Piecewise Function Video Project Goal

Piecewise
Function
Video Project
Goal
Create a professional and creative video that informs the audience of what a piecewise function is and fully explains how to graph an example that you created. Phase One – Creating the Function
Create your original piecewise function. The function MUST include at LEAST 3 “pieces”. Choose pieces from three DIFFERENT sets of function families. You may choose from the following list: 1. Constant Function (horizontal line) 2. Linear Function 3. Quadratic Function 4. Cubic Function* 5. Radical Function* 6. Absolute Value Function* Once you create your function, sketch a rough draft of the graph. Note that choosing one of the starred functions will result in an above standard rating.
Phase Two – Creating the Video
Create a video that fully describes what a piecewise function is and how to graph the example you created. Requirements in the video: 1. Define piecewise functions. 2. Presentation of your piecewise function example and description of how to interpret the notation. Fully explain how the domain determines where the function rule applies. 3. Graph of each “piece” of the function. Include very specific details about each piece – including what type of function it is, how you found key points for the graph, what the key points are, etc. Creative Ideas

1. Rough Draft (due Thursday 4/17!) a. Your function b. Your graph c. Your idea for the video 2. Final Video (due the week after Spring Break!) a. Between 2-‐4 minutes long b. All expectations from Phase Two are met c. Messaged to Ms. Hahn at [email protected] The project will be in partners. You will receive an individual grade based on your contribution. You will be asked to justify this contribution. This project will count as ½ of a test grade. The other ½ will be an assessment on Piecewise Functions. Remember to balance professionalism and creativity!
