The part were we learned to create a mapclient with openlayers and geoserver.
For me, it was all new to be able to use HTML and websites, so that was great. Also, I really got a lot out of the project.

What I enjoyed most of the course was the final project. Even if a student has to put a lot of energy on it, it can be very interesting to have a practicle experience on the Internet GIS world and to put in practice everything learnt during the course.

I have done many database projects that dealt largely with attribute data. I needed to opportunity to develop expertise in developing database that can also manage spatial data
I did like most in this course is that it uses open source applications exclusively. Because, open source GIS applications more accessible to students from resource constrained countries, like me, than the commercial ones.

I really liked this course's emphasis on open standards and open source projects. Writing GML and digging into the OpenLayers documentation was very useful in particular. Getting up and running with GeoServer is something I probably wouldn't have done without being pushed into it. I think this is a good start for further progress into online GIS development.
In the course I liked the project most. This is because it gives one the practical experience and confidence needed in the world of Internet GIS.
Over all the internet GIS course is valuable for me. All modules are good, but I like the more interactive web mapping and project because it has produced great worth of web mapping.

The final project part though challenging gave me an insight into a practical way of disseminating geospatial information over the web
I liked all the exercises, I have really learnt a lot in this course. I think I liked the project most. It was fun to use what I have learnt from this course, even if it was hard and took time. Learning web developing skills as well as dealing with geoserver, open layers and WMS protocol.
Before saying any thing i would to thank you in organizing such interesting course, I am really happy with the knowledge and skills i got in the course, all the concepts, the different languages that i have learnt in the course is so unique to me, the coherence of the modules is so nice and it makes one to acquire with a profound knowledge in Internet GIS. For me i like every aspect of the course. I enjoyed the practical exercises the best they were well explained and built on each other in a nice way. The project. This part was nice since I could work more independent and creative. And I like cartography, so I enjoyed designing my map service. And it is great that you put so much focus on GeoServer and OpenLayers, I will have great use of that knowledge in the future.
The course is current ie up-todate and it reflects very important new technologies in Internet GIS. It is very useful from the setup to the contents. The teachers were very helpful, they replied in time and give useful comments
I like the following aspect of the course: -The Course is comprehensive. It touches all aspects of the web Technology (client and server side issues). -The course starts with general briefing and providing background on web scripting and Internet GIS framework. -The course materials are also organized in professional manner. -The interactive videos are well presented and the theoretical sections really provide and support the practical aspect of the course. -The instructors are really supportive and positive in all aspect of their involvement in the courses. It is great to have such dedicated instructors who really comment and do critical views on my submitted exercise Learning to use Open Source solutions (OpenLayers and GeoServer) and integrate Google Maps API Learning advanced functionalities of Google Earth Learning to code with JavaScript and how GML, KML and SVG files are written I loved the gradual building of skills and having the final project made everything stick better in my mind. The course was really introduce helpful topics like SVG, GML and Geoserver and WMS Why:this topics is essential in understanding the Web GIS applications how communication take place for sharing data between different applications or systems
Practical implementation of the presented concepts were the best part of the course. Usable "real-life" examples of possible practical solutions are the reason for emphasizing this aspect of the course.

I liked all.
The lecture on ArcIMS was not really very useful. While it could be argued that it is interesting from a historical point of view, I did not get much out of it.
The final project. It was tough as there were not enough hints to build a complete new WMS after taking only a couple of excercises about openlayers.
Sometimes I get stuck and trying to find out how to make the next step
I didn't like the first exercise. I don't think it is that necessary, but the whole course is well organized. ALthough I found openlayers a useful tool, it was not easy to understand and there was not a good guidance of it by the course, with the exercises i could not always understand what i was doing , until the last project, were i had to do it my self, and must understand. All aspects of this course was very appealing to me. UML Modelling initially was not too appealing, however as my understanding and and skill grew in this technique I came to appreciate it greatly.
The GML part is the least interested part to me. It needs more developed lectures and notes regarding its application to web GIS.

The lack of direct guidelines on implementation of a web map service with Google overlay and using difference coordinate reference systems
(CRS). This because, even though one gets a lot of joy and satisfaction when finally the service works, valuable time and energy is spend on one item in the wide field of internet GIS. Nothing, overall the course is good. But some notes should be available in solving the practical exercises like interactive web mapping and technical modules.

