Should we get rid of exercise books and give every child a laptop

Should we get rid of exercise books and give every
child a laptop?
St Crispin’s school has been in debate about whether to invest in some mini
personal computers for the school or keep exercise books and carry on printing
paper.
Some teachers expressed worry that it would cost too much the price would
be around ten pound a month to pay for a laptop. While others say that it
would help the environment as we would not be using as much paper.
To find some opinions we interviewed the heads of English and I.T.
The Exercise Book Argument
Mrs. Darke (Head of English) thinks that computers give us important skills
because technology in the outside world because technology is advancing
quickly all round the world. Mrs. Darke believes we need to learn these skills
while were in school. But Mrs. Darke thinks that using literacy books to write in
give us unique skills that will help us in the future such skills would be need to
use programs such as word on the computer.
The Laptop Argument
Mr. Elwood (head of I.T) thinks that students having a pc is a good idea
because it will allow students to use a pc when needed instead of the teachers
booking the laptops. Mr. Elward thinks this will help in every subject and that it
will allow teachers to send messages to students by email. A pc could also
replace a planner as a self organizer. The only disadvantages to be seen are if
the system can cope with so many computers.
(The standard laptop)
After researching up on a discussion over 50% of students supported Mr
Elward’s idea however one student raised some points: What if...
You can't pay the money and loose the laptop.
It breaks
Do you have to charge it up as they don't seem to last long on their own
battery?
Someone gets on it and deletes everything.
You would have to carry it around with you.
To get internet wouldn't you need a wireless router thing.
Wouldn’t people disrespect them and play games in lessons and things
like that.
The students mostly seem to swarm to Mr. Elwards argument but
Mrs. Darke is not relenting.
