RoSPA’s investment in
its people has resulted
in a skilled, loyal and
engaged team.
• RoSPA has been an Investors in People organisation for 14 years and they now join the small proportion of
organisations that have achieved the Gold standard.
• RoSPA strengthens RoSPA Academy (Junior Management Academy Programme)

RoSPA’s overarching strategy, which is

What was the impact?
Numerous improvements have been
evidenced including in
communications across the
organisation as Tracey explains.
"We’ve been taking steps to improve
the communications flow, encouraging
everyone to contribute and provide
feedback on what RoSPA is doing.
Some of the changes include the
introduction of a welfare committee,
employee surveys and also lunch
seminars where different departments
showcase their work." These initiatives
are in addition to focus groups and
lunches for small groups of people
hosted by the Chief Executive.
The organisation's annual appraisal
process has also been improved along
with increased training provisions and
the strengthening of the RoSPA
Academy (junior management
development programme) and the
RoSPA Encomium (employee
recognition scheme).
Tom Mullarkey, RoSPA’s Chief
Executive, adds, “For the past few
years in RoSPA, we have been on a
journey together - to try to make the
very best of our charity and its
employees, for the benefit of the
people we serve. We bring to our
work the passion, belief and
commitment in which, largely unseen
by our ‘audience’, we help to keep
every man, woman and child in this
country free from the misery and
trauma of unintended injury and death
- which devastates families and
communities.
"Investors in People has shared this
journey with us, acting as both critical
friend and cheerleader. It is simply
marvellous to have our achievements
as a team recognised externally by
them. We could not have done this
without the superb contribution of our
HR team, led by Tracey Mansell, and
every single member of the team at
RoSPA, who also deserve a collective
pat on the back.”
Key fact summary
•
Excellent employee
engagement.
• Loyal, engaged and
committed team.
• Shared understanding of
mission and goals.
How has IIP helped?
RoSPA is working with an Investors in
People Specialist Betty Bullock from
emb-x, the organisation that delivers
the Standard across Central England.
Betty adds "RoSPA's ongoing
commitment to investing in its people
has resulted in a skilled, loyal and
engaged team that fully understands
and contributes to the organisation's
goals."
Working with Investors in People has
fuelled greater employee engagement
and generated a real sense of
cohesion, says Tracey. "Everyone is
working towards the same goal and
people have an opportunity to play an
active part in our activities, outside of
their own department, with the
responsibility to make decisions as part
of this."
There is a strong commitment to
RoSPA's mission from the employees
and Tracey says it was really
encouraging that this commitment and
understanding came across so strongly
during the Reviews. "It was great to
have this reinforced by an independent
third party and we are definitely
looking to build upon this commitment
and understanding of our mission in
the future.”
