Dear booksellers and distributors,
dear friends of design books,
Presenting the world of design in high-quality and excellently designed books is a task to which
we have dedicated ourselves for more than twenty years now. We have so far published around
170 titles, all on the same topic: design and lifestyle.
Some of Red Dot Edition’s most important publications include the design yearbooks. As largeformat coffee table books and collector’s items, they offer a unique overview of the state of
the art in the respective fields of product design, communication design and design concepts.
Our portfolio also includes compilations of the who’s who for the industry, monographs where
we take a look at different design topics in an exciting way, and of course our bestseller every
year – the Design Diary.
We have put together a presentation of our new range of publications for you on the following
pages. We would be delighted to hear from you if you have any queries or suggestions – or of
course if you wish to place an order.
Yours sincerely,
Sabine Wöll

microsonic
This guidance system is conceived to
visualise the paths and destinations
at the new headquarters of microsonic,
a company specialised in ultrasonic
sensor technology. It was realised by
using a clear typography with a distinct
signpost function. Letters are used to
create memorable images, striking initials replace long-winded room names.
Employees and customers are thus
offered a more distinctive approach to
finding their way around the building.
The graphic design concept effectively
sets the scene for special architectural
features such as the transparency of
the building.
The challenge in developing the wayfinding and identity signage for the
Whitney Museum of American Art was
to extend the brand with enough restraint to keep the museum environment
simple, elegant and timeless while not
competing with the art. Whitney’s
“Responsive W” logo is used as a graphic
element to create a unique visual idiom
for the wayfinding program. A flexible
typographic grid is based on this logo,
consisting of graphics that incorporate
arrows, which act as “containers” for
directional information. The monochromatic colour palette is based on black,
grey and white, while the type plays
a secondary and complementary role.

[Event & Exhibition Poster]
[Event & Exhibition Poster]
The aim of the poster was to provoke
reflections on the issue of design and
the urban environment in Taiwan.
Following the assumption that the look
of a city basically depends on the prevailing ideology, a portrait of Chiang
Kai-shek, who was the long-standing
political leader of the Republic of China,
dominates the composition. The silhouette of the politician’s head is embedded
in a dazzling array of Taiwanese advertisements. In their highly dense yet vivid
design, they epitomise the hustle and
bustle of an Asian metropolis.
The ancient Chinese calendar divides
the year into 24 solar terms based on the
exact astronomical positions of the sun
and moon. Many of the most important
traditional festivals in China are also
related to natural conditions and the
cycle of the year. The poster intends to
raise awareness for these cultural traditions and to create respect for nature,
which every individual is a part of.
Aesthetically combining intricate and
large images as well as font elements,
the artist’s language reflects both the
fragility and the power of nature.

Piano Tiles 2
All But Me
[Cosmetics Packaging]
[Cosmetics Packaging]
[Mobile Game]
[Mobile Game]
This South Korean cosmetics line is a
medical product enriched with three
oriental extracts to keep the skin hydrated. The design of the container’s
cap and shoulders was inspired by the
shape and colour of a Korean hat called
a “got”, while its body is delicately expressed with harmonious gradations
of green. For the graphic design of the
container, a vertical layout was used to
create an oriental impression, while
the bottom of the case features a comb
pattern found on traditional Korean
doors. Overall, the product exudes an
impression of Korean sensibility.
ENTIA LOHB’s is a colour-therapy brand
that suggests an effective solution to
various skin problems through an original approach. The packaging concept
differentiates seven skincare lines by
combining nature’s three essential
shades of light and four primary colours,
with the stages of chromaticity overlapping. Nature’s mysterious colour combinations occurring during sunrise and
sunset, as well as horizontal lines, were
applied as gradients for the design
motifs. The colour palette is eye-catching, and the logo and icons on the front
are designed in keeping with the digital
signs, attracting a target group in their
twenties and thirties. The packaging
employs a new material recently spotlighted for its excellent stability, protecting the contents and enhancing its
recyclability, while also focusing on a
smart brand design with better usability.
Piano Tiles 2 is a free single-player game
for Android or iOS. When the player
taps the black tiles which run across the
smartphone screen at different speeds
and act as virtual keys, piano sounds
are created. When touching white tiles,
an off-tune note signals the end of the
game. Fine motor skills, speed and a
sense of rhythm are required. The sequel
of the easily comprehensible game contains a new selection of tunes ranging
from classical music to “Jingle Bells” and
a gameplay which encourages social
network sharing.
The objective of this mobile game is to
steer a spaceship through the universe
by initiating thrusters at the right time
and to save energy while finding one’s
way through the stars. The difficultto-manoeuvre ship leaves a fine linear
trace on the screen. The graphic concept
effectively highlights the tininess of the
manned vehicle in relation to the wide
expanses of space. “All But Me” offers
an aesthetically pleasing gaming experience along with strategic challenges –
there are only a few inhabited planets
that provide options to refuel and trade.

