our var ious Sest ina Singer s and Pl ayer s t o our for t hcoming event s and I
l ook for war d t o seeing you at some of our r ecit al s. Mar k Chamber s and
Paul a Chat eauneuf begin t he season wit h an invit at ion-onl y r ecit al (t o
which you ar e al l invit ed) of Venet ian Song in Dubl in, Ar magh and
Bel fast (18t h t o 20t h Mar ch) as a pr el ude t o our major Venet ian Fest ival
aft er East er in t he same venues. List en out for Mar k and Paul a on t he
IN TUNE Radio 3 br oadcast fr om t he MAC in Bel fast on 17t h Mar ch.
The Venet ian Fest ival wil l be magical . As usual , t he Sest inas wil l be
ment or ed by special ist s al l week and t hen on t he weekend of Apr il 10t h,
t her e wil l be a ser ies of cour ses for youngst er s r un by Lucia Ver non
Long cul minat ing in music composed by t he chil dr en. Ther e wil l be
mask-making, puppet eer ing, st r eet t heat r e and madr igal composing!

even Mr . Chamber s, and Paul a wil l be put t ing on anot her show. Al l t his

Concer t on t he Char l es Wood Fest ival and Summer School in Ar magh
Cat hedr al on 23r d. August , 2015 which al so host s t he Nor t her n Ir el and
Int er nat ional Or gan Compet it ion. Fol l owing t hat wonder ful event ,
Sest ina r enews it s associat ion wit h Tom Gut hr ie and joins Johannes
Leer t ouwer (viol in) in our Sept ember pr ogr amme of wor ks by JS Bach, again
in Dubl in, Ar magh and Bel fast . This pr ogr amme is, in par t , a pr epar at ion
for t hr ee st aged per for mances of t he St . John Passion in t hose venues in
our East er ser ies of 2016, which wil l be an ext r aor dinar y exper ience for
Sest inas and audience al ike. A wonder ful ser ies of pr ogr ammes indeed!!.

Aaron O’Hare has been a par t of t he Oper a Nor t h/RNCM ment or
scheme and is about t o sing t he r ol e of Demet r ius in RNCM’s
pr oduct ion of Br it t en’s A Midsumme r Nig h t ’s D r e am. He has cover ed
Mar cel l o in Nevil l Hol t Oper a’s La Bo h e me , Papageno in NI Oper a’s
Th e Mag ic Fl u t e and pl ayed Bogdanovit ch in Th e Me r r y Wido w. He
wil l be per for ming at t he Buxt on Oper a Fest ival t his summer .
Laura Lamph now l ives in London wor king as a fr eel ance singer wit h
Pol yphony dir ect ed by St ephen Leight on, Phil har monia Voices dir ect ed
by Aidan Ol iver and Br it t en Sinfonia Voices dir ect ed by Eamonn
Dougan. She’s a member of Chamber Choir Ir el and, dir ect ed by Paul
Hil l ier and r ecent l y became an ad-hoc member of The Sixt een. A huge

Brian McAlea was awar ded a schol ar ship for a Mast er s in Vocal
Per for mance at t he Guil dhal l School of Music and Dr ama st ar t ing in
Sept ember . He per for med as Pane and Giove in La C al ist o wit h New
Chamber Oper a, in t he Ar c h ang e l Suit e in St John's Smit h Squar e,
London wit h t he Royal Phil har monic, as Dr . P in Michael Nyman's Th e
Man Wh o Mist o o k His Wif e Fo r A Hat and sung in t he Oxfor d Lieder
Fest ival .
David Lee has had a busy year singing at t he pr oms wit h t he Ul st er
Yout h Choir , accept ing a pl ace t o st udy wit h a chor al schol ar ship at
King’s Col l ege, London and becoming a member of Al l t he King's Men.
He wil l sing Liset t a in Haydn's Il Mo ndo de l l a Luna t his Mar ch.
Sinead O’Kelly cont inues t o do wonder ful t hings making her
pr ofessional debut singing Fir st Lady in NI Oper a’s Th e Mag ic Fl ut e
and singing in IBO's Me ssiah t our . She commenced t he Mast er s
pr ogr amme at t he Royal Col l ege of Music on a ful l schol ar ship and t ook
par t in a l ive br oadcast Mast er cl ass wit h Sar ah Connol l y. She was
sel ect ed as a BBCNI/NI Ar t s Council awar d hol der and made her sol o
debut at t he Royal Fest ival Hal l and t he Wigmor e. Hal l She wil l make
her Royal Al ber t Hal l debut in t he r ol e of Per sephone for t he wor l d
pr emier e of John Bar ber 's new oper a, Se ve ns Se e ds t his season.
Fiona Flynn has had a busy year singing t he r ol es of Bar bar ina in Le
No zze di Fig ar o , The Voice of t he Dawn in Puccini’s La R o ndine and La
Dame Él egant e in Poul enc’s Le s Mame l l e s de Tir e sias at t he Al exander
Gibson Oper a St udio. She has al so sung in Mozar t ’s Me sse in C mino r at
St . Mar y’s Cat hedr al , Gl asgow and in a per for mance of Mahl er ’s
Symph o ny No .8 wit h t he Royal Scot t ish Nat ional Or chest r a at Gl asgow
Royal Concer t Hal l and in The Usher hal l in Edinbur gh.
Emer Acton is singing Mar cel l ina in Le No zze di Fig ar o for t he
Dur ham Oper a Ensembl e and has been singing wit h her univer sit y chapel
choir in Dur ham. Laura McFall is just back fr om a week’s Kodal y
cour se in Budapest and has st ar t ed wor king for Live Music Now.
Toget her wit h her accompanist , t hey have per for med many concer t s as
‘Voice and Ver se’ and wil l soon be per for ming in t he Guil dhal l and
Chr ist Chur ch in L/Der r y. She al so sung in NI Oper a’s Th e Mag ic
Fl u t e and wil l sing in t heir upcoming pr oduct ion of Puccini’s
Tur ando t . Michael Hong has been singing as a chor al schol ar at St .
Geor ges, Bel fast and has accept ed pl aces wit h t he Ul st er Yout h Choir
and t he Nat ional Yout h Tr aining Choir . He al so won t he Junior
Reper t oir e pr ize and bur sar y at Bal l ymena Fest ival and was a final ist in
t he over al l junior U18 vocal pr ize. Wel l done Michael ! Matthew Long
wil l be singing wit h us in Apr il and has just r el eased his fir st sol o al bum
cal l ed Til l t h e St ar s Fal l .
We’ve added some new member s; Glenn Murphy who has been singing
wit h t he UCD Chor al Schol ar s for t he past 4 year s and is cur r ent l y
pr epar ing t o r ecor d wit h t hem for Signum Recor ds. Sarah Rennix is
now an educat ion officer for t he Sixt een and we wil l be joined in Apr il
by ot her newcomer s Matt Keighley, David Walsh and Rich Moore,
a col l eague of Aar on's fr om t he Royal Nor t her n Col l ege of Music.
Caroline Jones has had a busy year t eaching in t he Causeway School of
Music, Col er aine, in Bel l aghy Pr imar y and as a t ut or of Kodal y
musicianship wit h t he Bel fast Phil Kids. She wil l be singing as t he
sopr ano sol oist in Ar magh Cit y Choir ’s per for mance of Mozar t ’s
R e q uie m in Apr il .
