Mr Parsons from the Trussell Trust gave an excellent talk about ’sharing’ and received food the school had collected. Pupils took part in the annual conker competition, using the abundance of conkers which fell from Appleford’s Horse Chestnut trees. Peter and Elliott take aim! S CHOOL D IARIES J USTIN A LLEN S KI A WARD New bespoke school diaries for pupils, full of useful information and to keep organised. In September Justin passed a ski assessment and was admitted as a member of Ski Milton Keynes (SMK) Race Team. He had to undertake a timed slalom run and demonstrated his ability to spin 360 degrees clockwise, and anticlockwise. C ONSTANCA S WIMMING Constanca is a member of the Salisbury Stingrays swimming club and recently won 6 gold and 3 silver medals. P ARENTS ’ R ECEPTION Parents enjoyed another wonderful evening of fine dining at Appleford. Guests arrived in their finery to an excellent meal (prepared by our catering team) in the school dining hall, which had been transformed for the event. David, Yr 11 pupil, entertained guests by playing his violin. Leah Beasley, Yr 10, made the delicious deserts for 60 guests. The Friends of Appleford held a raffle and played a ’heads and tails’ game, which raised a wonderful £512.92 for the school. P AGE 3 . N EWSLETTER A UTUMN 2016 N ATIONAL D YSLEXIA F OOTBALL C OMPETITION C HILDREN IN N EED Under 13 boys took part in their first tournament of the season at the National Dyslexia Football competition, finishing in third place overall.An excellent performance from all involved, showing great team work, spirit and determination. Mark Cousens and Stanley Kynaston-Stear decided to raise money for Children in Need by having a cake sale at school. They raised £60.00 Sunday 13th November saw the Appleford Scouts parade in Shrewton for the first time as part of the village Remembrance parade and service. Seven Scouts represented the Troop and were a credit to themselves, the Scouts and the school, we were very proud to be marching alongside them. We also had the added excitement of parading with our brand new Troop flag which arrived that morning. Huge thanks to those that joined us and we hope that the rest of the Scouts that may have been parading elsewhere had a lovely morning too. Photos of Harry winning the Junior Fiesta Championship at Brands Hatch. He has also won the Rooky Cup and is the youngest person to win the Junior Championship 14—17 year olds (Harry is 14). Harry did a radio interview and was also in Autosport magazine. H ARRY W INS A GAIN APPLEFORD SCOUTS H EADMASTER ’ S T EA P ARTY O F M ICE AND M EN Year 10 pupils bringing John Steinbeck’s characters to life, encouraged all students to learn in a different manner. Pupils invited to have afternoon tea with Headmaster, Mr King, in recognition of their having been great ambassadors for Appleford. To support their cross curricular work, year 10 drama students performed section of their GCSE literature piece to their English lesson classmates, making the learning process interactive and a whole lot of fun.
