“And God said, ‘Look! I have given you the seed-bearing plants throughout the earth and all the fruit trees for your food. And I have given all the grasses and other green plants to the animals and birds for their food.’ ” Grain was an important staple in the diets of those who lived in Biblical times. It stored better than vegetables, milk or meat and could be made into bread. Grain was so valuable that it often could be used as money. You should eat about 6 ounces of grain a day. One ounce is approximately one slice of bread. “When Jacob heard that there was grain available in Egypt, he said to his sons, ‘Why are you standing around looking at one another? I have heard there is grain in Egypt. Go down and buy some for us before we all starve to death.’ ” Genesis 42:1-2 Genesis 1:29-30 Here God refers to some of the healthiest food he made for humans. All of the fruits and vegetables you eat are considered “seed-bearing.” You should eat about 4½ cups of fruits and vegetables every day.
