Most students have been to preschool or daycare prior to Kindergarten.

Objective:

The students will be able to listen to a story and be able to finish a statement orally relating
the book to themselves.

Common Core Standards: CC.K.R.F.4 Read emergent-reader texts with purpose and understanding.
AASL Standards:
1.1.6 Read, view, and listen for information presented in any format (e.g., textual, visual,
media, digital) in order to make inferences and gather meaning.

Procedures:
1. Seat the students on the story rug. 2. Read If You Take a Mouse to School. 3. Write
the sentence on board or chart paper " If You Take Me to School, I will ____" 4. Record
as many responses as time allows.
Assessment:
Students will finish the statement "If you take me to school, I will _______" orally as
teacher records responses.

1. Have students sit in assigned seats. 2. Read First Day Jitters by Julie Danneberg. 3.
Discuss feelings that we all may have on the first day of school. Discuss what the students
did to prepare for the first day. Discuss what teachers do to prepare for the first day. 4.
As a class, create a Venn diagram comparing and contrasting different things that teachers
and students do to prepare for the first day. Review comparing and contrasting 5. Discuss
how they are alike and different.
Assessment:
Students will orally participate in comparing and contrasting.
