Task 1 Script A
Task: 1 - Reference
Learning Outcomes
The learner will:
1. Be able to plan text
for a given task
2. Be able to produce
text for different tasks
- Sentence
Mark
There is evidence of planning and an appropriate degree of
coherence for the middle band, but clear evidence is lacking due to
over-paragraphing and progression that is rather repetitive.
3
Sentence grammar is sufficiently controlled for meaning to remain
clear, but range and accuracy are too limited to justify a middle band
rating on this criterion.
2
Punctuation is used and is generally correct
2. Be able to produce
text for different tasks
- Word
A range of appropriate vocabulary is used effectively, but it is of
insufficient width to justify top band on this criterion. Adjectives are
used at the expense of a wider range.
3
A range of task-appropriate and some lower- frequency words are
spelt correctly, but not with sufficient consistency for the top band.
3. Be able to complete
a form (task one only)
The form is on the whole completed appropriately but the
repetitious nature of the statements limits its effectiveness.

2. Be able to produce text for
different tasks -Sentence
Mark
Evidence of planning is shown through
appropriate degree of coherence, although all of
the information supplied is contained within one
fairly brief paragraph.
Sentence grammar is sufficiently controlled for
meaning to remain clear, ‘you will decide for the
righ person’ but the range is limited, placing the
rating in the lower band on this criterion.
3
2
A limited range of punctuation is used and is
correct.
2. Be able to produce text for
different tasks - Word
Vocabulary used is appropriate to the task.
High-frequency words are not always spelt
correctly ‘verry’, ‘helpfull’, ‘ righ’.
3. Be able to complete a form
(task one only)
On the whole, the form is completed
appropriately, but there is lack of expansion and
the opening formula ‘Hi’ is inappropriate.

You read this article in your local newspaper on which you have made some notes.
Council receives complaints about local teenagers
not all
local people!
The Council has received complaints from residents
about groups of teenagers hanging around in the
town centre.
When interviewed, Ms Travis from the Council said
that local people feel that the town centre is no
longer a safe place to go. One 75-year-old resident
told us, ‘Those teenagers are so noisy and always
causing trouble.’
Ms Travis agreed that groups of teenagers in the
town centre were a problem. ‘Teenagers shouldn’t
be on the streets – there are plenty of other things to
do.’
only chatting/joking
Not true!
You disagree with the views in the article. Using all your notes, write a letter to Ms Travis.
In your letter:
say why you disagree with the views in the article
suggest some activities the Council could organise for teenagers.
Write about 180 words. You do not need to write the address or the date.
Dear Ms Travis,
My name is Julia Malas and I am
resident of our city. I live in town centre
Few days ago I read your article in our
local newspaper and I have to say that
I am x not agree with what is written
there.
I live in town centre, and I know, because
I see it from the window what is happening
out side. You have right It is true that teenagers hanging
around in the town centre during the evenings,
they laugh, talk loudly, and maybe
look strange but they don do not do
anything wrong. They just dox not have
suitable good place to go, to meet, to chat
and enjoy to be together. Even this
75-year-old man who you mentioned
sometimes joking with them. So I am

not agree that all local people complain
about this group of teenagers,
I know people who live wi noo in this
area and we do not have a problem
with teenagers, I think they have
problem because they do not have
any other opp opportunity to go, or
to do. Local council just take care
about places for young children, like
playgrounds but it does not have anything
to offer for older children. That is why
xx teenagers going around town centre
and maybe some people are afraid
of it.
I suggest to turn to counsil to
think about teenagers as well. Maybxx
Maybe they should thin bu do some clubs
with games like bilard, maybe even with
board games, card games, when they could
sit and enjoy being together and playing
something. Perhaps it will be good
to create some skate parks like in
the others towns. Tey They could also
build special wall for more creative
teenagers who like graffiti.
These are only my ideas, but I am
not an expert of it. But my suggest is
stop to complain, stop to judge teenagers
but start to do something.
I am looking forward to see some changes

