and for these reasons we are proud to name Mollie Meckel as Team 3's student of the month.
Tyler Johnson
Our next student of the month has embraced and grown with the independence that he has found
here at middle school. He is curious and loves to learn. Consequently, he produces high quality
work where his personality shines through. He can be counted on to be a good friend and will help
out at a moment's notice. In his free time he enjoys reading and playing guitar. Team 3's Student of
the month is Tyler Johnson.

Clara exemplifies invaluable qualities such as responsibility, community mindedness, selfdiscipline, and warmth. She is a model student who expects great work from herself.
She shows a high level of engagement in lessons, as evidenced by her careful listening and attention
to detail in her assignments. She participates in community service on our team by writing thank
you notes to Veterans who've come in to speak and contributing ornaments to our tree for the
Festival of Trees. Clara is balanced, friendly, caring, and mature. She's got it all!!
Andrew Silsby
Andrew Silsby is a person who has high standards for himself as a student and as a human
being. He is widely known and appreciated as an incredibly polite and respectful young man. He
may not know it, but his consistently excellent manners impress teachers and classmates alike, and
make others feel appreciated. He is kind, positive, and a good friend, who balances athletics and
academics very well. In a world that is often in a rush, Andrew takes the time to say "thank you"
and look you in the eye. What a great addition he's been to our team.
Team 9: Inferno
Melanie Mowbray

others up. She is willing to invite others into her group, whether it be during class or outside of it.
She is a member of the Chamber Choir, Diversity Club, and helps with the Jimmy Fund. She has also
participated for 12 years in the Stepping Out Dance Academy. She is always polite and considerate
to teachers and peers, and she is extremely responsible. She has a wonderful sense of humor that
we are happy to see emerging. Team Inferno is thrilled to recognize Melanie Mowbray as Student of
the Month.
Carter Green
This student brings positive energy and enthusiasm into every class. He works extremely well in a
group or by himself, often taking on a leadership role. He is unfailingly willing to participate in class
and take academic risks. Several of his peers nominated him, saying, “He invites people to our lunch
table,” “He is respectful to teachers and is a kind and friendly person.” This student is involved in
many activities. He plays volleyball, is a member of the Diversity Club, and is active in the theater
department. For his respectful, kind, and giving nature, we are proud to recognize Carter Green as
Student of the Month.
Period 3: 9:10-10:00 AM
Air House: Teams 1,7,12
Team 1: Windstorm
Emily Tan
This month’s student of the month is a very thoughtful, kind person who is truly a “giver”. In her
elementary school, she was involved with “Soars”, a club which raises money for various causes
including support for homeless shelters and the SPCA. In fact, this student of the month twice won a
SOARS award for her active involvement in this club, based on this student’s positive attitude and
her genuine desire to want to help those in need. This year at CMS, this student of the month has
shown support for our troops by making holiday cards, goody bags, book marks and ornaments in
Mrs. Glennon’s room after school. This student is a very helpful person who will go out of her way
to be supportive of others’ needs. In her classes, this student consistently shows a genuine interest
in the topic being studied, and the quality of her assignments is reflective of the care and attention
that this student puts into her schoolwork. Outside of school, this student has been a part of the
Cross Country team, and has played soccer, which she now continues to do on an indoor league. In
her spare time, this student has a creative hobby in which she fashions jewelry and baskets out of
recyclable materials which she later gives to others as gifts. For all these reasons, team 1 is proud to
recognize Emily Tan as this month’s student of the month.
Ryan Veilleux
This month’s student of the month is someone who has demonstrated his commitment to
community service in a variety of ways. He participates in a neighborhood clean-up a few times
each year. He routinely donates clothes and toys to charities such as Goodwill Industries and has
participated in putting together Thanksgiving meal baskets for the community. In school, this
student comes to class prepared to learn. He has excellent learning habits. He is organized,
prepared, focused and motivated. He asks good questions, and promotes a positive learning
environment for all with his enthusiastic attitude. Special accomplishments include the Seahawk
Sports Camp Leadership Award, and achieving high honors throughout his 5th grade year. This
student of the month enjoys many sports including football, baseball, basketball, and golf. He also
enjoys reading. Despite keeping busy with these interests and schoolwork, this student routinely
helps out at home with various household chores such as taking out the trash and mowing the
lawn, no doubt with the same positive attitude that his teachers and classmates witness each day at
school! For all these reasons, team 1 is proud to recognize Ryan Veilleux as this month’s student of
the month.
