Please record the books
and pages your child reads in their reading
champion book (this will be given out to children
next week). In addition, talk to them about the
books they are reading and ask them about:
plot; characters; setting; predictions about what
will happen and why.
-The pupils have their own log-in details for
Mathletics and should use this three times a
week. Tasks are regularly set and we encourage
you to challenge them as part of their maths
homework.
-A Creative Homework timetable for the half
term will be sent out in the first week with the
due dates for each section specified.
-Spellings are set on Wednesday and tested the
following week (Tuesday).
Please go onto our school website to find out more about the curriculum and
