This study guide was developed to outline the rules for the
History competition and to give you an idea of how things
will run the day of the event. The best way to prepare is to
review the history text used in your schools. The questions in
this booklet are just samples. If you have any questions,
don’t hesitate to contact the person listed on the front of the
booklet.
Three history areas will be covered:
 Presidential/Government History
 Maryland Facts
 Cultural Events
The Championship Round will focus on Current Events
CONTEST RULES:
This contest will consist of Preliminary, Semi-Final and
Championship rounds, with moderators leading each round.
In the Preliminary Round, student contestants will receive
points for each correct answer. At the end of the Preliminary
Round, the first six students with the most points will move
to the Semi-Final Round. In the Semi-Final Round, students
are asked questions and allowed to miss only one question to
stay in the competition. In the Championship Round,
students are eliminated upon missing the answer to one
question.
A panel of judges will monitor each round both for accuracy
in questions and answers, and to handle other issues that
arise.
