Bristol’s most prestigious banqueting and conference venue The Merchants’ Hall The Society of Merchant Venturers The Merchant Venturers’ story has been threaded through the history of Bristol for 450 years. They ran the Port of Bristol from the beginning of the 17th century until the opening of the Floating Harbour in 1809. Their deep involvement in the achievements of the city can be traced from their support of John Cabot’s voyage to the New World to the financing of the Great Western Railway, the SS Great Britain and the Clifton Suspension Bridge. Over time and as its commercial influence waned, the Society has concentrated on charitable causes. Today this focuses on supporting education and caring for older people. The Merchants’ Hall The magnificent rooms at the Merchants’ Hall are still used by the Society of Merchant Venturers for their meetings, receptions and banquets. This is Bristol’s most glamorous venue, offering a unique atmosphere and elegant and versatile rooms. A beautiful mansion overlooking Clifton Down, the Hall can be offered as a complete package with all rooms available for use. Alternatively, individual rooms can be hired for smaller corporate events and meetings. We can tailor make a package for your specific event to meet your exact needs. The Hall hire charge is competitive and includes the services of our butler and the use of the Merchants’ silver table pieces for grand dinners and banquets. A dedicated event manager will be on hand to support daytime meetings and events. Our doorman is also available at an additional cost to meet The Merchants’ Hall and greet your guests on arrival should this be required. We work with a range of specialist partners to support events, including AV and presentation equipment providers. Our catering providers will cater for a range of requirements from light sandwich lunches to fine dining alternatives. The Conference Room Situated on the ground floor at the front of the building, the Conference Room is lit by two imposing chandeliers. Its furnishings include a Steinway piano and many fine paintings. This room can be used in a number of ways, including for pre-dinner drinks, laid out in theatre style for presentations or boardroom style for larger meetings.
