Community Education Classes
Spring and Summer 2012
All classes are held on the Crowder College campus or in the Neosho area. Register for classes by completing the
registration form on the reverse side of this flyer. You will receive confirmation of enrollment and class location
approximately one week prior to the class start date. You may also cancel with a full refund up to one week prior to the

CLAY SCULPTING
Create life-like sculptures using a unique sculpting clay. During the class, each student will sculpt a beautiful rose. This is
an exciting class for parents and kids to take together!
Class Meets: Thursday - April 19; 5:30 – 8:00 pm (limited to 10 students)
Location: Crowder College Art Department – Newton Hall (Room 100)
Cost: $30 (includes materials)
CAKE DECORATING
Why pay more when you can do it yourself and have fun at the same time? Students will learn techniques for smoothing
frosting, making flowers and borders, and decorating unique cakes for all occasions.
Class Meets: Mondays (6 sessions) - April 16 - May 21; 6:30 – 8:30 pm each week
Location: Crowder College (classroom to be announced)
Required Supplies: One undecorated cake brought to class each week

COIN COLLECTING FOR FUN AND PROFIT
A class for beginners of all ages, coin collecting is a great hobby for parents and children. Topics include: 1) how to begin
collecting by type, year, and mint; 2) determining value based upon scarcity, condition, demand, type of metal; 3)
collecting for profit-the best strategies.
Class Meets: Tuesday – May 22; 6:30 – 8:30 pm

BASIC DSLR CAMERA OPERATION
This is a basic DSLR camera class in which you will learn about all of the different settings on your camera. The class will
concentrate on the manual settings rather than relying on automatic settings. By the end of the class you should be able
to go into any situation and set your camera manually to capture the best images for current conditions. My goal is to have
you capturing the moments as you imagine them, without disappointment.

Required Supplies: Basic DSLR (Digital Single-Lens Reflex) Camera with manual settings

PHOTOSHOP 101
This class is a basic overview of Photoshop and will only cover a small amount of its capabilities. The assignments will be
student directed, meaning that you will get to decide some of what will be covered in the class. So come prepared with a
list of the things you want to be able to accomplish with Photoshop.
Class Meets: Mondays & Wednesdays July 9 – August 15 (12 total sessions); 6:30 – 8:00 pm

INTRO TO THE iPAD
This class a basic iPad class where you will learn about the functional operations of the device. We will focus on
understanding the various device settings, installing and using the native iOS application, as well as web-based
applications, utilizing the built-in Safari browser, and briefly touching on device security and the benefits and drawbacks of
jail-breaking the device.
Class Meets: Mondays & Wednesdays, April 16 - May 9 (8 total sessions); 6:30-7:30 pm

Cost: $50
INTRODUCTION TO FUSED GLASS
Topics include glass handling safety, plus the basics of fusing and design. Students will complete 3 to 4 projects such as
jewelry, bowls, and picture frames.
Class Meets: Tuesdays & Thursdays, April 17 - 26 (4 total sessions); 6:00-8:00 pm (limited to 6 students)
Location: Henton Studio, Neosho
Cost: $40 (additional cost for materials purchased at the studio range from $20-50)
TAI CHI
Tai Chi is a healing/martial art form that combines movements with breathing, stretching and circulation. Overall purpose
of this class is to promote health and a sense of well-being, as well as to clear and relax the mind.
Class Meets: Monday, April 16-June 4 (8 total sessions); 7:00 - 8:30 pm
Location: Crowder College (classroom to be announced)

BASIC MOTORCYCLE BEGINNER COURSE
The Basic Rider Course is designed to provide a foundation of knowledge and skills for people who have never ridden, as
well as those who have ridden up to 10,000 miles. Motorcycles and helmets are provided. The BRC course can be taken
in lieu of the range-riding portion of the Department of Revenue license examination. Those who successfully complete
the course will be issued a completion card from the Motorcycle Safety Foundation, which is recognized by many
insurance companies for premium discounts. The course fee is $200.
Class hours are from 6:00–9:00 pm on Friday and 8:00 am–5:00 pm on Saturday and Sunday. To enroll for the Beginning
