If you want to know which nationalities need a short stay visa enter on Visa Nationalities.
Warning! You can only apply within 3 months before of your departure date.
US citizens who wish to stay in Spain for tourist or business purposes for up to 90 days do not need a visa
without prejudice to meet the entry requirements specified by custom authorities.
To apply for a Short Stay/Schengen visa every applicant must appear in person. Applicants must have
permanent residency status in the USA (alien resident “Green Card” or US valid visa except B1/B2). The
request for a visa must be made at the Consulate of Spain which has jurisdiction where the applicant resides.
This Consulate General has jurisdiction over the following states: New York, New Jersey, Connecticut,
Pennsylvania and Delaware. The visa will be affixed to your passport, at this Consular Office, before your
departure and must be presented at the Schengen border officials at the port of entry. You can not request the
visa in Spain or through the mail.

WHAT IS A SCHENGEN VISA?
The Schengen Agreement establishes a unified type of visa for short stays (up to 90 days) for the
participant European countries: GERMANY, AUSTRIA, BELGIUM, DENMARK, SLOVAKIA, SLOVENIA,
SPAIN, ESTONIA, FINLAND, FRANCE, GREECE, HUNGARY, ICELAND, ITALY, LATVIA, LITHUANIA,
LUXEMBOURG, MALTA, NORWAY, NETHERLANDS, POLAND, PORTUGAL, CZECH REPUBLIC,
SWEDEN AND SWITZERLAND.
A Schengen Visa issued by an Embassy or Consulate of the aforementioned countries allows the holder to
travel freely in all these countries. It will be issued by the Embassy or Consulate of the country of your main
destination, the one where you will spend the longest period of time.
SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS
1. One Schengen application form duly filled out and signed.
2. Passport (original and photocopy) valid for a minimum of three months after the expected visa stay and
with at least two blank pages available.
3. One passport size photograph in color, 2 x 2 inches (51 x 51 mm) in size, printed on matte or glossy
photo quality paper, taken within the last 6 months to reflect your current appearance and in front of a plain
white or off-white background.
4. Alien residence card (Green Card) or residence visa valid in the US (except B1/B2). You need to bring
the original and photocopy.
5. Confirmed reservation of your airline ticket (round-trip). Just a flight reservation is required. It is highly
recommended not to confirm the reservation or buy the tickets until you get your visa.

6. A detailed hotel reservation or the original invitation letter from a family member or friend issued by the
"Policía Nacional" in Spain. If you are part of a tour or a cruise, include a letter from your travel agent
stating a complete itinerary of cities and hotels.
7. Proof of financial status, i.e. a major credit card along with the latest statement as well as your three last
bank statements with the balance information in dollars or euros.
8. Travel medical insurance document for Spain with a minimum coverage of €30,000 euros (or its
equivalent in USD) and "repatriation coverage". An insurance card will not be accepted as proof of
coverage.
9. For professional or business trips you must submit an invitation from a company or organization based
in Spain to participate in a meeting, convention, fair or congress, etc.
10. a. Letter from employer stating your job title, length of time employed and annual salary.
b. If you do not work and you are economically dependent, a notarized letter from the person you
economically depend on assuming full financial responsibility of your travel and stay, plus copy of the valid
passport and three last bank statements of that person.
c. If you are self-employed, a “Good Standing Certificate” issued by the Secretary of State or the license
of your business or company (business cards are not valid).
d. If you are student, a letter from your school or college.
*As an additional material in all cases, if necessary, any other proof of ties with the U.S.

12. When the applicant is under 18 years, a notarized authorization letter to apply for a visa from the
parents or custodians is required.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Most Short Stay/Schengen Visas are usually issued on the same day except when an additional
authorization is required or the system does not allow it. However, if you do not want to wait and pick up
your passport and visa, it is possible to apply for its delivery via UPS. In this case you need to provide a
prepaid return UPS label with the ZIP code included, attached to the rest of the documents.
We do not accept any envelope that is no prepaid or any other type of courier or messenger service.
Tracking of mailed items is the sole responsibility of the applicant.
