PRAYER AT THE SIXTH HOUR Now when the sixth hour had come, there was darkness over the whole land. Wednesday in Passion Week April 12, 2017 † We gather before God in silence. Blessed is our God, always, now and ever, and unto ages of ages! All: AMEN! O Lord, open our lips: And our mouth shall proclaim your praise. Let your ways be known upon earth: Your saving power among the nations. Blessed are You, Lord God of our salvation, to You be praise and glory forever. As a Man of sorrows and acquainted with grief, Your only Son was lifted up that He might draw the whole world to Himself. May we walk this day in the way of the cross and always be ready to share its weight, declaring Your love for all the world. Blessed be God, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Blessed be God forever! MARK 15:33 Ah, Holy Jesus, How Hast Thou Offended A Song of Lamentation from the Book of Lamentations Is it nothing to you, all you who pass by? Look and see if there is any sorrow like my sorrow, Which was brought upon me, which the Lord inflicted on the day of His fierce anger. For these things I weep; my eyes flow with tears; for a comforter is far from me, one to revive my courage. Remember my affliction and my bitterness, the wormwood and the gall! But this I call to mind, and therefore I have hope: The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases, His mercies never come to an end; They are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness. “The Lord is my portion,” says my soul, “therefore I will hope in Him.” The Lord is good to those who wait for Him, to the soul that seeks Him. It is good that we should wait quietly for the salvation of the Lord. For the Lord will not reject forever; though He causes grief, He will have compassion. Psalm 143 Hear my prayer, O Lord; give ear to my pleas for mercy! In Your faithfulness answer me, in Your righteousness! Enter not into judgment with Your servant, for no one living is righteous before You. For the enemy has pursued my soul; he has crushed my life to the ground; he has made me sit in darkness like those long dead. Therefore my spirit faints within me; my heart within me is appalled. I remember the days of old; I meditate on all that You have done; I ponder the work of Your hands. I stretch out my hands to You; my soul thirsts for You like a parched land. Answer me quickly, O Lord! My spirit fails! Hide not Your face from me, lest I be like those who go down to the pit. Let me hear in the morning of Your steadfast love, for in You I trust. Make me know the way I should go, for to You I lift up my soul. Deliver me from my enemies, O Lord! I have fled to You for refuge. Teach me to do Your will, for You are my God! Let Your good Spirit lead me on level ground! For Your Name’s sake, O Lord, preserve my life! In Your righteousness bring my soul out of trouble! And in Your steadfast love You will cut off my enemies, and you will destroy all the adversaries of my soul, for I am your servant. Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, both now and ever, and unto ages of ages. Amen. Psalm 70 Response Blessed are the meek: For they shall inherit the earth. MATTHEW 5:5 Meditation Prayers of God’s People All are welcome to offer intercessions. Departing prayer O Lord and Master of my life! Take from me the spirit of sloth, faintheartedness, lust of power, and idle talk. But give rather the spirit of chastity, humility, patience, and love to Thy servant. Yea, O Lord and King! Grant me to see my own faults, and not to judge my brother; For blessed art Thou unto ages of ages. Amen. May the Lord give strength to his people! May the Lord bless his people with peace! PSALM 29:11 The peace of God which surpasses all understanding guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Amen.
