HIGHLIGHTS
This year’s Annual Fall Meeting will be held at the
Moody Gardens Hotel & Spa in Galveston, TX. Thank
you to local hosts Michael G. Wilkerson, MD and
Sharon S. Raimer, MD for developing the CME program,
meeting events and the patient viewings.
Accreditation Statement
This activity has been planned and implemented in
accordance with Essential Areas and Policies of the
Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education
(ACCME) through the joint sponsorship of Scott & White
and the Texas Dermatological Society. Scott & White is
accredited by the ACCME to provide continuing medical
education for physicians.
Scott & White designates this educational activity for a
maximum of 10.5 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™.
Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the
extent of their participation in the activity.
Ethics: The presentation “Organizational Ethics
in Healthcare – A Dermatologists Perspective”
on Saturday, October 5th fulfills 1 hour of the ethics/
professional responsibility hour required for Texas
licensure.
Registration
Advance registration for the meeting and for all social
events is important. The deadline for advance registration
is September 12th to ensure participation in social
events and meal functions. TDS must receive notice
of cancellation for refund postmarked no later than
September 12th. A $25 fee will be deducted from the
registration fee paid to cover processing charges. Nonattendance does not constitute notice of cancellation.
Target Audience
The target audience is dermatologists, dermatological
surgeons, pediatric dermatologists and residents in
dermatology. Educational Methods used will include
lectures, resident presentations, and case presentations.

Awards Presentation
Everyone is welcome to attend the business meeting,
but only Active, Associate, Affiliate, Honorary and Life
members of TDS may vote. The business luncheon will
held on Saturday, October 5, 2013.

Drawings!

cost of this meeting low for attendees. TDS will host door
prize drawings for those of you who visit the exhibitors.

TDS has gone green!
This year we will be posting all of the lectures to the TDS
website that we receive prior to the meeting. You can now
print your own lectures prior to arriving on-site at the meeting.
If you would still like to receive the paper syllabus on-site,
make sure to mark it on your registration form.
Support Your Future Partner
To encourage resident attendance, TDS offers travel stipends
to offset the travel and lodging costs for residents to attend the
meeting. Please consider donating $25 to this fund. Donors
will be acknowledged in the TDS newsletter and with special
ribbons at the meeting.

Aquarium Pyramid® — The towering blue pyramid – the
largest of three – houses a diverse display of life from four
distinct ocean environments. The chilly South Atlantic exhibit
showcases five species of penguins and the North Pacific
houses playful fur seals and Squirt, the famous blind sea lion.
The South Pacific exhibit features beautiful coral reefs and
an array of colorful fishes. The Caribbean, the largest exhibit
in the Aquarium Pyramid®, has sharks, sea turtles, eels and
thousands of beautiful tropical fish that swim overhead as you
navigate through an underwater tunnel completely surrounded
by the exhibit’s over one-million gallons of water.
The Aquarium Pyramid® also offers guests the opportunity
to interact with ocean life, including group educational
opportunities in underwater classrooms, touch tanks and
the chance to meet a penguin up close with the Penguin
Encounter.
Rainforest Pyramid® — The 10-story glass pyramid is now
open after a major enhancement project that enables you
to see the Rainforests of the World in a whole new way. In
addition to a new entry overlooking a new giant Amazon
River otter exhibit, a tree-top path leads you through the
canopy level of the pyramid where you can explore the
exhibit from a new vantage point to see the monkeys,
sloths and the other free-roaming tree dwellers closer than
ever before. The canopy walkway also features a butterfly
exhibit that immerses you among several beautiful species of
butterflies.
The lower level of the exhibit puts you in the center of
Asian, African and American rainforests, where you are
joined by some new friends. Come experience life at
this unique, interactive exhibit in an authentic rainforest
environment, found only at Moody Gardens®.
MG 3D Theater — Enjoy larger-than-life films that fill your
peripheral vision combined with superb sound to provide
you with the best seat in the house. Slip on your 3D glasses
to see incredible realistic three-dimensional images as they
are projected onto a giant six-story screen – the largest in
Texas – so lifelike that you’ll want reach out to grab them.
Ridefilm – Strap on your seatbelt and hold on for an
incredible experience! Ridefilm technology offers the
ultimate in high-impact, immersive simulation. Each
18-passenger ride is surrounded by a seamless 180°
wraparound screen that fully encompasses each viewer’s
peripheral vision. High quality images and awesome sound
combine to make you a part of the action.
4D Special FX Theater — See, hear, feel and smell the
action! Hi-def digital 3D projection, audio and show control
systems combined with special effects, such as wind, smoke,
mist, leg ticklers, seat buzzers and SFX lighting and DTS
surround sound system immerse you in a unique short-film
theater experience that is a thrill for all ages.
Colonel Paddlewheel Boat — Enjoy gulf breezes on a
45-minute cruise around Offats Bayou on this 800-passenger
authentic 1800’s replica paddlewheel boat. The Colonel
Paddlewheel Boat sails daily from the Moody Gardens®
dock and hosts weekend dinner cruises.
Discovery Museum — Featuring JAM Remastered:
The Science of Music! This interactive exhibit highlights
the science and math behind music, from sound waves
to acoustics, and provides guests with a very hands-on
experience.
Palm Beach — Now you can delight in the major
enhancements that have been made to Galveston’s only
white sand beach! You and your family will love the lazy
river, 18-foot tower slides, wave pool, and educational KonTiki theme that were added to the attraction in 2011.

Hey Residents!
Resident Housing Stipend
The TDS offers a generous housing stipend to all residents who
attend the meeting. Each resident who applies for the stipend
will be presented with a housing stipend reimbursement form
upon check-in. This form should be filled out and returned to
the TDS registration table or business office within a week of
the meeting. Each resident will have one night reimbursed in
host hotel, or an equivalent hotel.
Resident Podium and Poster
Competition
The Resident Podium Competition will take place from 1:10
p.m. – 3:00 p.m. on Friday, October 4. The residents competing
in this competition will be eligible for one of three awards: 1st
place and $500, 2nd place and $300 or 3rd place and $200.
The Resident Poster Competition will take place all day on
Friday, October 4. The posters will be judged throughout the
day on Friday, you do not have to be present at your board to
win. The residents competing in this competition will be up for
one of three awards: 1st place and $500, 2nd place and $300 or
3rd place and $200.
All winners will be announced at the business luncheon that
will take place on Saturday, October 5th. You do not have to
be present to win.

Resident Panel
“What I wish I would’ve known upon
graduation”
The Resident Round Table panel will be held on Friday,
October 4 from 11am – 12:30pm at the Moody Gardens
Hotel in the Vine Room. Come join your fellow TDS
resident members and selected active TDS members for
a casual, round table discussion. Topics to be discussed
are as follows: establishing a practice, marketing and
community outreach, staying out of debt, generating
income, Medicare billing, hiring the right staff, and so
many more!
Live Patient Viewings
The Patient Viewings will take place at UTMB on the
morning of October 5th. There will be a chartered bus
to take attendees from Moody Gardens to UTMB and
back. Please meet in the general session ballroom foyer on
Saturday morning to travel to the live viewings.
A to-go breakfast will be available in the ballroom foyer
beginning at 7AM.
Attendees will then return to Moody Gardens – patient
viewing discussions will begin at 10 AM.
