JOB TRAINING The Job Training at YALP Far Rockaway is a great experience for students who have little or no knowledge of how to get ready for a job. Job training prepares the students for the world of work by assisting with resume writing, mock interviewing and budgeting. It also shows us how to look for jobs and what to wear for an job interview. This program is a 5 weeks program, twice a week, for 4 hours. I believe this program is good to have for students because we can obtain the important skills needed to go into the world of work. BY: LA’MESHIA JONES Students who have referred others to YALP. Students with educational gains. MY JOURNEY My Journey this cycle in the YALP Program began when a good friend of mine La’mesha Jones encouraged me to join the program so I can get my G.E.D. My friend explained to me that the program is a great opportunity for me to get my life together. So far, I am learning things I did not learn while I was in high school. I always felt high school was too crowded and too loud for me to learn anything. The YALP Program class environment is smaller and a great way for me to learn more. Now that I’m in this type of environment I am making a difference in my education for the better. Since I am learning more I can hopefully complete this program in one cycle and get my G.E.D. so I can make a difference in my two children’s life. BY: XAVIER RODRIGUEZ “Education is the passport to the future, For tomorrow belongs to those who prepare today”. - MALCOLM X STEADY IN MY STEPS My name is Christina Conyers. This is my second cycle in the YALP pro“I PERSEVERE THROUGH EVERY OBSTACLE” gram Far Rockaway. Although I would have loved to score out the program at the end cycle, I did not. I continue to persevere through every obstacle this time around. I will put all my time and effort into scoring out of YALP to further my education and better my life. I will work harder to make my dreams come true. I’m generally a quiet person who likes to stay to myself most of the time, but in order for me to be successful I have to come out of my shell and start to participate more in group / class activities. I started going to the board when asked to show my work. I attend class regularly so that I will not miss out on lessons and I like receiving $50 Stipends for perfect attendance. BY: CHRISTINA CONYERS JOY IN MY JOURNEY My first cycle was scary and challenging because I am a ESL student and did not have confidence in my ability to learn. I often missed days which affected my learning. Ms. Moore encouraged me to try and I did. I tried harder and harder every time I came to class, she helped me understand the subject she was teaching clearly. Ms. Moore is very good at what she does, she encourages me and others to reach our goals. I honestly understand much better now than in my years in high school. My experience in this second cycle is much better than the first. I feel more comfortable in class, I am grasping the work well, relating better with my peers and I’m more confident about my self. BY: ALESHCARY MORALES DON’T TELL THEM YOUR DREAMS SHOW THEM I came to the YALP Program in Far Rockaway to better my future. Unfortunately, I did not think High School was the right fit for me because I was getting into so much trouble, I was involved in fights, arguments, and roamed the hallways when I should have been in class getting an education. I feel like the YALP program is a better fit for me because my teacher helps me understand the work that is given. Even though I didn't like High School I still wanted to go to school to further my education,. I’m happy that I made the right decision to continue on with my schooling to become successful. Once I obtain my G.E.D. I plan on going to college to become a registered nurse, because I love taking care of people. BY: HAILEY JOHNSON WHAT A GREAT EXPERIENCE! So far my experience in the YALP Program has taught me a lot and been a great experience. Since back in the days when I was growing up I never knew how to grasp Mathematics. I would always put my head down and missed a lot of basic things that I should have been learning and paying attention to. Now that I am in the YALP program my teacher breaks it down for me and motivates students me to try my best. Ms. Moore encourages us to focus on our education and everything else will fall into place. I realize that Stars can’t shine without darkness and I am officially shining like the star I am.
