Let Your Light Shine I Want to Walk as a Child of the Light

MORNING WORSHIP
October 9, 2016
9:30 AM
Last week we saw that it was ok to pray for ourselves, to ask God to bless us…. This Sunday we
will look at the content of this famous prayer and discover how to pray this prayer for our
congregation as we seek God for the future. There are several personal discoveries that we will
apply to our own prayer practice.

Let Your Light Shine
Chancel Choir
Let your light shine, shine, shine for Jesus all the time, time, time. Walk in the light, beautiful
light of his love! Let your voices praise, praise, praise. Let your love for Jesus raise! Walk in
the light, beautiful light of his love! Come to the light, heavenly light: Jesus is the light of the
world! Shine ev’ryday, let your spirit say: Jesus is the light of the world! Come to the One;
glory in the Son! All the debt for sin is paid. Let your voices sing, for we know the King: Jesus
is the truth and way! Let your light shine, shine, shine for Jesus all the time, time, time. Walk
in the light, beautiful light of his love! Let your voices praise, praise, praise! Let your love for
Jesus raise! Walk in the light, beautiful light of his love! Shine your light, heavenly light. Walk
in the light of his love. Let your light shine, shine, shine for Jesus all the time, time, time. Walk
in the light, beautiful light of his love! Let your voices praise, praise, praise! Let your love for
Jesus raise! Walk in the light, beautiful light, of his love!

*HYMN OF PRAISE
I Want to Walk as a Child of the Light
Hymnal, No. 539
Vs1
I want to walk as a child of the light; I want to follow Jesus.
God set the stars to give light to the world; the star of my life is Jesus.
In him there is no darkness at all; the night and the day are both alike.
The Lamb is the light of the city of God: Shine in my heart, Lord Jesus.
Vs2
I want to see the brightness of God; I want to look at Jesus.
Clear Sun of righteousness, shine on my path,
and show me the way to the Father.
In him there is no darkness at all; the night and the day are both alike.
The Lamb is the light of the city of God: Shine in my heart, Lord Jesus.
Vs3
I’m looking for the coming of Christ; I want to be with Jesus.
When we have run with patience the race,
we shall know the joy of Jesus.
In him there is no darkness at all; the night and the day are both alike.
The Lamb is the light of the city of God: Shine in my heart, Lord Jesus.
*PRAYER OF ADORATION
Rev. Dr. Robert C. Anderson
CHILDREN’S MOMENT
Rodney Barbour
Children: May the Lord bless you as you worship him…
People: and may the Lord bless you as you learn to follow him.
Confessing Sin
CALL TO CONFESSION
Jim Tyrone, elder
Leader: We come before you Lord, to confess our sin. Lord, you save us, you
bless us. Let your hand be with us to guide, protect, comfort and correct. Lord
save us. Lord, forgive us. Lord Restore us.
People: As you remembered Jabez, Lord, hear our prayers, deliver us
from the pain of sin and free us to serve you.
SILENT CONFESSION (Use this time for your personal confession as the Holy Spirit
leads you.)
*ASSURANCE OF PARDON
Leader: The Lord is merciful and gracioius, slow to anger and abounding in
steadfast love. He will not always accuse, nor will he keep his anger forever. He
does not deal with us according to our sins, nor repay us according to our
iniquities. For as the heavens are high above the earth, so great is his steadfast
love toward those who fear him.
People: As far as the east is from the west, so far he removes our
transgressions from us. As a father has compassion for his children, so
the Lord has compassion for those who fear him. Praise God from whom
forgiveness and blessings flow!

*SONG OF RESPONSE
Come, Thou Fount of Every Blessing
Hymnal, No. 45
Vs1
Come, thou Fount of every blessing, tune my heart to sing thy grace;
Streams of mercy, never ceasing, call for songs of loudest praise.
Teach me some melodious sonnet, sung by flaming tongues above;
Praise his name I’m fixed upon it, name of God’s redeeming love.
Vs2
Here I raise my Ebenezer, hither by thy help I’ve come;
And I hope, by thy good pleasure, safely to arrive at home.
Jesus sought me when a stranger, wandering from the fold of God;
He, to rescue me from danger, bought me with his precious blood.
Vs3
O to grace how great a debtor daily I’m constrained to be!
Let thy goodness, like a fetter, bind my wandering heart to thee;
Prone to wander, Lord, I feel it, prone to leave the God I love;
Here’s my heart, O, take and seal it; seal it for thy courts above.