Optic gives cyclists the visual information
to make safer decisions on the road by
integrating a heads-up display, front and
rear cameras and 360-degree proximity
and collision detection. This allows users
to focus on the road ahead with full
awareness of their surroundings and any
potential risks.
Cycling as a sport, fitness activity and
general mode of transport is constantly
increasing in popularity with more
people taking to the roads every year.
Roads are becoming more congested
especially in urban environments and
this can make cycling a more difficult
task. The ability to analyse and react to
a situation relies on a cyclist being fully
aware of his or her surroundings. Optic
gives cyclist the peace of mind to make
the right decisions on the road, with total
awareness and a full understanding of
personal progression.
This device provides cyclists with
the visual information to make safer
decisions and avoid potentially
dangerous road situations by integrating
front and rear cameras with 360-degree
proximity and collision detection. The
act of wearing an obvious camera
when cycling was the key driver for
the aesthetic of the camera feature
on the rear of the helmet. Highlighting
the raised lens detail and the proximity
sensor ensures that any approaching
drivers know their actions are
being recorded.

WAGNER,
With Kosmos, the aim was to create
the most beautiful pen for everyday life.
Every detail and function was considered
to create a unique magnetic pen
mechanism, which hides and reveals the
ball cartridge by moving the front bush
parts back and forth.
Germany
The word “cosmos” refers to an empty
room with the potential for creations –
like a pen with an empty sheet of paper.
We see the brain as a cosmos with
billions of connections and elements.
Within this room lies the ability to create
something extraordinary, only with the
support of thoughts. A sparkling idea
– the Big Bang – can be put down on
paper with a pen to strike new paths
and create something new. This
cosmos is reflected in the design
of this writing instrument.

Sergey GOTVYANSKY
Thanks to the special bag-organiser,
this desk always makes sure everything
is at hand.
Quite often, we carry the same set
of things with us all day—perhaps a
notebook, a set of markers, a cell phone,
laptop or tablet. We lay them out on
the desk in the morning, and gather
them back into a bag by the end of the
day. For this purpose, the VM Desk is
designed with a portable organiser that
saves us from unnecessary movements,
saves time, and prevents us from leaving
important things behind.
The organiser for the desk is essentially
a bag that the user can take along
anywhere. It is made of leather with two
wooden handles and a built-in magnetic
closure. While working at the desk, the
handles sit like two rails resting on two
extended arms at the side of the desk.
Everything one needs is at arm’s reach
and the bag-organiser can rest in an
open or closed state.
The desk itself has a simple folding
design. The table legs function like two
self-supporting foldable props, on which
the tabletop is securely placed via the
recesses under the tabletop and fixed
by with two screws. When the desk
is disassembled, it takes up very little
space. It can even be flat-packed to
enable ease of transportation.
Sergey Gotvyansky (born in 1981 in
Dnipro, Ukraine) graduated from The
Prydniprovska State Academy of Civil
Engineering and Architecture in 2004. In
2008, he founded Nottdesign Studio with
Alexandr Gotvyansky. Operating on the
border between architecture and design,
the design duo creates simple and
functional homes, interiors and objects
that are produced with high quality
materials. When developing products
and design solutions, the studio loves
to explore sustainable materials and
technologies.
Workplace
Sergey Gotvyansky’s design philosophy
is “design is logic and simplicity”.
40
The bush parts appear to levitate
over the shank and hold in position by
balanced forces. Shifting the bush parts
back and forth reveals or hides the ball
pen cartridge. In order to realise this
intuitive design, every detail and function
of writing utensils was questioned. The
result is a unique mechanism based on
magnetic principles, which gives the pen
different appearances in the writing and
the idle position. A universal pattern of
nature perfects this minimalist design
– the golden ratio, which is applied
in the proportions of the pen and its
packaging.
A very robust and light aluminium alloy
was chosen to ensure durability and
a comfortable writing experience with
continuous use. The matte surface
provides a better grip and prevents
fingerprints. A wear-free mechanism
gives an instant visual feedback as
to whether the pen is in writing or idle
position. The small selection of pen
colours will suit the personal preference
of creators. Kosmos is the pen
rewritten.
The visor doubles as a heads-up
display where Optic live-streams the
rear camera and highlights potential
risks. This allows the user to focus on
the road ahead with full awareness of
their surroundings. Cyclists are able
to customise the heads-up display to
monitor the information they need for
their specific journey. The display options
include: a live stream of the rear camera,
a proximity dot-matrix or gauge to show
the distance of approaching hazards,
augmented reality route navigation and
journey statistic interfaces.
as well as a diversity of other industrial
products. The industrial design team
is full of idiosyncrasies, each person
completing the other and bringing out
his or her individual skills. The young
spirit of the team leads to a deep
understanding of modern society and its
needs for innovative creations.
The studio is always equipped with a
focus on creating visually appealing
products with clear lines, aesthetics and
form language; attributes like emotions,
function and innovation are of utmost
importance in the design process. Every
design starts with an empty sheet of
paper and every project ends each
time with a creative solution. Inspiration
comes from nature, science and other
areas that help create a simplified
everyday life. With this in mind, the
studio creates long-lasting products that
will benefit consumers and users.

