this is an Irish dance
Fri 17th February | 8pm
Tickets €20/€16
Jean Butler’s new show, this is
an Irish dance, created and performed with Belfast-based cellist and
composer Neil Martin, is inspired by the interdependent relationship between
traditional music and dance and the formal spatial relationship between
dancer and musician that characterizes her tradition. The movement and
music, created simultaneously through improvisation, raises questions about
who is leading and who is following. this is an Irish dance explores the
often-invisible interplay between dancer and musician in live performance
revealing a dialogue between body and instrument, cello and cellist, cellist
and dancer, and ultimately a man and woman. Originally commissioned by
Project Arts Centre, Danspace Project and Irish Arts Center.

Tickets €16/€14
A dance theatre performance inspired by memories of a hidden
cove on the Donegal coast. Directed by Steve Batts.
The Cove is a performance about the natural world, and the place of
people in it. It reflects on the experience of the beauty of the wild Irish
coast and its embodiment in movement. The Cove is created around and

reflect the light, like the surface of the sea or the shiny rocks. Through
this environment a woman travels. She climbs, sits, contemplates and is
enfolded by the spirit of the place.

Welcome to Belltable’s
Spring 2017 Season
After our Bualadh Bos Children’s Festival
last October, you told us you’d like to
see more family events in Belltable.
We are pleased to present a season of
Family Saturdays, starting in January
with Miriam Lambert’s enchanting The
Three Little Pigs and ‘make your
own puppet’ workshop. In February
we will be creating characters and
writing stories with Niall Cleary and Javi
Gimenez in their Scríobh workshop.
Stephen Spielberg’s The Adventures
of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn
will screen in March and we’ll welcome
back award-winning cartoonist Fintan
Taite to doodle, draw and help children
create their own comic books. In April,
The Whistleblast Quartet will take us
onto a musical storytelling journey in
Snow White and the Seven Short
Stories, followed by a music workshop.
And in May, Lyngo Theatre will tell
the story of the boy whose nose grew
long, The Curious Adventures of
Pinocchio. We hope this programme
will delight adults and children alike.
If you want to be moved this Spring,
come see CallBack Theatre’s Fred and
Alice or Canadian writer performer
Rebecca Perry in her Adventures of a
Redheaded Coffeeshop Girl. If you
want to see local talent, Liam O’Brien
will take to the stage in his version of
Eric Bogosian’s monologue Drinking
in America, Emma Fisher’s new work
Pupa will explore the (dis)abled body
through a range of mediums and Torch
Players will bring Bookworms to the
stage.
We are particularly pleased to be
bringing renowned international
artists to Limerick this season. I loved
Théâtre de la Pire Espèce’s version of
Alfred Jarry’s Ubu Roi when I saw it
in Edinburgh and hope that you will
enjoy it, too. Ubu on the Table will be
an Irish premiere and contains strong
language and puppet scenes of adult
nature! Tim Crouch starts his Irish tour
here in Belltable and is incredible in
I, Malvolio, a performance not to be
missed.
This is just a small snippet of what is
going on in Belltable this season. We
hope you will enjoy.

I, Malvolio
Thu 27th April | 7pm (Families)
Fri 28th April | 9.30am & 12.30pm (Schools)
Tickets €10
I, Malvolio is Twelfth Night told from the

loser’s perspective. It’s a show for anyone who
has ever been told off, called a name or has fallen in love with the wrong
person. Multi-award-winning playwright and performer Tim Crouch reimagines Twelfth Night in this, his brilliant one-man show. I, Malvolio
is a charged and often unsettling rant from a man ‘notoriously wronged’,
a man adrift in front of mocking spectators. Malvolio draws us into the
madness of Shakespeare’s play, makes it his own, and in doing so forces us
to confront our own cruelty.
‘…a downright joyous celebration of theatre.’ The Guardian HHHH
St. Saviours Drama Group presents

“The pathway to happiness does not always run smooth!” Side splittingly
funny, and marking a very special 10th production for St. Saviours, it is a
bold and brave move, writing, yet another brand new storyline with some
recognisable characters who pop in during the night!