Task 2 Script C
Task: 2 - Article
Learning Outcomes
The learner will:
1. Be able to plan text
for a given task
2. Be able to produce
text for different tasks
- Text
Mark
Clear evidence of planning is shown through an appropriate degree
of coherence. The top mark is not awarded as planning also involves
working out how much to write and the response is almost twice the
suggested length.
5
The intended audience would be fully informed.
There is clear evidence of ability to adapt text to audience in terms
of register and format. The slight variation in tone in the
penultimate sentence is not considered sufficient to detract from
the highest mark on this criterion.
6
There is clear evidence of ability to organise text into paragraphs
and use a wide range of linking devices appropriately ‘It is true…but’,
‘Even’, ‘so’, ‘just…but’, ‘That is why’, ‘maybe’, ‘perhaps’. Referencing
pronouns ‘it’, ‘they’, ‘with them’ are used effectively.
2. Be able to produce
text for different tasks
- Sentence
Sentence grammar is generally quite well controlled, but it is not
consistently controlled as errors occur in the use of articles and verb
forms.
4
Punctuation is generally used correctly and to good effect, but a
higher degree of consistency would be needed for the top band.
2. Be able to produce
text for different tasks
- Word
A wide range of appropriate vocabulary is used effectively and
naturally ‘look strange’, ‘do anything wrong’, ‘have a problem with
teenagers’, ‘board games, card games’, ‘build special wall for more
creative teenagers who like graffiti’.
A wide range of task-appropriate and lower frequency words are
spelt correctly, but spelling errors obstruct the award of the highest
mark for Word.

Task: 2 - Article
Learning Outcomes
The learner will:
1. Be able to plan text

2. Be able to produce
text for different tasks
- Text
Mark
There is some evidence of planning and a degree of coherence is
achieved, although the purpose of the letter is confused in the
opening two paragraphs and there is no closing formula.
2
The intended audience would only be partially informed due to the
confusion in the earlier part of the letter.
There is some evidence of ability to adapt text to audience in terms
of register and format, but note that, with the closing formula
omitted, the letter format is not retained.
2
There is evidence of ability to organise text into paragraphs and use
linking devices appropriately, although misuse of linking devices
‘than’ places the Text rating in the lower band.
2. Be able to produce
text for different tasks
- Sentence
Although meaning remains clear, sentence grammar is insufficiently
controlled for the lower band of L2. The range is also limited.
0
Punctuation is used, but it is often omitted or is incorrect.
2. Be able to produce
text for different tasks
- Word
Vocabulary used is appropriate to task and there is occasional
evidence of some range ‘CCTV security cameras’, ‘playing video
games’, ‘build a leisure centere’, ‘city competition’.
There is a problem with legibility. Letter formation in which the
writing of the letter ‘o’ often appears as letter ‘a’ causes some
confusion over spelling.
Most task-appropriate words are spelt correctly, but some highfrequency words are incorrectly spelt ‘off ource,’ ‘off cours,’ ‘beeter,’
‘wich’.

As part of your course at college, you have been discussing the impact of technology on our
lives. You have been asked to write an essay for your teacher, describing which type of
technology has had the biggest impact on your life, the advantages and disadvantages of
this technology and saying how you think this technology will develop in the future.
Write your essay.
Write about 250 words.
Impact of technology on our lives
Today I would like to describine which,
type of technology has had the biggest
impact on my life, the advantages and
disadvantages of this technology.
Firstly I would like to tell about
mobile phone which has the biggest impact
on my life. I start use mobile phone
from 13 years, now I’m 24 so that
meen I use it about 11 years now.
For this period I changed a lots
of mobile phones, because every ear year
it develop and getting better and better.
So now inside the phone are you can find everything
that you need: camera, map, internet
xx there you can find any information,
but only 10 years ago thi you could
only phone call and text a massages.
That will be after more 10 years no
Level 2
one nows. To be honest now I can’t
live without mobile phone. Mobile
phone havegot a lots of advantages
like I sead before, but the biggest
disadvantages is that people getting
lazy, they don’t wont go to library
to find information there, they just
put in the mobile phone what information
them need and all done.
Secondly the most important technology xx
for woman now is washinger ma.
Now you don’t have to wash with
your hands full day, you just put
yours clouths in washer and after
1 hours all done. For this technology
I can’t find any disadvantages
because washer really safe a lots of
time and helhtth
In concludion I would like to say
that definetly technology will develop
in the future. And no one nows maybe
after 10 more 10 years people will
not drive on the cars, but will fly
or all homeworks will do for you

robbots. Anyway we don’t have to be
lazy. Everyday we have to improve yourself,
read books, do a sport and don’t
forgot that we can spend nice time
outside just walking in the part
instead watch TV.