The Google Self-Driving Car prototypes
are designed to drive themselves with the
push of a button. They are used to test
Google’s latest self-driving software and
hardware and learn about the possibilities
of self-driving vehicles.
Google has developed a software that
allows a computer to see and interpret
the world that surrounds it, then safely
navigate a vehicle through it. The Google
Self-Driving Car is designed to test out
Google’s newest software and hardware,
in order to find out what it would really
take to bring these technologies into
the world. The Google Self-Driving Car
drives itself with the push of a button
and represents a completely new form of
transportation.
The Google Self-Driving Car relies on
a network of sensors and cameras
distributed around the exterior to
perceive the world. Such a new
paradigm of vehicular technology
produces a new set of requirements,
around which a new vehicular exterior
form and language emerges. The
prototype’s distinctive silhouette is
an honest expression of an exterior
geometry that allows the sensors to see
every inch of pavement surrounding its
bumpers, and up to two football fields
ahead, detecting objects well before a
human driver could.
The prototype does not look like a
normal car, and it is not used like one
either. Its simple and elegant form
embodies this new technology in a
way that is friendly and approachable.
The interior experience is completely
re-examined. The design is optimised
for passengers and pedestrians, and
not for the driver. When no one is
driving, there is no need for a steering
wheel or pedals. The cabin is entirely
symmetrical, spacious, and illuminated
by panoramic windows that draw the
passengers’ attention to the outside
world.
DCA is a multidisciplinary
product design and development
consultancy based in Warwick,
UK, who works across four key
sectors – consumer, medical,
industrial-commercial and
transportation. Its team of
talented designers, engineers,
researchers and visualisers help
improve the success of product
innovation through an intelligent
design approach based on
informed decision making, true
integration of disciplines and a
rigorous development process.
Since 1960, DCA has helped
other companies design, develop
and deliver the products and
experiences people value every
day. Today, DCA is a vibrant
fusion of over 125 extraordinary
individuals, each with a worldclass knowledge of their
respective discipline. Helping
its clients achieve success
through great product design has
resulted in its standing as “the
UK’s number one product design
company” in the UK Design
Week Annual Top 100 Survey for
the last decade.
The design language aims to
differentiate Optic from the streamlined,
aggressive aesthetic of conventional
helmets. It integrates a retractable visor,
which once opened, creates visual
alignment with the cap and other details
on the helmet to visually reinforce the
functional aspects of the design. Optic is
the visionary approach to safe cycling.

The materials and colours used in the
vehicle are chosen to evoke a sense of
cleanliness, comfort, and functionality.
The exterior body is made from a
carbon fibre material that is lightweight
and strong. More importantly, safety
is a priority in the prototype’s design.
The entire front exterior of the vehicle
is designed for pedestrian safety and
comprises a soft foam that absorbs the
energy of an impact; the windshield is
made from a flexible polycarbonate to
prevent head injuries. Pedestrians are
alerted to the presence of the vehicle by
an intentionally audible whirring noise,
which propagates from the vehicle as it
drives.
Google Inc.
Larry Page and Sergey Brin founded
Google in September 1998. Since then,
the company has grown to include more
than 50,000 employees worldwide and
a wide range of popular products and
platforms such as Search, Maps, Ads,
Gmail, Android, Chrome, and YouTube.
In October 2015, Alphabet became the
parent holding company of Google.
The Google Self-Driving Car Project
is working to develop fully self-driving
vehicles that have the potential to make
roads safer and increase mobility for the
millions of people who cannot drive. The
ultimate goal is to help people get from
A to B at the push of a button. In the
project’s seven-year history, the vehicles
in the test fleet have self-driven over 1.7
million miles on public roads, and Google
has launched a testing program in
Mountain View, CA, Austin, TX, Kirkland,
WA and Phoenix, AZ.