1.The first part in SVG and GML (though important) approach to the assignment is quite difficult to a new person. The GML part if possible should be tailored in such a way that one can 'test' the file. I don´t know, because I think that the course were really good. Some links from the lecture didn´t work. And the geoserver installation were quite hard to perform. the teaching method was really poor. The teachers were extremely knowledgeable, however, they didn't have the ability to teach step by step. I
found some webpages teaching how to produce a web map service with reasoning for each peace of code to help me learning. exercise P06 and final projects are examples of not teaching well. in P06, we are asked to put some code in the middle of a prepared code and
there is no explanation of why we have such a sequence and if we want to change any part, what we should do. ( I believe there is a good explanation of working with geoserver and Atlas Styler but not dealing with Java Script code. The final project has the same problem. there is no explanation of how a code for openlayers should be written and what sequences should be considered.
I have nothing that i have liked the least, as i said above, the course design is so interlinked, one module is the base to the other, and each equally important. Some of the exercises and information was a little outdated. The course litterature was not wurth the buy perhaps online papers or other texts would be better. The first exercise was very demanding but with scanty results. Most of the exercises are in need of an update. Most of the recommended applications don't work anymore, web pages recommended to read in lectures don't exist, Google Earth and GIS software interoperability has increased much since 2008, the SVG format did not quite get the expected "boom", and so on. The Cartography section. I liked it, but if you compare with other parts, this was the least. May be because they were no direct assignment connected to this section. But the concepts gain in this part helped me in the project.
Spending more time. Ya since it is technical it takes more time and one should spent more time on internet and when the internet connection is not good, in my case (Ethiopia), it is not encouraging but it is special case can not be taken as the course problem.
Studying the legal implications of web mapping. I know this is an important aspect that every webmap designer should know. But, with the huge
quantity of legal texts (laws, decrees, amendments, acts etc.), retrieving and selecting the laws that are applicable to map services was not easy.
In the final project the task needs to be clarified a bit. The data can be a bit unclear (I did use Google translate to figure out what I was looking at). Some suggestions on resources to use - further reading could be added I like the Geoserver s/w Why: this is the first time for me to know about especially i was working before on ArcIMS and ArcGIS server but the open source s/w Geoserver was new for me which open my mind to many useful capabilities within open source s/w I have no critics for the course organization nor topics. I would like to know how to publish a map service for real - how to use GeoServer etc to produce a website that anyone could access. Possibly,
it is straightforward - I will look into it.
It would have been better to start the course with some introductory Java-script excercises.
I still do not see the link between the postgre database and arcgis. I think that the course is well organized and structured. If a person has never had the opportunity to experience javascript it could be maybe interesting to spend on the topic a little more time (on the practical side - script -)

A little more information that clarifies how the behaviour configured on the data in ArcCatlog impacts the user work in ArcMap. There was some
level of understanding in this area, however after completing the course I felt like I was feeling my way through in terms of making the connection between the behaviours set in ArcCatalog and what I do in ArcMap. I hasten to add however that by spending some more time with geodatabases that disconnect may disappear!
For me this course is almost complete.
The composition of the course module makes the the course complete therefore nothing is missing as to my knowledge. The course can be considered as complete course and nothing is missing in the course. Because all the module are well designed and applicable in the real world to practice the development of web based GIS. But if there are other tools(software) that helps for Web Gis like geoserver and openlayer, it is better to include in the course as one module.
I can see that there was formerly a module on ArcIMS and I assume this was due to recent changes at ESRI. It would still be useful to include maybe one exercise where the student gets to try using the current Server hands-on, but I understand this would probably require some extra licences.
As mentioned above what was missing is that direct information especially in dealing with different CRSs.

Nothing that I can think of. teaching WFS and WCS protocols.
It is good in the future if you provide or substantiate each modules with a couple of practical examples that helps students to capture concepts easily, because i had hard time to look for resources and examples about the concepts.
It would be nice to do a exercise on mobile applications too but perhaps that would be too much for 7,5hp. I would have liked to learn more about map applications for smartphones. Only Geoserver was used in this course, I think it could be better to include other servers such as Map Server, ArcGIS, etc
If possible to include practical session on mobile application. I don't know but some Web Technology frame works like joomla, Drupal also have
some spatial components (modules) and introducing them might be good. Perhaps more information on programming with Google Maps API.
I would like to know how to use the data to produce a more advanced result, such as clicking on a building and getting the number of residents there (as I thought it should be possible based on the data). It seems there are limitations using OpenLayers - so I would have like to see a discussion on this and what is considered to be relevant for future directions. the missing in my opinion to suggest using open source IDE for writing HTML and Java Script. Why: the IDE will give the students some power to debug and to write HTML and Java script in the way that make them interspersed and looking for add new functions
I have no remarks on the course workflow. Yet in general I believe this course needs to be updated more often than others, since it depends on available internet solutions for GIS, which are growing and changing very fast.

Nothing, everything was of interest and useful.
Geoserver. It is a server for maps and geographic information which is widely used by a lot of websites.
The project was essential, because it brought everything together.