Team 7: Tornado
Serina Danh
Not only has this student been recognized by her teachers, but she has also been recognized by
her peers as being a positive member of our school community. Her warm and bubbly
personality immediately makes those around her feel at ease and her willingness to help others
in need have endeared her to our team. This student has the knack to read people around her
and without realizing it has been able to help others to remain calm and refocus even when
they are feeling overwhelmed with what is going on in class. She works very hard in all that
she does and appreciates constructive comments that will help her improve whatever it is that
she is doing. When she is not busy working hard on her academics, she likes to spend some
free time drawing and singing. Team 7 is pleased to have Serina Danh as a member of our
community due to all of the wonderfully innate qualities that she brings to our team.
Xavier L’Italien
Students do not have to be loud and outgoing to be recognized. Often, it is the little things that are
more appreciated and with this student this is exactly the case. He is thoughtful, courteous and
polite. You can always expect a kind "goodbye" or "have a nice day" when he leaves class. He also is
a model student, working hard, asking questions and accepting feedback in a positive way. He is
open, accepting and is willing help the class in anyway. Team 7 is proud to announce Xavier
L’Italien as Student of the Month.
Team 12: Hurricane
Sam Hobson
This student is a cheerful, upbeat member of Team 12. She participates in class, makes an
effort to be friendly to all students, and has shown a willingness to extend herself on behalf of
her peers. She has dedicated significant effort to helping friends in need, both academically and
socially. Because of her efforts, fellow students have seen improvement in their grades and
skills. She is an excellent guide and role model for everyone on Team 12.
Dan Doucette
Our other Student of the Month is also known for his positive attitude and cheerful
demeanor. Over the past few weeks, we have noticed this young man has made an effort to
become a more conscientious student and classroom participant, winning his class spelling bee
and setting an example for diligence and effort. We are very proud of his efforts to be a good
pod citizen and a stalwart friend, and want him to keep up the good work.
Period 7: 12:30-1:20 PM
Water House: Teams 4,6,11
Team 4: Rip Tide
Shelagh Coombs
Our nominee for student of the month for January is a pleasant, polite young lady. She takes time
on her assignments and projects, putting great effort into everything she does. She smiles a lot and
her happiness spreads to others in our pod and throughout the school. She is bright and smart and
always willing to volunteer. She loves drawing and painting and she plays the violin and clarinet in
her free time. Our nominee showed her Irish dancing skills in our talent show and we were all very
impressed. Our nominee for student of the month is Shelagh Coombs.
Danilo Thurber
Our student of the month was a standout star in our Team Talent Show before Christmas. He plays
violin not only for his peers at school, but shares his talent by doing concerts at churches and
retirement homes. He enjoys fishing, waterskiing, sailing, and cooking. Although he appears quiet
and serious, he has a dry sense humor, and is not afraid to contribute in a meaningful way to class
discussions. He is well traveled, having recently returned from a visit to Serbia, adding to his
worldliness and cultural awareness. Despite this, he does not toot his own horn, but is a great
listener. Consequently, Team 4 is proud to announce Dacha Thurber as Student of the Month.
Team 6: Tidal Wave
Lilly Chase
This young lady is a mature and responsible citizen. She is prepared for class, kind to her peers and
is always on task. She is very talented in art and produces beautiful work. Her quiet and
unassuming ways do not keep her teachers from noticing her positive work ethic, and willingness
to help other students. She is the first person to clean up and sets a great example for the rest of the
team. Before she leaves class, she says "thank you" to her teachers and tells us to have a nice
day. She always goes beyond our expectations and she pushes herself to be successful. It is with
great pleasure that Team Tidal Wave recognizes Lily Chase as our student of the month.
Nicholas Vare
We have a young man on our team who has had a consistent positive attitude since the first day of
school. This student demonstrates the highest level of discipline both in and out of the
classroom. He is consistent with his quality of work and frequently asks pertinent questions to
clarify what he is learning. In math he is always eager to take on a challenging problem to
tackle. This young man also carries his talents to the mat as he continues to advance through the
belts in martial arts. It is with great pleasure that Team 6 nominates Nicky Vare for our student of
the month.
