FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE CONTACT Pyrate MacDeath (aka William Unterborn) 131 W Main St Palmyra, NY 14522 Tel: 585-368-8081 Web: www.eriecanalpirates.com Email: [email protected] Your beds are made, ready to roll! Palmyra, NY – June 28, 2016 Historic Palmyra’s Pirates of the Erie Canal require rascally racers for the eighth running of the Pillage ‘N the Village Bed Race Regatta during Palmyra Pirate Weekend, on Saturday, August 13, 2016 in Palmyra, NY. And this year, you don’t even have to make your bed! The Pillage ‘N the Village Bed Race Regatta follows a Grand Parade and streaks straight through the heart of historic Palmyra’s 19th century Main Street business district, with five-person crews competing head-to-head against other running raiders and scurrying scallywags for a cash prize and other treasure. In prior years, racers were asked to build and run their own racing schooners, but this year the all-wise and minty-fresh Race Commodore Captain Mojito has directed the building of a six racing bed fleet, ready to roll. All you have to do this year is bring a team of five! Racers are certainly welcome to build their own racing bed as in years prior, just consult the official rules and entry form for complete bed specifications, available for download now at www.eriecanalpirates.com In addition, the good Captain would like you to know that he has waived all entry fees and deemed a $100 prize for the winning team. “It were a good year for plunderin’,” explained the munificent Mojito. “And though my bounty may not be as boundless as the sea, me booty ain’t too bad!” Pirates of all rank—“the ranker the better,” according to Mojito--are welcome to enlist, with local and regional service and community organizations, and businesses expected to round out the racing field. Unclear about what constitutes a bed racing? Imagine a bed with four wheels (preferably one in each corner), four pushers to supply the motive power, and one navigator to guide the craft, and overcome any obstacle in its path. About Palmyra Pirate Weekend. Palmyra Pirate Weekend is a family-friendly festival intended to showcase Palmyra, New York, the Queen of Canal Towns. The visit of the Lois McClure to the Port of Palmyra Marina in August, 2007 was the first wind in the sails for Palmyra Pirate Weekend, yet this grassroots event has grown by the hard work of some creative and talented people who have long recognized Palmyra as the perfect place to live, work, and play. ###
