Chinese New Year Expedition
Celebrate Chinese New Year..in China! This is an incredible opportunity for students to experience the colourful and charming
celebrations in the capital Beijing whilst enjoying their expedition. Taking time out from celebrations, students will trek along
different sections of the Great Wall of China during this adventurous expedition whilst learning about local Chinese culture and
traditions. Students will stay in Beijing, and explore sights of the Forbidden City and the Temple of Heaven. This is a raw
educational experience outside the four walls of the classroom that will leave students with lifelong memories and a true
appreciation and understanding of Chinese cultures and traditions.
Suggested Itinerary
Day 1 Beijing Arrival
Today the group will arrive in Beijing. We will transfer to
the hotel and rest. Depending on flight arrival the group
will receive a briefing with an introduction to China and
what they will be doing all week.
Day 2 Beijing
This morning after breakfast students will visit the Temple
of Heaven Park, where they will be able to observe various
traditional activities in action, from Taiji, to ribbon dancing,
a sword dance, and water calligraphy. Afterwards, the
group will visit the Temple of Heaven, the prayer palace for
good weather and bountiful harvests by the emperors of
the Ming and Qing dynasties. In the afternoon, we will
make our way into the center of Beijing – Tian’anmen
Square, and will walk to the Forbidden City. The Chinese
Imperial Palace has a history of almost five hundred years,
located in the middle of Beijing city. It is said to be the
world largest existing palace complex with 9999.5 rooms.
While walking in the city, students will have the
opportunity to retrace the steps of Chinese history from
the Ming Dynasty to the end of the Qing Dynasty. Exploring
Beijing, the team will take in the celebrations of the New
Year all around them.
Day 3 Climbing Adventure Day
The team will enjoy a hearty breakfast this morning,
preparing them for their adventures ahead at the climbing
wall! Either indoor climbing or ice climbing (dependent on
weather) the team will navigate their way up the wall,
working together to motivate each other and look out for
the best routes. A fantastic team building adventurous
activity, which will get the team reaching new great
heights! If we have time, in the afternoon we’ll visit the
Summer Palace, and study a masterpiece of imperial
landscape design.
Day 4 Huanghuacheng Great Wall
Today the group will begin their exploration of the Great
Wall. Huanghuacheng Great Wall, means “Yellow Flower”,
which is known as the only Great Wall section that is
submerged in water. We will hike along the west wing of
Huanghuacheng. Today will provide students with a great
introduction to the wall and its history as local guides

Day 5 Mutianyu Great Wall
After breakfast, today we’ll explore Mutianyu Great Wall,
which was built and restored in the early Ming Dynasty
(1368 – 1644), on the remnants of a Wall originally built
in the Northern Qi Dynasty (550-577). The trail is a mixture
of rock steps, filled with bushes in some sections. Upon
arriving at Mutianyu Great Wall, students will find a very
different section that has been restored and renovated.
Staying in the local community in the evening, students
will enjoy learning about Chinese cultures and traditions.
Day 6 Jinshanling Great Wall
Based on huge stone bars, Jinshanling Wall was then
made by huge bricks, each of which weighed about 12
kilograms (26 pounds). It has five main passes and 67
watchtowers. Every 100 meters (328 feet), there is an
enemy tower each of which is about ten meters (33 feet)
high. Students will learn about the history of the wall whilst
walking along it, giving them an unforgettable experience.
The Jinshanling Great Wall is the best-preserved part of
the Great Wall with many original features and will mark
the end of the groups’ journey along the wall. In the
evening we will return to Beijing.
Day 7 Chinese New Year Temple Fairs
For their last day students will enjoy an incredibly unique
experience, visiting the Temple Fairs, a main attraction
during Chinese New Year. Full of colour, dragons, lanterns
and celebrations, it’s a great way for the team to end their
time in China. Throughout the day, students will also visit
Lama Temple, the most important Tibetan Buddhist site in
Beijing. Late afternoon, the team will enjoy watching a
Kung fu Performance! The contemporary performance will
showcase mixtures of the old martial art form Kung Fu,
acrobatics and modern dance.
Day 8 Depart Beijing
After breakfast, the group will transfer to Beijing airport
and depart China.
