Literacy: Science: Mathematics: We will use a variety of different stimulus Children will show that sounds are made when objects vibrate and that sounds travel through solids, liquids and gases. Children investigate how well sound travels through different materials and discover how instruments make sounds. Children will follow the new National Curriculum and learn about place value, addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, time, 2d and 3d shapes and statistics. throughout the term to engage and inspire the children’s writing. Children will begin by looking at Romans on the Rampage linked to our Roman theme, to enhance cross curricular writing. Children will also cover a range of writing genres such as: fables, instructions and explanations, poetry, stories, and information texts; Children will also focus on Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar. Art and D&T: Children study Roman mosaics, understanding why, when and how the Romans created these and their significance in Roman society. Using stick-printing techniques, children create their own mosaic pictures. Children research to inform the design of a chariot that is fit for purpose. Children construct and draw simple circuits. They find which materials are the best electrical conductors and use this information to make switches, Children wire plugs and find what happens to a bulb’s brightness when circuits are changed. Lower Key Stage 2 What Did the Romans Ever Do For Us? Children will also focus on the importance of Mental Maths. PHSE: Children will develop their knowledge, skills and understanding of empathy, social skills and selfawareness. Also, they will learn about British Values and how these are represented in our school. Geography: Children will locate countries, using maps to focus on Roman settlements in Europe. They will understand key RE: aspects of human geography To launch our topic all the children in Lower Key Children will pose the question ‘How should we live Stage 2 will take part in a variety of Roman our lives?’ focusing on how they live their lives related activities and will dress as Romans. including types of Roman settlement and land use. and role models in the Christian faith.
