Fourth Grade IMovies!
By Sophia Blalock and Ruby Snyder
While all the other grades are learning math and ELA,
the fourth graders are making IMovies about the West
Region of the United States. There are some props
and special effects in case you were wondering. The
students will be acting away. The movies will not be
two hours long, more like ten minutes with no songs.
There will be sad, happy and funny parts. There will
also be problems and different places to start. If you
are wondering, there are no costumes but maybe
some animations. Our IMovies are great, so no
questions!!
If you want to learn all about the West Region of the
United States, watch some of our IMovies.
Weather –Summer is Coming!
by Kylie French, Connor Gleason and Ian MaGuire
According to The Farmer’s Almanac, the summer will be
cooler than normal, although there will be hot periods in
early to mid-July and mid- to late August. The north will
have above normal rainfall.
Here are some interesting facts about summer:
- The first day of summer is between June 20th and 22nd
each year. The first day of summer is called the
Summer Solstice. (Ian)
- One super exciting fact about summer is the summer
Olympics. The Olympics started back in ancient times
in the Greek Empire and continue today. They are
hosted every four years. (Kylie)
- Frisbees were invented in the 1870’s as a pie plate.
But in the 1940’s college students began throwing them
around. They are no longer pie plates, but a favorite
summer game. (Connor)
- August was named after Julius Caesar’s nephew. (Ian)
- Ice pops were invented in 1905 by an 11 year old kid.
(Connor)
- More thunderstorms happen in he summertime than
any other season. They also more commonly take place
on the south side of England. (Kylie)
Should outdoor /indoor recess be a
choice?
By Lilah Allen and Hannah Le
Recess is a fun time of the day for all students. But, have you
ever thought that some students may want to stay inside?
We believe that every student should have the choice of indoor
recess or outdoor recess. Some children would like to draw, read
and have fun indoors. But, some children like to run, play sports
and have fun outdoors. If you think it might be a difficult theory,
we have a solution and the fourth grade could pilot this idea next
year.
On Monday, we could have indoor recess in Mrs. Cote’s
classroom. On Tuesday in Mrs. Brigham’s classroom and so on.
But what about Friday? Every Friday teachers could rotate their
classrooms for indoor recess. Of course, one recess monitor would
stay inside everyday in this process.
If you think it would be boring inside, every class could provide
games to play, paper and crayons for drawing and many other fun
activities. We want every student to feel that they have an
opportunity to choose indoor or outdoor recess.
If you are a recess monitor and you feel that this is not a good
idea, maybe you could switch off with another recess monitor and
stay outside. Or if you want to stay inside, the other recess
monitors could go outside.
We hope all teachers, recess monitors and students will
consider our idea.

Dear Fourth Grade Friend
By Kaiden Botticelli, Samantha Driver, Colby
Duncan and Grace Harrison
Dear Fourth Grade Friend (continued)
Dear Fourth Grade Friend,
I am new in school and I need advice because I’m
not making friends. It is really hard. Do you know
how I could make some friends?
Sincerely, Bob the Know One
Dear Fourth Grade Friend,
I am having trouble doing my homework. When I get
home I have to take care of my puppy. So, I don’t
have enough time to do my homework. After I take
care of my puppy, my brother takes me to my cousin’s
house. What should I do?
Sincerely, Troubled Fourth Grade Friend
Dear Bob the Know One,
I do have some advice for you. I think you should try
sitting on the Buddy Bench. If you have already
tried that, ask someone to play with you. After a
while, ask them to be your friend.
Sincerely, Your Fourth Grade Friend
Dear Troubled Fourth Grade Friend,
I think you should go home and feed your puppy.
Then, bring your homework to your cousin’s house and
do it there. Take your homework to your house when
you are finished. Then, bring it to class and get an A+!
Sincerely, Your Fourth Grade Friend
Dear Fourth Grade Friend,
I need advice. I have a new bus driver this year.
