Giraffe’s Can’t Dance is an interactive concert for children composed by the Hallé’s Education Director Steve Pickett. Based on the popular children’s book, ‘Giraffe’s Can’t Dance’, the concert uses descriptive rhymes from the book to introduce children to the instruments of the orchestra in a fun and exciting way. During Giraffe’s Can’t Dance you will see Hallé musicians perform as you’ve never seen them before. In addition to playing their instruments, they will recite poetry, act, sing and dance! The audience will also get involved – exciting! After completing 20 years service as Principal Contra Bassoon with the Ulster Orc hestra, Steve Pickett moved to the Hallé as Education Director in 2002. During his time at the Hallé the Education Programme has more than tripled in size. Last year over 50,000 participants and audience were engaged throug h 68 projects ranging from Early Years, to young offenders, from working with dement ia patients and care home staff to ‘Come and Pla y’ concerts where thousands of children play with the Orchestra.
