Dear Candidate:
We appreciate your interest in representing the student body of the East Campus.
SGA provides many opportunities for leadership, including involvement at the
local, district and state levels of the organization. The SGA consists of the
Executive Board and Senators that serve as the chairs of committees whose
members (representatives) plan and carry out the activities of the association.
SGA is considered an important resource for both students and staff.
The Valencia College Student Government Association (SGA) is the official voice of the
student body in matters relating to the college’s administration.
• SGA is a vital link in the college’s endeavors to ensure positive learning
environment for our student body.
• Each year the organization plans a wide variety of programs and activities designed
to enhance campus life as well as support college-sponsored programs.
The college believes that leadership development is one of the most important
competencies of a Valencia graduate and offers many programs and resources to
support you. This is an important commitment that requires dedication and a
desire to serve your campus community. We’re proud to have you considering
becoming a member of the East Campus Student Government Association and

SGA APPOINTED OFFICERS
Executive Board Positions:
Chief of Staff: shall be responsible for overseeing the senators; shall communicate and provide reports
to the President on the senators’ activities; shall assist the senators with their responsibilities as needed
Executive Secretary: shall serve as the recording and corresponding secretary, maintain an accurate
and official record of all SGA activities including communications, actions, meeting minutes, and
correspondence, take attendance at all SGA meetings and maintain attendance records, create and
maintain a database of new and existing SGA members and officers
Treasurer: shall be responsible for overseeing all SGA accounts and keep accurate records; shall
approve expenditures from the SGA accounts to the Advisor
Senator Positions:
Senator of Campus Activities: shall assist in the development, supervision and evaluation of student
activities and cultural activities and programs
Senator for Campus Relations: shall maintain and accurate history of the year through pictures and
reflections; create a portfolio, scrapbook and exemplary practice board
Senator for Community Relations: shall assist in the development, supervision and evaluation of
matters relating to: community service projects and programs for involvement by SGA members
Senator of Legislative Affairs: shall work with local and state organizations to promote awareness of
legislative issues that may impact students
Senator for Marketing and Advertising: shall assist in the development, supervision and evaluation of
matters relating to: the creation and development of marketing and promotional materials for SGA
activities and events
Senator of Social Media: shall create and maintain SGA Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and other social
media
Appointments will be chosen through an interview process.
The interview committee will be comprised of the newly elected Officers, a Valencia student,
the SGA Advisor and a Faculty or Staff member.

RULES AND PROCEDURES FOR APPLICANTS
The following information is provided for you as an explanation of SGA application rules and
procedures. PLEASE READ ALL OF THE INFORMATION CAREFULLY. Any questions regarding the
application should be referred to Deanne Abrams, Assistant Director of Student Development at East
Campus Bldg 5, room 212.
CANDIDACY APPLICATION
A candidacy application is included in this packet. Anyone seeking an appointed position in SGA must
complete this candidacy application and return it to the Student Development Office East Campus
Bldg. 5, room 212 by Friday, March 10, 2017.
QUALIFICATIONS OF CANDIDATES
1. A candidate for office must have a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 2.5 if running for an
Executive Board position and a 2.0 if running for a senator position, on all work attempted at
Valencia College. All members of the Executive Board must maintain at least a 2.5 term by term
cumulative grade point average (GPA) while serving in office. All senators must maintain at
least a 2.0 term by term cumulative grade point average (GPA) while serving in office.
Must also have no unresolved “I” incomplete grades and not have withdrawn from 50% of classes
enrolled.

A candidate for any office must register for and maintain the following depending on his/her
home campus:
East, Osceola and/or West Campus Students- at least 2 courses (6 hours) during the Fall and
Spring terms.
Lake Nona and/or Winter Park Students- at least 1 course (3 hours) during the Fall and Spring
terms.
3.
Term of office will be one year. Term becomes effective on May 1st
