Officer Duties, Expectations, & Responsibilities
Chapter officers serve a vital role in our organization. The following are general duties expected of all
officers:









Attend all chapter meetings. Arrive 30 minutes early.
Attend all officer/ executive meetings, as well as district FFA meetings.
Attend officer retreats and training sessions.
Attend district and area convention
Attend State FFA Convention.
Wear official dress as needed.
Be on time to all activities.
Know your parts in Official FFA Ceremonies.
Be committed to your position and work and communicate with others on your team.

Be willing to accept responsibility and be honest

Have a sincere desire to work with all chapter members in meeting their leadership, personal and
chapter goals.

Lead by example: no drinking of alcohol or use of tobacco products; be in good standing with grades;
be a good leader in and out of the classroom; do not have discipline issues

Have a knowledge and understanding of the chapter, state and national FFA constitutions and bylaws.

Have a working knowledge of parliamentary procedure.



Read FFA publications, ie. New Horizons.
Show interest, alertness, and proper attitude by volunteering to do your share of the work.
Have a good personality, morals, honesty and good manners

Live by the FFA Code of Ethics.
Have poise and confidence – Speak up!
Be patient.
Give credit where credit is due.
Devote a part of each school week to your officer duties.
Carry out all duties of your specific office.
Be willing to discuss any problems or concerns with the advisors at any time!
Recruit new members.
Participate in all SPHS FFA fundraisers
Participate in one LDE event
Participate in one CDE event

President
1. Preside over meetings and the FFA banquet according to accepted rules of parliamentary procedure.
2. Coordinate the activities of the chapter and evaluate the progress of each division of the Program of
Activities.
3. Work with officers to determine meeting dates and times.
4. Coordinate officer meetings and retreats as needed with appropriate people.
5. Serve as a facilitator for officer and chapter discussions.
6. Assist other officers in completing their responsibilities and delegate responsibilities to officer team.
7. In charge of coordinating revisions of the chapter constitution, if needed.
8. Communicate clearly with entire officer team and the advisors.
9. Lead by example and work with your TEAM.
Vice President
1. Assume all duties of the president if necessary.
2. Develop the Program of Activities.
3. Coordinate all committee work.
4. Work closely with the president and advisor to assess progress toward meeting chapter goals.
5. Establish and maintain a chapter resource file.
6. Make sure all committees have completed reports after each meeting.
7. Have committee reports available to hand out at the beginning of each FFA meeting so that committee
reports may be given.
8. Communicate clearly with entire officer team and the advisors.

Secretary
1. Prepare and post the agenda for each chapter meeting.
2. Prepare and present the minutes of each chapter meeting.
3. Place all committee reports in the designated area in the Official FFA Chapter Secretary's Book.
4. Be responsible for chapter correspondence.
5. Maintain member attendance
6. Have on hand for each meeting:
a. Official FFA Chapter Secretary's Book including minutes of the previous meeting.
b. Copy of the Program of Activities including all standing and special committees.
c. Official FFA Manual and Student Handbook.
d. Copies of the chapter constitution and bylaws.
7. Communicate clearly with entire officer team and the advisors.
8. Lead by example and work with your TEAM.
Treasurer
1. Receive record and deposit FFA funds and issue receipts when possible.
2. Maintain both written and electronic activity balance sheets.
3. Present monthly treasurer's reports at chapter meetings.
4. Maintain a neat and accurate Official FFA Chapter Treasurer's Book.
5. Prepare and submit the membership roster and dues to the National FFA Organization in cooperation
with the secretary.
6. Work with the advisor and chapter officers with the FFA chapter budget.
7. Co-Chair the Chapter Finance subcommittee and work with all fundraising activities
8. Communicate clearly with entire officer team and the advisors.
9. Lead by example and work with your TEAM.
Reporter
1. Work with Advisors to release news and information to local and regional news media.
2. Serve as the chapter photographer.
3. Be a member of chapter banquet committee
4. Help develop the slide show for the FFA banquet
5. Take pictures at all FFA events or activities.
6. Update chapter’s social media outlets using best practices in media literacy and social media
correctness and etiquette.
7. Communicate clearly with entire officer team and the advisors.
8. Lead by example and work with your TEAM.
Sentinel
1. Assist the president in maintaining order.
2. Keep the meeting room, chapter equipment and supplies in proper condition.
3. Welcome guests and visitors. In charge of getting ushers and courtesy corps for chapter banquet
4. Keep the meeting room comfortable.
5. Assist with special features and refreshments for meetings.
6. Arrange for 1 guest speaker per semester.
7. Make arrangements for a meeting place for each meeting.
8. Set up the meeting room and clean-up the meeting room for each meeting.
9. Communicate clearly with entire officer team and the advisors.
10. Lead by example and work with your TEAM.
