Visa - Frequently Asked Questions What type of visa is appropriate for my travel purpose? A Type C visa is required for short-term stays of up to three months and destined for tourist purposes, such as visiting relatives or friends, participating in sports or cultural events, for business, and schooling or study programs. Type C visas are valid for the entire Schengen area, which is why they are commonly referred to a Schengen visas. Please note that people intending to come to Switzerland for the purpose of pursuing gainful employment, are required to hold both a valid Schengen visa and work permit. Type C visa are decided upon by the Swiss Embassy in Singapore and issued within 5-15 working days if the documentation is in order. A Type D visa is required for stays of more than three months' duration. This visa is a national visa, issued to people who wish to stay in Switzerland legally and for a prolonged period of time. Stays subject to type D visa requirements need to be previously authorized by the appropriate authorities Type D visas are typically issued to people wishing to work or study in Switzerland, and for purposes of family reunification or lengthy medical treatment Type D visa are decided upon by the appropriate authorities in Switzerland. Processing time is 8-12 weeks. Do I need to make an appointment for the visa application? Yes, please follow the instructions on the website. Can I pay by credit card or by cheque? We do not accept credit card/cheque/NETS payment. Please bring sufficient cash with you. Do I need to come in person to hand in the application? Yes Do my children also have to come for the visa application? Children below 12 do not need to come to the Embassy in person Can I send someone else to pick up the visa? Yes. You’ll be given a collection slip at the time of submission. The person who collects the visa for you must present the said collection slip. Is an online bank statement sufficient? No Can the invitation be faxed over from our Singapore company? The invitation needs to be faxed directly to the Embassy from Switzerland Can I submit the visa application even if the invitation has not been faxed over yet? No Can I submit the visa application even though I’m missing a document? And submit the missing document at a later stage? Applications will only be accepted if ALL documents are in order.
