GRATITUDE REPORT 2016
FROM THE PRESIDENT
looking outward
Living in the tri-county area as spring begins
reminds me how pleasant life can be. At the United
Way of the Lewis and Clark Area, we know by pooling
our resources— both financial and personal—we can
make life more pleasant for everyone.
To better understand the current and evolving needs
of people in our community, I am proud to say that
the United Way board and staff are increasingly
looking outward. We are revamping traditional
activities like allocations to make them even more
responsive to the needs of our stakeholders from donors like you to our partners in
the nonprofit and for-profit community. Importantly, we are engaging in new
activities to make certain that we are connecting donor dollars with effective solutions
to community challenges.
This is a very exciting time to be involved with our local United Way. Staff and
volunteers are leading collaborative efforts that connect resources to health,
education, and prosperity needs in our community. Through this work, the United
Way and partner organizations are creating a thriving community for everyone.
Best Regards,
Mark Lancaster, Board President

FROM THE CEO
moving forward
& looking back
What a rewarding first year it’s been as the
CEO of the United Way of the Lewis and
Clark Area. I would like to sincerely thank the
dedicated team of staff, volunteers, and the
Board of Directors for all their support during
this transition.
This year, we achieved 98% of our 2015
campaign goal of $775,000, which was a
$25,000 increase from previous years.
We are energetically striving to raise $1 million in our tri-county area in
future years. We can and will help our community thrive!
Our future goals are ambitious and we are up to the task. With your
help and engagement, we know that together we’ll succeed.
As our supporters, I invite you to celebrate our work and share your
experiences with the United Way in order to connect more people to
our mission. There is a place for everyone in the community at the
United Way. We encourage everyone donate what they are able, to
volunteer their time and talents, and to share their voice by advocating
for causes that they believe in.
I believe in this organization. I am pleased with all that has been

Building a foundation By proudly leading the Early childhood coalition
When caregivers, social service providers, schools, government, and the whole community work together to ensure that all families have
the tools and knowledge needed to be healthy and happy, every child can be ready to thrive!
Here’s a glimpse of the ECC’s 2015
Distributed 2,000 books to pre-school
area children during the
Week of the Young Child.
Sponsored a screening of the film Paper Tigers
on Adverse Childhood Experiences, which over
600 community members attended. Since then,
momentum has grown on this issue, and we’re
committed to creating a connected community
that supports all of its members.
Launched the volunteer-led Reading in the Park
effort held in conjunction with the Summer
Feeding Program at Memorial Park.
Strenghtening social architecture by coordinating the helena resource advocates (HRA)
There are many people and organizations in the Helena area committed to improving the lives of our neighbors. HRA
encourages everyone to work together.
Explored ways to work together to improve:
-Affordable housing
- Transportation
- Food security
- Support for Service Members, Veterans,
and their Families
- Economic justice
In 2015, HRA....
Coordinated the Annual U.S. Dept.
Housing and Urban Development’s
Point-in-Time homeless survey
to gain a better understanding of
homelessness in our communities
and what we can do to help people
experiencing homelessness.
Made access to services more efficient for people who
need them. We updated and distributed 5,000 resource
cards. Three other groups were inspired to make cards
for their own causes!
The best part?
people have a renewed
enthusiasim and see potential for HRA
to solve community problems!
Through Communtiy impact, We’re Creating conditions where everyone can thrive!
Financial independence matters!
We support free tax help because it helps people build their financial stability and get ahead.
3 dozen volunteers = 1,000 state and federal tax returns filed + $1 million in refunds into our community!
Everyone has something to give back by volunteering.
360 new community members registered on www.volunteerhelena.org. That’s 1 person x day!