There is no driveshaft in the centre of
the cabin floor, resulting in a low and flat
floor that produces a spacious interior.
Sitting in this vehicle is a uniquely
refreshing experience. The dashboard is
not populated with an instrument panel
or controls. Instead, it is positioned to
offer plenty of legroom. Embedded in the
dashboard is a large panoramic display
that communicates what the vehicle is
seeing, what it is surrounded by, and
how it is responding to objects, cars,
cyclists and pedestrians on the road.
This visual feature provides a comforting
assurance to passengers that the vehicle
can see and sense far ahead of the
passengers.

PAPIER - MACHINE is a book that comes
with 12 electronic toys made out of paper.
Each toy explains several electronic
principles.
PAPIER - MACHINE is a book collection
of twelve electronic toys made out of
paper – all meant to be cut, drawn,
folded, built and destroyed. Each toy
explains one or several electronic
principles. All the toys are working
prototypes. They are silkscreened on
paper with silver, carbon, cadmium and
thermo-chromic ink.
PAPIER - MACHINE is the result of an
impossible quest to make all the existing
electronics components out of paper
and specific inks. Its objective is to show
the chemical and physical principles of
electronic components as something
beyond “magical”. The five toys in the
book are:
9
16
1. Pinball for two players: The objective
is to make the opponent’s colour
disappear. Steel marbles are thrown
to close the correct circuit. When the
circuit is closed, the thermo-chromic
ink disappears. The game is over
when one of the colours has
completely disappeared.
4. A “toboggan” for steel marbles:
The silver printed circuit could be
augmented with the graphite from a
pencil. Each time the marble closes
the circuit by touching the hatches, a
sound is produced. The circuit is now
a partition, and the steel marble is a
reader head.
2. Playing a piano by blowing on it:
The speaker here is made with printed
silver conductive ink and a simple
magnet. Different shapes of resistant
ink create different sounds when
one blows on them.
5. Half bed-light, half hovercraft. The
vehicle lights switches on and moves
when the captor detects obscurity. The
light sensor on the surface of the object
is made with yellow cadmium ink.
3. Target working with papier mâché:
When moisture is detected on the whole
surface, the different thermo-chromatic
ink zones are switched on.

Web
www.berghoffworldwide.com
This cast iron cookware features high
heat-retaining abilities and thus is
suitable for both slow cooking and the
preparation of hearty stews in the oven
or on the stovetop. The cover locks
the moisture in and small bumps on the
interior direct evaporating juices back.
There is not much oil needed to cook
with this pan, making it ideal for low fat
frying and cooking. Large handles ensure
a safe grip, even with oven mitts or potholders.
Sowohl beim
Anbraten als auch beim Kochen wird nur
wenig Fett benötigt. Breite Griffe bieten
einen sicheren Halt, selbst bei der Verwen
dung mit Ofenhandschuhen oder Topf
lappen.
Statement by the jury

Natural structures
The Blue Lake House in Beijing was developed to spa
tially complement the restaurant of the same name.
Inspired by a philosophy of nature already successfully
implemented into the main building, this architecture
also realises the notion of complete embeddedness
into the surrounding. With the aim to provide a more
private, multifunctional space for dining, parties or
smallsized commercial activities, the Blue Lake House
features a 5.8metrehigh main room. Its outer ap
pearance is marked by a refined metal structure sup
porting both the roof and main body of the building.
Inspired by the surrounding environment, this struc
ture was designed in the shape of a tree crotch. This
impressive construction lends the space a flowing
organic appearance, making the roof virtually float
above the peripheral walls. The result of this concept
is that sunlight is allowed to pour freely into the inte
rior space, creating subtle interplays of light and shade
changing with the time of day and year. Supporting
this natural ambiance of the space, both the interior
and the exterior of the Blue Lake House were deco
rated using solid wood. In addition to that, leather
furniture, works of art and an ornamentation steeped
in history further evoke a warm feeling of being at
home. Gently protected by a quiet, natural and cul
tural space, guests can experience pure comfort and
relaxation.

