First off, I would like to thank families for the great conversations administration has had when we have
called home in regards to unexcused absences early in the semester. It also helped us adjust student
schedules. We believe it has made students more accountable for their attendance throughout this
semester. I hope you have also found it helpful.
As administration begins to plan for our next school year, you may have heard we will be making some
changes to our daily schedule. It is true, we will once again have a formal lunch break. We believe this will
better support many activates that build school culture. We are hoping that students will have the
opportunity to get together with friends to enjoy lunch. As well, the lunch break will create focused time for
university presentations and student spirit activities such as the blood drive. We are also hoping that more
of our past clubs and activities for our students will return.
If you would like to participate in a more formal discussion regarding next year’s schedule and bell times,
please join us at the next School Council meeting. The April meeting will be held Tuesday, April 5 at
7:00 PM in the LCI Learning Commons (formerly known as the library).
Parents of grade 12 students, please be sure to frequently check our LCI website for the most up-to-date
information regarding graduation. LCI’s graduation is slated for Saturday, May 28. The date is fast
approaching!

FINE ARTS
The Visual Arts LCI Art Department is off to a great start this semester!
This semester we are looking forward to the Summer Dance Show "Somnium - Book of Dreams: in which
Art 10 will have art work displayed on the theme of Surrealism and Metamorphosis. The show will be
running May 5th and 6th.
We are also looking forward to the Lethbridge Student Art Exhibit "Art's Alive and Well in the Schools." The
exhibit run by the Southern Alberta Art Gallery will be running May 1st - June 12th, 2016. There will be an
opening ceremony for students on Sunday, May 1st at 1PM at the SAAG, 601 - 3rd Avenue South. There
will be a brief program and awards presentation. Eighteen works from students at LCI will be showcased.
If you have any buttons, fabric, etc. please consider sending them with your student to school and donating
them your household recycles plastic containers (yogurt, cottage cheese, ice cream, etc.) ribbons, to the art
room. It would be greatly appreciated!
Do you have fabric, notions, yarn, beads and other craft project materials that you no longer use or want?
The Fashion Studies program welcomes all donated fabric and notions. Students always make good use of
donated materials. There are many students for a variety of reasons that cannot purchase fabric or other
craft supplies, so donated items are really appreciated. You can drop off your donation in the office or we
can arrange for it to get picked up.