Task 3 Script E
Task: 3 - Essay
Learning Outcomes
The learner will:
1. Be able to plan text
for a given task
2. Be able to produce
text for different tasks
- Text
Mark
Some evidence of planning is shown and a degree of coherence is
evident, though reference to advantages, disadvantages and future
aspect within the same paragraph is awkward and there is a lack of
clear progression as required.
2
The intended audience would only be very partially informed as
certain aspects of the question are inadequately discussed and
irrelevant information is included.
There is some evidence of ability to adapt text to audience in terms
of register and format though the tone is occasionally too colloquial
‘all done’ and the register chosen for the final two sentences is not
fully appropriate.
2
There is evidence of ability to organise text into paragraphs, though
sequencing of ideas within the long second paragraph is not very
logical. Linking devices are used appropriately, though not always
correctly, ‘That’.
2. Be able to produce
text for different tasks
- Sentence
Sentence grammar is not always sufficiently controlled for meaning
to remain clear ‘because washer really safe a lots of time and helth’
and grammatical errors are frequent.
1
Punctuation is used, but is not always used correctly, with commas
substituting for full stops.
2. Be able to produce
text for different tasks
- Word
The vocabulary used is generally appropriate to the task.
Task-appropriate words are generally spelt correctly but some highfrequency words are misspelt, ‘that meen,’ ‘nows,’ ‘wont,’ ‘clouths,’
‘In concludion,’ ‘part’.

It is undeniable that technology has been improved
numerously during the last few decads. In my opinion,
the invention of computer has added far more advantages
to our life and less disadvantages to it.
There are many advantages for this technology.
First of all, huge amount of data could be processed
in minutes by this machines, resulting it become
easier to store books and important files in it.
Beside, it has been used in medical field to save
patients lives, such as scan machine to find
the cause of a disease. The most positive point,
I think using it as connector for social media.
For example, I communicate with my family abroad
just like they live with me. As result, it could be
in favour as it is shortness the distance.
Many people may argue that computer has
some disadvantage. Most people have depended
completely on it, so they have used their mind less.
In addition, school children and students in other
Level 2
institution have made less effort in their researches
than before as they can rely on it more which could
cause them many problems such as eye problems and
stress.
Overall, I believe that computer has many
more advantages than disadvantages. In future,
it is expected to have more influence on medical
research, helping in cure more ailments.

1. Be able to plan text
for a given task
2. Be able to produce
text for different tasks
- Text
Mark
Evidence of planning is shown through an appropriate degree of
coherence, but the first and final sections are in need of greater
development.
4
The intended audience would be adequately informed, though not
fully informed due to deficiencies in the first and final sections of the
script.
There is evidence of ability to adapt text to audience in terms of
register and format.
4
There is clear evidence of ability to organise text into paragraphs
and use a range of linking devices appropriately, ‘First of all’, ‘The
most positive point, I think’, ‘For example’, ‘Overall’, though not
always accurately ‘Beside’. Referencing pronouns ‘it’, ‘they’, ‘them’
are effectively used.
2. Be able to produce
text for different tasks
- Sentence
Sentence grammar is generally controlled, but it is not consistently
controlled as errors occur when more ambitious language is
attempted ‘resulting it become’, ‘The most positive point, I think
using it…’.
4
Punctuation is generally used correctly and to good effect.
2. Be able to produce
text for different tasks
- Word
Quite a wide range of vocabulary is used effectively, but it does not
quite reach the top band as natural use is sometimes lacking
‘improved numerously’, ‘shortness the distance’, ‘in other
institution’.
A fairly wide range of task-appropriate and lower frequency words
are spelt correctly.