In order to make the DU armchair as
ergonomic as possible, the contours of a
human body were measured precisely
using a 3D scanner. The readings served
as the basis for the chair design so that
the backrest, for example, curves to fit
one’s body snugly. This classic-looking
chair is made of walnut. The seat consists of a metal construction combined
with leather, a special stitching technique has been used to conceal the
seam. Legs and seat are screwed together to provide the necessary stability.
Statement by the jury
The DU armchair will satisfy even the
most demanding expectations people
may have of ergonomically well thoughtout design. Moreover, its elegant appearance impresses.

This lounge chair is a modern interpretation of the classic Scandinavian armchair, which used to be made by hand in

organic and natural forms. By using
computer-aided manufacturing processes, it has, however, been possible to
mass-produce even the more complex
parts of this lounge chair. In this respect,
the production of Neva Trimmed is a
balancing act between modern technology and artisanal craft.
Statement by the jury
Tradition and modernity are impressively
combined in the Neva Trimmed lounge

modern.

The Stir armchair is characterised by its
distinctly light and airy appearance.
Made of beech plywood, it has a curved
back covered with soft fabric upholstery.
Its special feature, however, is its base,
whose semi-circular lines reflect the
construction of the armrests. Inspired by
Okiagari Koboshi dolls, Stir is not firmly
anchored to the ground, but gently rocks
to and fro. The main focus of the design
thereby was on wellbeing.
Statement by the jury
The Stir armchair represents comfort
and relaxation. Its airy construction
lends it a playful ethereal quality.
sorgt.

The design of the Split lounge chair was
inspired by wood-forming technology
and its manifold ways of creating shapes.
The manually divided and formed solid
wood of the substructure offers stability
and strength. The upper, upholstered
part has a raised back to ensure the seat
is comfortable. It is made all the more
eye-catching by decorative stitching in
a dark contrast colour.
Die Inspirationsquelle für die Gestaltung
des Lounge-Sessels Split ist die Technologie
des Holzbiegens mit ihren vielfältigen
Möglichkeiten der Formgebung. Das manuell geteilte und gebogene Massivholz des
Unterbaus bietet Stabilität und Festigkeit.
Das obere, gepolsterte Teil ist mit einer
erhöhten Rückenlehne ausgestattet, was
Dessen Dominanz
wird durch die Ziernaht in einer dunklen
Kontrastfarbe noch betont.
Statement by the jury
The design of the Split lounge chair wins
people over with its craftsmanship. The
choice of a strong orange as colour turns
it into a noticeable item of furniture.
In
Anlehnung an eine Naturphilosophie, die bereits beim
Hauptgebäude umgesetzt wurde, verwirklicht seine
Architektur die Vorstellung einer nahtlosen Einbettung
in die Umgebung. Mit dem Ziel, einen mehr privaten,
multifunktionalen Ort für Dinner, Partys oder kleinere
Verkaufsveranstaltungen zu haben, bietet das Blue Lake
House einen 5,80 Meter hohen, offenen Raum. Dessen
Statement by the jury
The Blue Lake House merges the interior, the exterior
and the natural surroundings into a symbiotic unity.
Its convincingly simple principal structure was per
fectly realised. All details were honed to perfection
and give proof of sophistication in taste. The sur
roundings and the effect of light are integrated in an
exemplary manner. This project aimed at an atmo
spherically dense mood – which has been realised to
outstanding effect.
Begründung der Jury
Bei dem Blue Lake House gehen Interieur, Exterieur und
die natürliche Umgebung eine symbiotische Verbindung
ein. Die bestechend einfache Grundstruktur wurde
auf perfekte Weise realisiert. Alle Details sind präzise
ausgeführt und zeugen von einem hochentwickelten
Geschmack. Die Umgebung und die Wirkung des Lichts
werden vorbildlich integriert. Dieses Projekt zielte auf
eine atmosphärisch dichte Stimmung ab – dies wurde
exzellent umgesetzt.

