Step Two: Write your three sentences of evidence that support your big idea.
Step Three: Write your final sentence which closes the paragraph by restating the first
sentence.
Example Paragraph:
Maria Isabel is shy. She is shy because she does not tell the teacher that she
wants to be called Maria Isabel instead of Mary. She is also shy because she doesn't
talk to Johnathan or Tony while the others are practicing for the pagent. Finally, she is
shy because she doesn't tell Clara about her teacher calling her Mary. In conclusion,
Maria Isabel is shy in the book My Name is Maria Isabel.
Step One: Write a sentence saying how our character changed from the beginning to the end (using
character traits)
Step Two: Write one example for how our character was in the beginning.
Step Three: Write one example for how our character was in the end.
Step Four: Explain why the character changed.
Step 5: Closing sentence which restates the first sentence.
Example Paragraph:
Maria Isabel changed over the course of the book from being very shy in the beginning, to having
confidence by the end. In the beginning of the book Maria Isabel was shy because she didnʼt tell her
teacher to call her by her real name and she didnʼt tell her friends or family the problem that was going on.
At the end of the story, Maria Isabel is confident because she writes an essay to her teacher and gets on
stage to sing a solo. She changed because she found the strength to stand up for herself and say what she
really wanted. Maria Isabel changes in the book My Name is Maria Isabel.
