Spring Butterflies: We are seeing a variety of native butterflies such as buckeyes, dusky wings, red spotted purples, black swallowtails, spicebush
swallowtails, and a viceroy in addition to the tiger swallowtails and sulphurs.
Bicycle Gardens Tour: On Sundays at 2 p.m., join us at the Callaway Discovery Center for a two-hour Bicycle Tour of the Gardens.
Test your Nature IQ: Daily, Stop by the Discovery Classroom for an up-close look at animal specimens as well as test your animal IQ.
Mother’s Day Lunches, Sunday, May 14 Treat Mom to a special day with a visit to Callaway Gardens and a special meal. Choose from a buffet in The

GARDENS SPOTLIGHT
As you travel through the gardens, be sure to watch for:






Native Azaleas: These airy, open shrubs, which begin showing color in mid-March, reach heights of 15 feet. Some also have a
wonderfully sweet fragrance. Throughout the Gardens, including Callaway Brothers Azalea Bowl, Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Trail,
Scenic Drive
Mountain Laurel: Clusters of light pink to white cup-like flowers can be seen along the Scenic Drive.
Sparkleberry: The flowers are white, bell-shaped, and 3–4 mm in diameter with a five-lobed corolla. The fruit is a round dry berry about
6 mm in diameter, green at first, black when ripe, edible but bitter and tough.
Woodland Phlox: Beautiful clusters of sky blue flowers waving in the wind. Wildflower Trail and some places along the Scenic Drive.
Native Wildflowers: A self-guided walk on the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Trail in the Meadowlark Gardens in Spring it’s the best time
of year to see blooming wildflowers, or spring ephemerals, such as blue phlox, verbena, and more.
Rhododendrons: A shrub or small tree of the heath family, with large clusters of bell-shaped flowers and typically with large evergreen
leaves, widely grown as an ornamental.
