Science Hard Book pages 298-304
3 States of Matter
1. Solids – matter that takes up a definite amount of space and has its own shape. The
particles in a solid are packed tightly together, and have a specific pattern.
2. Liquids – matter that has a definite volume, but no definite shape. Liquids take the
shape of their containers. The particles in a liquid are not as close together and slide
past each other. This is why liquids can change shape.
3. Gases – matter that has no definite shape or volume. Gases take the shape of their
containers. The particles in gases are far away from each other, have a lot of energy,
and move about freely.

Oil, orange juice, water – liquids
