Mark Maciel Story
Chapter Two
Serving A Different Master
His love for fighting was slowly
turning into a lust for blood
Mike and Chito were walking through the Neighborhood's
territory when one of the young gang members came out
and challenged Chito to settle an old score. Chito accepted
and the fight began. Neto, the gang member, was clearly
the winner, but he wouldn't stop fighting. Out of friendship,
Mike stepped in.
"Hey, man," Mike roared, "Chito's had enough.
You've beat him; let him go!"
"No way," Neto snarled, "I'm gonna beat him
some more."
"If you have to keep fighting," Mike growled, "you
can fight me."
"No!" Neto retorted. "You're a Maciel and I'm not
gonna fight you. What do I want to fight you for? I'm
not that crazy!"
"Then stop beating on Chito," Mike snapped, "or
I'm jumping in."
"No! No!" Neto yelled, and one of the other gang
members ran across the street to Neto's house. In
less than a minute, Neto's father, George, emerged and
demanded,
"What's going on out here?"
"Aw, these punks won't stop fighting," Mike answered.
George said nothing more and went back inside.
Mike shrugged and turned his attention back to
Neto. Just then, the father returned with a very ugly
attitude and a knife to match.
"Now, tell me again what's going on!" Mike pointed
at the son and started to explain. George didn't
even pause to listen. He lunged right at Mike and
stabbed him in the arm. Mike yelled, "Hey, man,
what are you doing?"
Leaning back, the older man sliced Mike's arm
open and then stabbed him in the chest…….pg.46

Chapter Two
Serving A Different Master
His love for fighting was slowly
turning into a lust for blood
"But you need Christ in your life," Frank insisted. "Your
brother has accepted Jesus and you can see how it's
changed his life. Can I just pray for you?"
"Hey, if that's what you want to do, go ahead."
Grabbing Mark's hands, Frank bowed his head and
began to pray. It was a long and detailed prayer. They
were standing out on the street and Mark was embarrassed and fearful that someone might notice
what they were doing, but Frank seemed oblivious
to everything but his prayer.
"Are you almost finished?" Mark whispered. It didn't
even slow him down, so Mark added, "Hey, I gotta go."
This produced the desired result. Aſter saying, "Amen,"
Frank asked, "Do you mind if I keep you in my prayers?"
"Man, you do whatever you want to do," Mark
answered hurriedly. "I'm just gonna get away from
you." Pushing past Frank, Mark's thoughts and feelings
were mixed. I never want to run across that guy
again. He's nuts! He and Chops can pray all they want
and if God wants to do things for me, that's fine, but
He knows I don't need His help. What can God do for me
that I can't do for myself?.........Pg. 56
Dear God,
Chapter Six
A Time For Thinking
Mark discovers something he didn’t expect in prison.
Something was happening deep down inside
Mark. His eyes began to water. He really didn’t
know what to do, but he had a gut feeling that kept
him on his feet. He didn’t want the homeboys to
think he’d gone soft and weak, so he turned his face
away from them to hide the tears that were streaming
down his cheeks.“Now I want you to walk down here to the
altar.”
This dude has made a dope fiend move on me.
He’s done me wrong. He’s just getting even for all
the jazz I’ve given him by laughing at his preaching
and disrupting his services. As these thoughts raced
through Mark’s mind, his tears kept flowing and
that one question pushed aside all other thoughts.
Are you tired of being tired?
“Come to the Lord. Don’t keep Him waiting.”
Mark started toward the altar. His homeboys
were now yelling, “Get back here! Don’t be a fool!”
As he continued forward, Izzy Palma stepped out
from behind the altar, put his arm around Mark’s
shoulder, and started praying. As they prayed together,
Mark was no longer ashamed of his tears.
Jesus entered his heart and a feeling of great peace
engulfed him…….pg.106,107
I come to you in the name of Jesus. I
acknowledge to You that I am a sinner, and I am sorry
for my sins and the life that I have lived; I need your
forgiveness. I believe that your only begotten Son Jesus
Christ shed His precious blood on the cross at Calvary
and died for my sins, and I am now willing to turn from
my sin. You said in Your Holy Word, Romans 10:9 that if
we confess the Lord our God and believe in our hearts
that God raised Jesus from the dead, we shall be saved.
Right now I confess Jesus as the Lord of my life. With
my heart, I believe that God raised Jesus from the dead.
Please Lord Jesus transform my life so that I may bring
glory and honor to you alone. Thank you Jesus for dying
for me and giving me eternal life.
Amen.
