Saturday, 25th June 2016 14:30h Rheinfelden I think we have all heard of that 11th century family, the Zähringers, who were a noble family from Freiburg im Breisgau and whose influence extended to Switzerland until they died out in the 13th century. They had a habit of building towns in places of economic and political importance and were enlightened rulers, establishing a central administration but allowing each town a great degree of freedom. To this day their stamp can be seen in the cities they founded, notably Bern, Thun, Burgdorf, Fribourg, Morges, Murten and also Rheinfelden, the oldest. On this guided tour of the old town we will be given an insight into this past and be shown the numerous interesting buildings, especially the town hall, together with an account of their significance and history. We meet in front of the Rathaus. By car you take the exit Rheinfelden West, there is the Rheinparking and other public car parks. Arriving by train you walk down Bahnhofstrasse and turn right at the end along Marktgasse.
