Stories from Downton Abbey’s
Yew Tree Farm
Cogges Manor Farm in Witney, Oxfordshire, is the stunning
location of Downton Abbey’s Yew Tree Farm.
It is a beautifully preserved collection of Cotswold stone farm
buildings set in its own historic grounds. Cogges will be familiar
to many as a popular location for TV and the big screen, with
shows from BBC’s Countryfile to ITV period dramas Downton
Abbey or Arthur & George.
Cogges offers visitors a unique chance to see where Downton
Abbey was filmed and hear stories from this internationally
acclaimed television series. Yew Tree Farm is home to the
Drewe family in series 4 & 5, where Lady Edith’s child is
brought up, and later in series 6, home to Mr Mason. Dame
Maggie Smith and characters Tom Branson, Lady Edith and
Lady Mary featured in episodes filmed in the manor house
kitchen and farmyard.
Cogges has beautiful natural grounds and filming locations are
very close together, allowing you to make the most of your
visit and take in the homemade cakes and excellent teas and
coffees in the Cogges Kitchen.
There is a film in the manor house which charts the
transformation of Cogges into Downton Abbey’s Yew Tree
Farm, with interviews by the series Producer and Location
Manager. You can also view a collection of stills and behind
the scenes photos from the show as well as some interesting
Downton memorabilia, including Marigold’s birth certificate!
Services of a guide are available if required, giving detailed
tours about filming at Cogges and the history of the farmstead
for those families who lived and worked here.
Coach parking is an easy, short walk from the site.
The Cogges Kitchen café on site serves tea, coffee, light
lunches and homemade cakes and scones. Extra dedicated
seating is available for large groups. Free tea and coffee for
coach drivers.
The shop sells local food and craft, books, toys and souvenirs.
Toilets include disabled facilities. Cogges is a relatively flat
site; currently however, access to wheelchairs is limited in
the house. Please ask if you need more information or have
any questions.
