Greektragictrilogy’s:OedipustheKing,OedipusatColonus,andAntigone.
Theseplaysfollowthefallofthegreatking,Oedipus,andlaterthetragedies
thathischildrensuffer.Antigone,whichcomeslastchronologically,wasthe
playSophocleswrotefirst,around440B.C.
Antigone,ayoungwomanspeakstruthtopower,firmlyconvincedthatsheis
rightinfollowingthepreceptsofherGods.HerKing,Creon,isfirmly
convincedoftheopposite–hislawshouldbeobeyed.Thestoryescalates
whenKingCreondecidesthatnobodycanburythebodyofthetraitor
Polyneices,Antigone’sbrother.CreonconsequentlysentencesAntigonetoan
atrociousdeath,onlytobeterriblypunishedbytheGodsforhishubris.
