The
2012
Empire
Girls
State
began
with
365
new
citizens
arriving
at
Brockport
Collage
June
24,
2012.
After
everyone
got
unpacked,
met
our
roommates,
housemothers
and
counselors,
we
had
our
first
county
meeting
and
then
proceeded
to
the
dining
hall
to
fill
our
bellies
and
get
to
know
each
other
better.
We
then
walked
to
the
Courtyard
for
the
first
flag
lowering
ceremony
with
Albright
County
setting
the
bar
with
a
very
nice
ceremony.
We
then
made
our
way
to
Edwards
for
the
Opening
Ceremony,
hearing
365
new
citizens
recite
the
Girls
State
Pledge
was
the
highlight
of
the
ceremony.
Walking
back
in
the
rain
wasn’t
that
bad
and
after
getting
comfortable
we
had
a
county
meeting
to
elect
our
county
leaders,
our
committee
representatives.

we
brainstormed
“hot
topics”
relevant

our
different
committees
which
will
be
incorporated
into
the
two
bills
that
each
committee
is
required
to
write.
Following
lunch
it
was
back
to
our
dorms
for
a
county
meeting
to
elect
our
County
Senators
and
our
County
officers.

sleep

take
on
the
first
full

Empire
Girls
State
(who
is
trying
to
kid
who
about
getting
a
good
night’s
sleep?)
As
the
courtyard
began
filling
up
with
citizens
many
of
them
learned
to
“ride
the
pony”
a
traditional
past
time
of
EGS.
Once
everyone
was
there
the
flag
raising
ceremony
was
conducted
by
Ride

then
into
Edwards
for
the
General
session.

After

Claire
was
very
exciting
to
listen
to
as
she
told
us
how
attending
Girls
Nation
changed
her
career
path.
While
at
Girls
Nation
she
was
able
to
visit
veterans
at
Walter
Reed’s
Hospital
and
learned
about
Nesse
Godin,
a
Holocaust
survivor
which
convinced
her
that
she
needed
to
do
something
she
didn’t
plan
on,
she
joined
the
Air
Force
ROTC.
After
dinner
we
again
made
our
way
to
the
courtyard
for
this
evening’s
flag
lowering
ceremony
conducted
by
Anthony
County
and
then
back
into
our
new
2nd
home
EDWARDS
this
time
for
our
Party
Caucuses
and
the
election
of
the
two
Party
Leaders.
The
Party
Advisors,
Susan
Olsen
and
Kris
Dziduch
opened
the
meeting
and
appointed
the
Party
Secretary
based
on
resumes
received
during
the
day.
