Areas

Key Messages
1. National standards are a must to ensure sustainable industrial
areas.
2. India went through a process and the “need” for standards is
getting stronger.
3. Standards must bring in multiple benefits – for industry,
environment, people.
4. Standards can be applied for existing and new industrial parks.
5. Necessary capacities are to be built – notification of standards,
certifying agencies, training of planners etc.
The Process Followed
□ Review of different Indian and international standards available.
□ Customisation after intensive stakeholder consultations.
□ Pilot testing in existing and new industrial areas.
□ A draft national standard is under development.
□ Targeted to be notified by the Bureau of Indian Standards.
□ Promotion targeted by the national and state ministries – example, grants from
national and state agencies (industry ministry), ease if regulations from
environment ministry.
The Process Followed
Learning processes exposure visits for
key stakeholders
Learning processes – training, workshops
Learning processes - conferences
