Galileo Galilei
Born in Pisa, Italy on February 15th, 1564.
Died in Florence, Italy on January 8th, 1640.
“Galileo, perhaps more than
any other single person,
was responsible for the birth
of modern science.”
-Stephen Hawking
Galileo made a lot of discoveries during his life time.
He discovered the phases of Venus and that the
Milkyway was a bundle of stars not just a nebulus.
Contrary to popular belief, the telescope was not
made by Galileo, the reason people assume it was is
because he used the telescope for a wide variety of
his discoveries.
There is a myth that Galileo went to jail for his beliefs
about the sun revolving around the earth; however,
he was just put under house arrest for a number of
years.