I think that all modules are interesting and necessary the final project, Java. It is actually a good course. the final project, Java. It is actually a good course. The Project Assignment. This aspect of the course allowed me the opportunity to apply principles learnt to date in solving real life problems. It urged me to review certain topics covered in greater details as well as to do further research. Some I was able to solve, while others like importing GML file into the geodatabase still eludes me. Nevertheless the research taught me many valuable lessons.
All parts are very important. I don't suggest any part to be excluded from this course.

Nothing should be excluded in the course otherwise the course will be incomplete. GML and KML because they are very good for storage and online parsing.

It's hard to deal with HTML, CSS, Java and additional software such as GeoServer and OpenLayers, so it will be hard to exclude one of these parts. Javascript is the most advanced, so I would pay a bit more attention to this, if that would be possible

The part with the smily, it was very hard, but after when I got it work I was very happy. All the modules are absolutely important

In fact I can say all modules are important and any of this section should not be removed. As the Web technology is dynamic in nature and in particular the web-GIS technology is new there might be so many changes. Therefore, my suggestion is that updating the course materials in yearly or bi-annual interval might be needed.
Open Source solutions, because of their accessibility. Absolutely everything should be kept. Do not make the course easier by removing the final project. It is essential to have that challenge to remember what we studied. the standard fundamentals topics : GML, SVG and WMS Why, it is a light for whose trying to understand the GIS Web application model Practical exercises, especially project tasks. It brings comprehensive view on the whole course and used technologies and methods, thus it is essential for gaining true value from the course.

There is a need for checking that all URLs are up-to-date. I find web-based learning and exercises very good. I can organise my time as it suits me. Also, there is a huge amount of information available online. I like the use of open-source software and also of standards.
Internet web mapping is the best way of disseminating spatial information to users. It is easily accessible. The course was very interesting, but it needs a lot of patience, because prior knowledge about Java-Script is necessary. The student has to learn some codes from the internet, which makes it a bit difficult to accomplish with only 7.5 ECTS.
With the web base/ITC mediated learning sometimes I experience difficulty, I have to go to the forum, then do some research, then ask the teacher... this takes awhile whereas if a teacher is in walking distance, i just have to walk up and ask. I am really satisfied with my web based learning in this course. I could manage my time as I prefered and I din't have any problem with the teachers. They were fast in giving feedbacks on the exercises submitted. About my experience of web based learning in this Master, I can say that I am really satisfied. I just would have preferred not to have fixed dates when to start the courses, as decided from this August. Since I think that most of the web based learning students are workers (full time or part time), I reckon that this decision can limit a bit the possibility to organize and manage the personal time.

The lack of face to face dialogue caused me to take quite some to time to resolve relatively simple challenges. The challenges were also present in the compulsory courses. However, since many students were taking the same course the forum offered us to opportunity to talk about challenges and help each other resolved them. In doing the project in this course, I encountered areas where help was needed but these
were areas unique to my project, as such the forum was of limited assistance.
The unique experience I got in this course is its usage of open source GIS applications. Because, for example using the student ArcGIS software, for other course like Remote sensing giving me a headache. Even though I got an authorization key and I done it accordingly. All the extensions are not working for the reasons that I have no idea.
After taking this course I have been acquainted with developing web based application of GIS. I am thinking of developing atlas map of my organization using web based applications and practicing exploring Google map along with organization maps. Developing map using ARC GIS is based on the compulsory courses. Therefore, without this basic knowledge other application of GIS like Internet GIS is impractical. After completing all the module of the course, I have been well acquainted with the application of internet GIS, how to develop web base gis applications. As a result I am developing web based application atlas map of my organization. The compulsory courses of the program are very
important because without knowing the basic courses of GIS it is difficult to exercise other application of GIS, like internet GIS. Since this is a course on web services, there is no resin it shouldn't be entirely web-based.
It gave more insight into the web based GIS. Thus enabling web application of knowledge gained in the earlier courses.
My experience is very good in learning of this course. After the study of comulsary courses GISA01, GISA02 and GISA11, internet GIS course has produced the methodology and concepts about internet mapping which is valuable in current period.
I did not know the OpenLayers was such a big platform, so thought it was a bit too much to focus on this, but later I found out it is also used by the FAO and partners. The most important aspect of this course is understanding how to reproject layers and how to transfer one projection to the other. For me, the most interesting and related course was remote sensing, as this covers the same study area (Lund), which means the shapefiles can be used for this course as well. Having some prior knowledge of HTML, CSS and the like it quite helpful, as otherwise it will become a puzzle (which is fun too) instead of an intellectual exercise. My experience is very good in learning of this course. After the study of comulsary courses GISA01, GISA02 and GISA11, internet GIS course has produced the methodology and concepts about internet mapping which is valuable in current period.
Its quite challenging fo some of us when the javascripts does not work and one cannot point out where the problem is. and the forum does not seem to help.
This course were very good. And good and quick communications with the teachers. I have taken almost all the course in GIS at masters level,and from my experience what can i say is that as long as the course and each modules design is supported the necessary resource,materials and enough examples that explain each concepts in practical sense, the ITC mediated learning is no different than the traditional way of learning. So for your are doing good but you can make it best for some course if you
include practical examples, the other most interesting issue in the ICT mediated learning is, the response time for submitted exercises or requests to GIS teachers.Hence equally what is important is, your response time to the submitted exercise. Here what i would like to mention, I am very happy with the interaction i have with you GIS teachers in this course, i was almost get a quick response to my submitted exercise, and i was really encouraged to do more. The response to questions and hand in of exercises were fast and the lectures were good. The teachers gave well explained help when stuck. It is always more difficult to ask for help in web based courses when there is something unclear, sometimes it is impossible to even compilation the question. But I never feel as good as after getting something to work after hours of being stuck. I can't relate to the other courses since I studied GIS elsewhere. I have no problem with web based teaching. In general communication worked
out just fine with teachers. What I liked most GISA01, GISA02 and GISA11 was the video courses, the online self-test and the interactive presentation (exe). I don't say they must be included in all other courses BUT I am saying they were very useful. May be they were necessary as those courses especially the GISA01 and GISA02 were very basic. Sometimes we, online students, feel alone and isolated. Some interactive tools are very helpful
It is technically difficult and somehow it requires more reading and requires more internet connection than the previous one as the web-service.
Coding with JavaScript was sometimes frustrating. I was unable to run some correct codes (provided in the course/exercise texts). Nevertheless, it was very rewarding in the end. I received good help from the staff. I had some installation problems - an update messed up my previous settings. But, I had enormous problems in A11 because of my ArcGIS software and incompatibility with a Japanese system. It helps when students post on the forum what problems they had and how they solved them. So, access to old comments should be available. the web-based /ITC media learning was helpful and give keys to get new knowledge areas, the main propose to highlight the main topics with some overview and fundamentals and which require from the student to search and digging deep to gain more information and experience.
This course requires more technical engagement and sometimes consulting with teacher. I guess this is the main difference. Also this is something that is provided by the virtual classroom. I had good experience in acquiring materials and dealing with the modules' tasks.