Team 11: Tsunami
Shea LeBlanc
This young lady is one of the most dependable students in our pod. Whenever one of her team
mates are absent, they are confident that they can come to her for help in getting caught up,
and she is always ready and willing to share her notes and help. When it comes to team events,
few have team spirit like her. This sense of being a team player is also evident outside the class,
whether in gymnastics or softball.
Other students have frequently remarked that she is one of the most approachable people
around our pod, always quick with a smile and something witty to cheer you up. With all of
these great qualities, she still doesn’t seek out attention or validation, but operates with an
unassuming and quiet sense of grace and leadership. That is why our first recipient is Shea
LeBlanc.
Bryan Hayward
This young man really shined as a leader recently in ways that have impressed us so
much. This leadership stems from his very strong sense of self and individuality, something
that is very hard to have at this age, where it is safer to just conform to the group. He is
unafraid to be inquisitive, reflective, and to advocate actively for his own learning.
A perfect example of this is the time when professional rappers, “Cap” and “DJ Jazzy Joyce”
came into English class to teach us the art of rap, everyone was terrified of sharing their
couplets in front of the class. Not this young man. He stood up, busted out some amazing
rhymes, and floored us all. Because of his willingness to take a safe social risk, he showed us
something awesome, which quickly motivated others to follow his lead.
It’s because of actions like this we recognize Bryan Hayward as our other student of the month.
Period 8: 1:20-2:10 PM
Earth House: Teams 2,8,10
Team 2: Sandstorm
Sarah Duffin
Our female student of the month for January is a very helpful young lady and a good problemsolver. When a serious problem of disappearing pencils arose in math class, she came up with a
solution and put the plan in place. She is a very good student who always shows respect to her
teachers and classmates. Her attitude makes her a joy to be around. She has accrued quite a few
hours of community service so far, which shows that she is a good citizen and role model for her
peers. Our January student of the month is Sarah Duffin.
Andrew Verge
Our male student of the month is always polite and pleasant. As one of his classmates who
nominated him for student of the month wrote, “he always plays fair.” He doesn’t draw attention to
himself, but we have noticed what a gentleman he is. This young man is a team player on the field
and in the pod. We have noticed that he is a very tolerant and kind partner when paired with other
students in the classroom. He has a great sense of humor and makes us all smile. Our January
student of the month is Andrew Verge.
Jackson Lang-Averill
We had no trouble figuring out which of our great boys is deserving of Student of the Month. Seven
students nominated this young man for his helpfulness and kindness. As one student said, “He is
wicked nice and he helps out in the classroom all the time.” Another student wrote, “He is never
mean.” Every student who nominated him mentioned how he is always so helpful. We have come
to the conclusion that this boy would give anyone the shirt off his back. One day, I observed him
handing his pencil over to a classmate who had come to class without one. I had to point out to him
that he would not have anything to write with himself. He reluctantly took the pencil back. We are
very happy to announce that Jackson Lang-Averill is our December Student of the Month.
Team 8: Landslide
Elle Wilson
Kaitlyn Cameron wrote, “She can keep her grades up while being committed to her Great Bay
Volleyball team. She also plays the violin, piano, and dances. She is an active participant in the
WWF Crew, a group of students on our team who plan and carry out fundraisers for the World Wild
Life Fund. She is a great friend who is always willing to lend a helping hand. One time, I needed
help with my math homework and she was right there. Another time, there wasn’t room at a lunch
table for me and a friend without thinking. She got up and sat with us.
Overall, this person is a great friend and student who deserves Student of the Month.
Elle has been playing the violin in orchestra for 2 years at CMS. She is a quiet, respectful student
who is always willing to model for those students around her who may be having difficulty with the
music. She is a leader in the violin section.
Congratulations go to Elle Wilson.

Team 10: Earthquake
Colleen White
This young lady was nominated by her peers because of her caring attitude. She is seen as "one of
the nicest people ever!" One friend reports that when she was new, this student went out of her
way to make her feel welcome. They have been friends ever since. Even though she keeps herself
busy with volunteer activities, dance, and music lessons, she consistently keeps up with her school
work. Her teachers couldn't agree more and are happy to nominate Colleen White as Student of the
Month!
Dalton Vega
This young man was easily nominated because he is one of the most polite, helpful students on the
team. He is a true silent leader who helps to keep other students on task. Even when he needed to
be out for a week, he came back with almost all of his work already done. He perseveres and will
not let outside challenges interfere with his goal of being an excellent student. His teachers are so
proud of him and happy to nominate Dalton Vega as Student of the Month!
