About Us
Welcome to Kendal Nutricare (KNC) located in the
English Lake District next to the National Park.
We are a pharmaceutical research company,
specialising in the manufacture of world class health
care products for the entire lifecycle, from infant
formulas and cereals to adult formulas, from pharma
grade Anti Allergen and Lactose free powders to
Complete meals.
For over 50 years the factory in Kendal has produced
for famous brands such as GSK, Boots, Meiji, Nutricia,
United Pharmaceuticals, HJ Heinz and Hero Group.
The company is managed by an experienced team and
is backed up by highly qualified process engineers,
operative technicians, laboratory microbiologists and
research scientists. Many of them with over 25 years
experience in the health care industry.
We export to global markets under the following
accreditations: China CNCA, BRC Grade AA, Halal,
Kosher, Organic Soil Association Certification, China
HACCP and International ISO 14001.
The UK Department for Environment, Food and Rural
Affairs (DEFRA) inspect the factory annually under the
European regulation 853/2004. Our factory dairy export
number is UK KL 020 EC. We are UK ‘Red Tractor’
accredited for farm assured UK milk.
We continue to drive improvement by reinvesting in
sustainability programmes, new technologies and
partnering with leading UK universities, colleges and
research centres.

Quality Control
All products manufactured at Kendal Nutricare
are subject to strict manufacturing standards
(GMP). The infant formulas are modeled on the
nutritional components of mothers breast milk
following the Codex Alimentarius and meet the
most up to date guidelines. The products are
updated regularly through constant consultation
with Paediatric Specialists. Over the years the
formulations have been evaluated in clinical trials.
All materials entering the factory are sourced from
audited suppliers. Each pack of finished product
leaves the factory only after positive release from
microbiological, chemical and organoleptic tests
against agreed specifications.
Kendal Nutricare has a team of Microbiologists,
Laboratory Technicians and Quality Assurance
Scientists. They ensure high quality standards
are embedded in every stage of production using
criteria which are stricter than many International
Standards. All our ingredients come from approved
suppliers and undergo rigorous checks / analysis
prior to manufacture. In-line cameras monitor the
canning process and X-rays scan every product
packed. A HACCP system is in place which covers
Critical Control Points, Quality Control Points and
Prerequisite Control Points.
Safety and Hygiene
Our Factory purity, temperature and humidity are
constantly monitored and automatically adjusted
by our in house computer system. Strict hygiene
rules are in operation. Areas of the production are
divided into three zones, low, medium and high care.
Rigorous clothes changing regimes are in force.
Automated production lines are monitored using a
sophisticated SCADA system. Clean in Place/Sterilise
in place (CIP/SIP) systems integrate to provide
optimum automated cleaning.

Our Kendal Factory produces infant formulas,
infant cereals and whole milk based adult formulas.
Infant Milk Formula
Infant Cereals
Starting with the whole milk we produce a range
of specialist recipes for infants including a Medical
Range.
We produce specialist infant cereals and organic
cereals for different markets with a mixture of fruits,
vegetables, grains and rice in combination with
prebiotics, vitamins and minerals.
All raw materials and packaging are sourced
from our audited suppliers. Our products are wet
blended and spray dried. This technique guarantees
the consistency and food safety. The production
process is constantly controlled and our quality
control team monitor each production step.
Our high speed filling lines offer flexibility to pack in
metal and composite cans, bag in box and sachets.
The filling areas are under positive pressure. The
filling heads are enclosed and product is gas
flushed to ensure quality of product is optimum
throughout the shelf life.
All raw materials are sourced from only audited and
certified suppliers. We “wet blend” our recipes then
pasteurise them using a jet steam cooker.
Adult Formula
Milk based products include products for Pregnant
Women, Adults, Specialist Formulas for active
sports and working people and Complete Meals to
provide a balanced daily diet.
Clinical Nutrition
Kendal Nutricare offers nutritional solutions for
enteral administration for people recovering from
chemotherapy and post-surgery. Also for treatment
of dysphasia, diabetes, Crohn’s disease and generic
disorders.