I think the litterature is rather old and there should be more up-to date articles and books. It could also be that the course content need to be updated, but I cannot tell for sure.
I am continuously impressed at the exercises - they are pitched at the right level (in my opinion) and they require a lot of work, but are "doable".
I would like to thank the teachers, especially Ali for his help through out the course.
The course is a great course and challenging at time... but I did enjoy doing it. I was stuck many times and had to figure out where to go next... this led to delays...but I generally enjoyed doing this course
To me this course was like I high point in my studies to date. In completing the project I was forced to revisit many of the theories and practicals
that lessons thought since the beginning of the course. I have a much greater appreciation for the entire programme! The course is very organized regarding it lecture note, videos, and exercised and I am also satisfied with the instructors feedback.
I really appreciate the way the courses is designed.
Besides geoserver and openlayer other software that helps for the development of web GIS, need to be introduced with this courses for the students.

It's quite a fun course, although it would be fun to see what other students are doing. In some other courses you need to submit the final project, and although that might be difficult for this course, submitting a presentation with your interface and ideas would be interesting. This might give some more inspiration and motivation for other students.

I would like to point out that it is great you have this course. There has been a very interesting development regarding web GIS resent years, and such knowledge will be very useful in the future. I however wish the content was more up-to-date. There were also often errors in the material provided for exercises in Moodle. I don't know if this was intentional or due to lack of update. But when unfamiliar with the formats, one
had to spend hours, often days to figure it out. For some exercise it was really hard to find solutions online. It gives a negative starting point when one wants to learn about new things, even a sense of hopelessness. I am sure it is great method when one is more familiarized with these formats however. The course was on internet GIS, most of the technology used (almost greater than 80%) were Open Sourse with exception of Google Earth. From the contents it was possible to use some proprietary software. I don't know why they were not included in exercises, may be because of licenses! This resulted into sometimes mixing or repetition with the Open Source in GIS (GISN04) course. But all in all, for me this course is among the best course I have ever studied in LUMA-GIS. The course provides me the needed skills to integrate the spatial component of a project in any web page design applications. Though I need to practice a lot, I can say I built on confidence on how to approach the overall webGIS technology. Thanks to all of my instructors. I found this course to suit me very well. I have some background in programming, but am not a full programmer. I found it challenged me to learn new concepts and ways of writing code, but at the same time it did not overwhelm me. i am really feeling good when choosing the course which was give me new knowledge, i really need to thank the developer of the course congtent; because i was working before on many Web products by ESRI and this course give me more deep understanding Thanks for the fast and professional teaching staff.
