“Day of Choices” Sunday, August 30, 2009 On Sunday, August 30th you and your fellow new students, along with our Red Caps (the student orientation leaders) will have the opportunity to participate in one of the following activities (please note these activities are for University of Hartford freshman students only). Lake Compounce Theme Park – Whether it’s chills or thrills that make you happy, Lake Compounce has the best of both, and then some! Play all day on rides like Boulder Dash, Zoomerang, and Thunder n’ Lightning or chill near the lake in Anchor Bay, Clipper Cove, and Mammoth Falls! (Cost: $45. Fee includes admission and transportation.) Walt's Tour of Hartford - Did you know that much of Hartford’s early wealth came from making guns (the famous Colt 45) during the Civil War, or that it was the richest city in America 100 years ago, or that it is home to a two sided building, one of the architectural marvels of the 20th century? See those, plus a look at some of Hartford’s highlights as President Harrison leads a bus tour of the city. This tour has received glowing reviews from students and includes stops at the Wadsworth Atheneum Museum of Art and the Mark Twain House, home to the famous American writer. (Free. Lunch will be provided) Blue Man Group Boston – Blue Man Group performances feature three enigmatic bald and blue characters who take the audience through a multi-sensory experience that combines theatre, percussive music, art, science and vaudeville into a form of entertainment that is like nothing else. Get the opportunity to see the Blue Man Group at the Charles Street Theater in Boston. (Cost: $90. Fee includes admission and transportation.) Tubing - Cool down on a hot summer day as you float through the picturesque calm sections of the Farmington River and catch some sun, swim, and relax. (Cost: $35. Rapids such as Microwave, Freight Train, and Pinball allow crews to hone their skills in preparation for the raging whitewater of Zoar Gap. Below the Gap, you will pull over in a state forest for a delicious picnicstyle lunch with salads, homemade breads and cookies. After lunch there are opportunities to swim or simply relax as you raft back to basecamp. (Cost: $125. Fee includes transportation, bagel breakfast, and picnic lunch.)