TULIP Feuerring

Archaic sculpture
In many cultures, sitting at an open fire is still synonymous with an atmosphere that promotes conviviality. The TULIP Feuerring presents itself as a fascinating reinterpretation of an archaic fireplace. It is
made of untreated steel in the shape of a bowl with
an inner ring that serves as a grill. Adopting the appearance of a sculpture, it exudes both sturdiness and
a sense of tranquillity. The outer bowl is cold-formed
and allowed to rust so that it becomes characterised
with use over time, developing a particular appearance that further underlines the archaic appeal of the
bowl. Using a special welding technique, the grill ring
is connected seamlessly to the bowl. This prevents any
deformation due to temperature differences and guarantees perfect heat distribution. The intermediate
bottom presents a further innovation. It entails that
the fire is always set at a visible level and eliminates
the need to wait for the embers to glow. Instead, it
ensures slow indirect barbecuing with temperature
zones from 150 to 300 degrees, while still allowing
users to enjoy the look and warmth of a burning fire.
Based on a convincing symbiosis of form and material,
the TULIP Feuerring emerged with a design that is
functional as well as aesthetically pleasing, and creates a relaxing atmosphere of warmth and sociability.

Archaische Skulptur
Dies verhindert
Statement by the jury
The design of the TULIP Feuerring takes up the symbolism of archaic fireplaces in a fascinating manner.
It impresses with a compact and purist design idiom
matched with a high degree of user-friendliness. The
TULIP Feuerring is functional, durable and lends itself
ideally for use as a grill. It conveys a sense of homely
cosiness and possesses a high aesthetic quality that
underlines the appeal of its beautiful surfaces.

The F38 leather suitcase makes it possible to transport two suits, crease-free,
in your carry-on luggage. It is constructed in such a way that the two main
causes of creasing – compression and
too tight a radius – are eliminated. The
content of the suitcase can be accessed
from the top, which also makes it very
practical in use, e.g. as sponge bags can
quickly be taken out for airport security
checks. The F38 can be packed and unpacked like a hanging wardrobe or while
lying flat. It comes equipped with a pullout handle which includes a bag.

Mithilfe des Lederkoffers F38 lassen sich
zwei Anzüge knitterfrei im Handgepäck
transportieren.
So
integrierter Tasche ausgestattet.
Statement by the jury
The elegant yet functional design of the
F38 suitcase, which prevents clothes
from creasing during transport, turns it
into a very useful companion.

CleanSpace Ultra
Respirator
Atemschutzmaske
Manufacturer
PAFtec Australia Pty Ltd,
Sydney, Australia
In-house design
Alexander Virr
Form for safety
Respiratory masks are used in many industrial areas to
protect workers from inhaling harmful dust and gases
in the air. Respiratory contaminants are the leading
cause of long-term occupational health issues. The
CleanSpace Ultra was developed against the backdrop
that respiratory protection design has hardly changed
over the past 25 years. The aim was to combine the
convenience of a negative pressure mask with the
assured protection and comfort of a powered respirator. Weighing only 520 grams, this lightweight mask
was developed by biomedical engineers who have
miniaturised the core components to encase them in a
compact ergonomic device. Thanks to this efficient
design, the disadvantages of traditional respiratory
masks, such as bulkiness and the obstruction of
dangling hoses and belts, could be eliminated. Featuring an elegant design idiom, the CleanSpace Ultra
delivers very good on-demand airflow thanks to the
proprietary AirSensit system. The respiratory mask is
intuitive to wear and durable at low total operating
costs. It is thus especially suitable for high-volume
deployment and high adoption by work teams in large
industrial companies and in remote sites where close
training and technical support cannot always be ensured. Balancing functionality with highly advanced
ergonomics, the mask thus results in improved
respiratory protection – its distinctively elegant appearance yields a high level of acceptance and longterm compliance among workers.
Web

Statement by the jury
Fundamentally questioning the form and function of
a respiratory mask made the design of the CleanSpace
Ultra emerge with an entirely new construction
approach that combines many advantages. Its design
idiom impressively embodies design of the 21st
century. Equipped with the well thought-out AirSensit
system, the mask delivers the highest degree of
wearing comfort and ergonomics. This respiratory
mask sets new standards for the safety of its users.

The Monico office chair range was
designed as a flexible modular system,
combining a clear form language and
sophisticated functions for individual
sitting. The heart of the system is the
backrest with its Y-shaped brace and

yet with its curves and smooth transitions, is also highly aesthetic. All other
components such as the sitting mechanisms, armrests, seats and star bases
can be combined individually depending
on personal comfort requirements.

