Three of These are Not Like the Others Direction Sheet: Leader Rabban Gamliel, a Jewish sage from the Talmudic era, said that there were three items that had to be mentioned in a Passover Seder, Pesach (paschal lamb), Matzah (unleavened bread), and Maror (bitter herbs). For this clue, we have given you twelve headbands, all with different symbols relating to Passover. If there will be fewer than twelve people at your Seder, or fewer than that who you think might want to participate in a game, don't include all the headbands among the clues. However, when choosing headbands, make sure, that you include Pesach, Matzah and Maror. Once the participants have guessed who they are and deduced that the symbols they are looking for are Pesach, Matzah and Maror, they still have one more step before they have the "key" to the word lock. Each symbol has a pattern in the background. Hidden in these pictures are the letters that make up the word "each." They will find it if they "see themselves" using the enclosed mirror as the letters are backwards. Materials needed o Headbands – one per participant (if you are making your own you will need one 36” ribbon per person) o Passover Picture Cards – downloaded and printed on cardstock o A small mirror Prepare in advance o Download and print the headband pictures – there are twelve of them covering two sheets of paper. If possible, print them onto card stock and cut them apart. If you are unable to do that, cut them apart first and glue them onto poster board or foam core. o Attach approximately 36 inches of one-inch ribbon to the back of each picture, with the picture centered in the middle, so that they can be tied around participants’ heads with the picture facing out on their foreheads. o Set the lock so that it is able to spell the word "each". Remember, gather everything you need for this puzzle, including the directions for participants, and put it into a large, numbered envelope. ©2017 JTeach.org Board of Jewish Education of Metropolitan Chicago’s Online Resource Center Three of These are Not Like the Others Direction Sheet: Participants At the end of the Seder we sing "Who knows One?" a song about remembering. Tonight, our "who knows" is all about guessing. Have one person put a headband on each guest with the picture facing out. Make sure than no one sees the picture on their own forehead. Asking only yes or no questions, everyone has to figure out who or what they are. When everyone has guessed, find the three headbands that Rabban Gamliel says must be mentioned at a Passover Seder. Dayenu - It would have been enough if you had just found the three symbols. But this time it's not. There's a clue hidden within. Find it and you'll have the missing lyric to another famous Passover song: In every generation __ __ __ __ of us is required to see him or herself as if we, personally, left Egypt. You'll also have the key to another lock. ©2017 JTeach.org Board of Jewish Education of Metropolitan Chicago’s Online Resource Center Three of These are Not Like the Others ©2017 JTeach.org Board of Jewish Education of Metropolitan Chicago’s Online Resource Center Three of These are Not Like the Others ©2017 JTeach.org Board of Jewish Education of Metropolitan Chicago’s Online Resource Center