She gave us assigned seats. All my friends are
sitting together and I have to sit by myself two seats
up. What do I do?
Sincerely, I Don’t Want to Go on the Bus
Dear Fourth Grade Friend,
I am writing because I am having problems with
division. I can’t calculate anything right and all the
other kids know how to divide. When my teacher says
we are going to do division, I know I am going to fail. I
am so nervous to ask my teacher for help
Sincerely, A. Barnie
Dear I Don’t Want to Go on the Bus,
Sorry about your seating arrangements. Here are
some suggestions. Ask your bus driver to change
your seat closer to your friends. You could also try
some distractions like an electronic, a book, drawing
or writing. You might try making new friends with
the kids that sit near you on the bus. If this doesn’t
help, use your imagination. Imagination gives you
an explanation.
Sincerely, Your Fourth Grade Friend
Dear A. Barnie,
I can relate, as I am awful at division. I’m the last one
to finish the problem everyday in the morning. Maybe
you could try practicing at home. Make a game out of
it. Think how fun that would be. Let your imagination
flow with division!
Sincerely, Your Fourth Grade Friend

Book Reviews
Because of Winn-Dixie written by Kate DiCamillo,
Reviewed by Jessica Clemons
I chose this book to review because it is such a great book
and there are so many mixed emotions.
Opal is a young girl who lives with her dad, who is a
preacher. She just moved to Naomi, Florida. She doesn’t really
have friends and then she meets Winn-Dixie. Winn-Dixie is a
dog. He helps her on her journeys. She meets some friends
and learns about them. This dog is not only a dog, but a loyal
friend.
I would recommend this book because it shows you how
much a pet/friend can help you.
GHOSTS written by Raina Telgemier, Reviewed by
Savana Malo
I chose this book because I’ve read all of the books in the
series. I like all of them and I own five of them!
A family moves to Bahia de la Luna. After they get settled,
they go for a walk and meet a dude. It turns out they end up
going to his house. Cat’s and Maya’s dad actually works with
the dude’s father. Everyone ends up talking about “the day of
the dead.” Maya becomes anxious about going to the carnival.
But, Cat, the older sister, not so much!
I would recommend these books because they are long
comic books and they are really good.
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory written by
Roald Dahl, Reviewed by Ella Halnon
I love this book. I have since I read it the first time. Plus, I
love Roald Dahl, he is so imaginative.
Charlie Bucket is a boy whose family doesn’t have a lot of
money. When the five golden tickets go out in the world, inside
chocolate bars, Charlie desperately wants one. The tickets are
for a trip inside the Chocolate Factory. He has one chance
because he only gets one chocolate bar each year. Will it
happen?
I would recommend this book because it is a great story that
will make you feel good.
Diary of a Wimpy Kid – Double Down written
by Jeff Kinney, Reviewed by Cam Roy
I chose this book because of the funny illustrations.
Greg Heffley plays so many video games that his mom
thinks his brain is going to mush. Greg gets really mad if
anyone touches his XBox. What will happen?
Yes, I would recommend this book because it is so funny, it
made me jump out of my seat!
Recess Activities
By Kayla Aubut, Kenny Hanson and Mia Herron
There are many games to play at recess! Here are three of our
favorite games. Infection: It is a very simple game just like tag.
One person is the tagger (infector). If they tag another person, they
are then on the tagger’s team. The game is played until the last
person is tagged (or infected). That person is the winner. Here is
another game you probably know about. Jackpot: Someone
throws a ball and calls points “dead” or “alive.” If the ball is alive,
you have to catch it in the air. If the ball is dead, you can catch it
after it hits the ground. There is also a Jackpot where you can be
the thrower if you catch the ball. The last game is old, but it is still
fun. Four-Square: It is played on a Four-Square court. Someone
bounces a ball into another square. If it gets out of that person’s
square, they are out of the game. The rest of the players move up
one square and continue until there is one person left.
Those are three fun games you can play at recess. You can also
make up your own games!