The dynamically designed Coza supports
a flexible work environment. It fulfils
the increasing demands on ergonomic
conference chairs and offers high comfort without the need for manual adjustment. Its visual impact is based on
a single line – an organic ribbon that
sweeps from under the seat and over
the arm and backrests. The result is a
slim, sophisticated form adapting to the
human body.
Ergebnis
ist eine schlanke, raffinierte Form, die sich
dem menschlichen Körper anpasst.
Statement by the jury
The design of the Anteo Alu is characterised by classic, elegant forms, satisfying
ergonomic demands.

Hammock / Kaldur
Bathtub and Mixer Tap

Sculpture for the senses
The origins of secular bathing culture can be traced
back to antiquity where it defined a vital aspect of
wellness in people’s lives. The design of the freestanding two-person Hammock bathtub stages bathing in
a comparable manner. Its well-balanced, sculptural design language emerges from the exterior, showcasing
clear lines of geometrically rectangular appeal, while
the smooth and almost organic-looking interior invites
users to enter and relax. Hammock is made from white
acrylic and generously sized with a length of 200 cm,
a width of 140 cm and a depth of 50 cm. Designed as
a duo bath, it offers enough space for two persons to
conveniently lie down side by side. Hammock is
equipped with a stop-and-go plug as well as an elongated, slender overflow that offer sophisticated functionality. The matched elegant Kaldur mixer tap also
stands out thanks to its gently curved form, symbiotically complementing the bathtub itself. Kaldur is
made from polished chrome and features a coloured
showerhead with soft-touch finish that attracts the
eye, rests well in the hand and is particularly pleasing
to the touch. The mixer tap thus emerges almost
like a freestanding high-rise next to the bath. In an
impressive manner, the design of this duo bath elevates the notion of wellness to the next level. The visually aesthetic play of water is skilfully reflected in the
use of premium-quality materials.

Materialien wider.
Statement by the jury
This two-person bathtub impresses with a strong
character and a clear design of purist appearance.
Overly well balanced and generously proportioned, it
unfolds a high sensuous appeal particularly when
freestanding. The soft surfaces and the distinctive design highlight of the matched mixer tap appeal to the
emotions of users. It is ideal for adults who rejoice in
a perfect space to relax, but also for playing children.
Begründung der Jury

“There is no quality without
a comparative view ” Vilim Vasata
Red Dot Design Yearbooks
are real-time chronicles of
the latest design developments in product design. As such, older editions are veritable showcases of design history and, in publication since 1991, span over more than two decades.
Observing product design over time is vital for anyone seeking to understand the nature of
design trends, e.g., product designers or purchasing managers from retail who are responsible
for developing, launching, marketing, and selling products. Design historians, university professors,
and libraries are also among the main target clientele in terms of collecting.
Our tip to design professionals: Start your collection of Red Dot Design Yearbooks now! And,
watch your collection grow, year by year, edition by edition. As chronicles of our time, the
yearbooks brim with documentation on the latest must-have and nice-to-have products. They
also serve as lifestyle guides and indispensable reference works.
Red Dot Design Concept Yearbook
and International Yearbook
Communication Design.
Design professionals not only need
to stay abreast of the latest trends in design, they also need to observe and examine
trends in a cross-inspirational context over time. Red Dot has been publishing its
International Yearbook Communication Design since 2006, and the Red Dot Design Concept
Yearbook since 2005. We encourage all design professionals, and especially those from
communication design, to engage in the rewarding experience of collecting the International
Yearbook Communication Design on an annual basis. Product designers, for their part, are
invited to “make a contract with the future” by collecting the Design Concept yearbooks,
which predict promising trends in product design. The idea is not simply to collect these
works for the sake of owning them, but to develop a culture of observing design over time
and on an ongoing basis.
Backlist Red Dot Edition www.red-dot-shop.com
In the following
pages, the Red Dot backlist is presented. Our main
publications are the yearbooks, which champion the world’s best achievements in design for a
given year. These are published for product design, communication design, and design concepts
respectively. In keeping with founder and CEO of Red Dot, Professor Dr Peter Zec’s belief
that “communication needs design,” each yearbook is a creative product in and of itself that
incorporates the design spirit of its time. The design catalogs are thus visually appealing,
not to mention fun! In addition to high-resolution photographs and sophisticated layout, they
also contain detailed product descriptions and interviews with acclaimed designers. With
our other books, Red Dot engages in contemporary discourse on design.