SPORTS
The LCI Curling Team 2016
Whether it’s watching a friend wipe out on the ice, or seeing someone (Mr. Fletcher) split their pants in the
hack… the Curling Club is fun times. For the fifth year in a row, LCI had the biggest team in the division
and introduced many students to this great sport. Two of our rinks: the men’s team (Aiden Whitmire, Noah
Tymko, Kaden Zmeko, Dawson Wikkerink, and Jackson Fletcher) and the women’s team (Holly Buckman,
Erin Collett, Hope Wauters, Dani Smienk, and Hannah von Chorus) progressed to Zones. Both teams did
very well, but lost the opportunity to play for the gold by a single rock. The men’s team finished with a
bronze medal.
In league play, three LCI teams tied for third place:
Game of Stones (Daegan Nickel, Sam Scott, and Sky Martinell)
Broom Goes the Dynamite! (Dawson Wikkerink, Jackson Fletcher, Kaden Zmeko, and Jacob Perry)
Dwayne the Rock Johnson (Ayden Whitmire, Noah Tymko, and Andrew Gemmill)
Congratulations on a fun and successful season curlers! Thank you for being such an amazing group to
work with.
LCI’s Curling Team includes:
Julia Perry, Erin Collett, Hope Wauters, Danielle Smienk, Kaden Zmeko, Jackson Fletcher, Jacob Perry,
Dawon Wikkerink, Holly Buckman, Ariel Lizette, Hannah van Chorus, Aiden Whitmire, Noah Tymko, Andrew
Gemmill, Kyle Gurr, Sam Scott, Skylar Martinell, Daegan Nickel. Coach: Dave Fletcher.
Assistant Coaches:
Corey Anderson and Ryan Henderson.
LCI Wrestling 2016
This year’s team consisted of 4 juniors and 3 High School Wrestlers. Maren Evanson, Jane Thomson,
Arora Weaver, Callum Hyland, Justin Bly, Felix Rashleigh, and Austin Logue.
They hosted the Green & Gold Tournament in December and also travelled to the U of A, Wetaskiwin, Sir
Winston Churchill and Bishop O’Byrne for Tournaments this year. All 3 of the High School Wrestlers
(Justin, Felix and Austin) placed in the top 5 at Rurals and qualified for Provincials. Austin Logue won Gold
at Provincials for the second consecutive year.
Grade 9 Boys Basketball
This year’s Grade 9 Rams had a fantastic season led by a strong group of players. There were few teams
that could keep up with their exhausting fast break, relentless guard defense, and powerful forwards. At the
end of January the Rams travelled to Kelowna for the Dr. Knox invitational tournament. LCI punished their
first 3 opponents, including a provincially ranked team from Abbotsford. Back home in Southern Alberta,
they took home the city championships before falling in a thrilling 4J zone final in front of a packed house in
our own gym. These boys made the entire LCI nation proud!
Grade 9 Girls Basketball
This year the grade 9 girls had a very successful season that ended the season with a perfect 25-0 record.
Highlights of their season include winning our home tournament, the Dr. Knox tournament in Kelowna, the
city championships and LCI’s first ever 4J zone championship where they beat Magrath 77-51, in the zone
championship final. This was a determined team whose strength comes from working together. They loved
playing bigger and stronger teams as this forced them to play their best games.
LCI Rams Junior Boys Basketball Team 2016
This year’s edition of the Junior Varsity Rams have had an exceptional season. By following the principles
of hard work and team play, they were able to take first place in 5 tournaments; Taber, Coalhurst, REB
(Jasper Place), Winston Churchill and Bert Church. They also finished the regular season as league
champions and completed their amazing run with a resounding victory over Cardston in the JV Playoffs. It
was an exciting season and we could not be more proud of these boys!
LCI Clippers Junior Girls Basketball Team 2016
The LCI JV Girls Basketball Team had a great season in a competitive JV league, finishing the season 5-4
in regular season play. The girls faced a tough playoff matchup facing Raymond, and despite a valiant
second half effort, were unable to make it past the Comets. Highlights of the season include placing 3rd in
the REB tournament in Edmonton and scoring 100 points against Bert Church. Congratulations on a great
season girls!
LCI Rams Senior Boys Basketball Team 2016
This year’s LCI Rams Senior Boys Basketball Team has had a great season to date. We placed a very
close second in the Magrath Tournament, 3rd in the Raymond Sugar Bowl Tournament, 2nd in our LCI Green
& Gold Tournament, and 1st in the Western Canada RIT Tournament. In League play we finished up in 3rd
place having only lost 1 more game than the Co-Champions Raymond & Cardston. Currently we are
ranking 5th in the Province of Alberta. The Rams finished 2nd at zones and advanced to Provincials in Red
Deer as the 4th overall seed in the tournament. After some strong performances and a heartbreaking loss in
the semi-finals, the Rams took home the Provincial Bronze Medal for the third time in the last four years.
LCI Clippers Senior Girls Baketball Team 2016
The Senior Clippers have had a very successful season with a solid mix of seniors, second year players and
some rookies. We began the season by surprising some of the top teams in the province and placing 2nd at
the prestigious Jasper Place tournament. We followed that up with a 2nd place finish in our own Green &
Gold Tournament, a 3rd place finish at Western Canada, and a 1st place finish at the Magrath tournament.
The Clippers entered zones as the #1 ranked team in the south zone after finishing the regular season first
overall in the league but fell in a thrilling zone final. They advanced to Provincials as the #6th ranked team in
the province and won their first round game but ultimately ended up tied for 7th place in the province. The
girls played very hard and can be proud of how they represented themselves and the school.

2017 LCI TRAVEL CLUB
Traveling to New Zealand, Australia and Fiji is a once in a life time dream for many people. LCI students

This is a fair that gets youth engaged in events, programs, and community. This helps youth find their own
path for their future.
On Tuesday, April 19th, 2016, several community coalitions, including CSART (Community Substance
Abuse Awareness Resource Team), ALERT (Assisted Learning Environment Response Team), CDAC
(Community DeveloPMental Assets Collaboration) will host an Ignite UR Spark Fair for youth between the
ages of 9 – 18 years of age. The goals of the fair are to open up the opportunities for youth to explore a
spark and to connect youth with an adult spark champion within the community. The spark champions will
help connect the youth to their shared spark, but also to others within the community who can help
strengthen that spark.
The event will be held at Exhibition Park (Main Pavilion) and will run from 11:00 AM – 4:00 PM. The spark
champion booths will be interactive and demonstrate the spark to the youth as well as help them make a
connection, e.g. provide information on resources, organizations and businesses within the community that
will support their spark.
What are Sparks?
Sparks are the interests that inspire, the activities that energize. Sparks are the special abilities uniquely
yours to tend, to grow, to share with the world. Your family, school, and community need your unique talent!
Find your Spark
What gets you going? What grabs you that pulls you so deep that when you re-surface you feel like you’re
back on earth again? That interest, that joy or activity is your Spark!
