This Bible Reading Plan has several special features for those who are just
beginning to read the Bible on a daily basis. The Bible is such a big book, with
66 different books written by several dozen authors, that many who begin reading the Bible in Gen 1 & proceed toward the end—soon find themselves lost in
a bewildering maze of complexity. The following reading plan helps overcome
these challenges by breaking the Bible into more manageable portions. This
need not take a lot of time each day. By following this plan, you will encounter
many of the most significant parts of the Bible in just 5-10 minutes a day over
the course of 12 months. We hope the simplicity of this year’s worth of Bible
readings will help you to establish a life long habit of daily feeding on God’s
Word. This plan includes many familiar passages as well as leading you to read
at least one chapter of every book in the Bible.
This “Bible Tour” will introduce you to about 25% of the chapters of the
Bible (about 300 of the Bible’s 1,189 chapters). These chapters have been selected because they are so central to the unfolding storyline of the Bible as a
whole. We have mixed up the readings between Old Testament and New Testament to help you sample both parts of the Bible throughout the year. All together these 300 chapters provide a good foundation for understanding the
overall Bible drama. We have given only 25 readings per month so that you
have the margin to occasionally miss a day or to reread a chapter you especially
liked. It is our hope that this reading plan energizes & equips you for a lifetime
of further reading & reflection on the whole of God’s Word. Some have suggested that these readings are like a brief tour through a great art museum. You
won’t see every painting in the museum, but you will learn the basic layout, and
may also acquire a taste for art that will entice you to return again and again. *
Daily Bible Reading Suggestions:
Pray: Ask God to speak to you through your reading of His Word. Be expectant that God will speak to you & shape your life by the Word.
Review the 4 key questions below and read each day’s Bible chapter with these
questions in mind. Reflect on your reading using the 4 questions as guides.

Question #2: What is one way that this passage leads you to worship God?
(can you identify this with a key verse(s)
Question #3: What is one way that this passage steps on your “toes”? [can
you identify this with a key verse(s)]
Question #4: What is one way this passage inspires or directs you to pray?
(pray accordingly!)
Remember: These readings are not items on a “to-do list” but are places where we are
seeking to see & savor God - & be transformed by His grace & glory!
