Cubmaster:
(Sits with the Scouts at the Campfire)
(Talking to the boys, loudly for the whole pack to hear)
When an Indian boy has learned certain skills or knowledge, an elder of the tribe
sits with him at a fire and questions him about what he has learned and gives him
some advice for his next stage of learning.
Cubmaster:
The Bobcat trail has seven tracks:
The First Track is: The Cub Scout Promise.
Will you please recite the promise with me?
The Cubmaster and boys say it together: I, ........, promise to do my best, to do my
duty to God and my country, To help other people, and To obey the law of the
Pack.
Cubmaster asks: What does the promise mean?
Cubmaster replies:
Promise to do my best. That means at all times, when you are with the scouts
and all the time.
Duty to God: Put God first. Do what you know God wants you to do. My Country:
Do what you can for your country. Be proud that you are an American.
Help other people: Do what you can to aid others.

Obey the Law of the Pack: Be a good Cub Scout. Be proud that you are one.
Assistant Cubmaster:
(Light a Candle now, and at the end of each track, during the following story)
Cubmaster:
The Second Track is: The Law of the Pack
The Cub Scout follows Akela - Akela is a good leader and teacher. Your mother
and father are Akela. In the pack, the Cubmaster is. In the den, your den leader.
In school, your teacher. Listen, and hear the words of Akela.
The Cub Scout helps the pack go - Come to the meetings. Do what you can to
help.
The pack helps the Cub Scout grow - You can have fun when you are part of
the pack. Learn things from others. Do things with them.
The Cub Scout gives goodwill - Smile. Be Happy. Do things that make others
happy. They don't have to be big things. Little things help too.
The Third Track is: What does Webelos means?
Cubmaster replies: Webelos means "We'll Be Loyal Scouts."
The Fourth Track is: The Cub Scout Sign.
You have learned the Cub Scout sign. The two fingers stand for two parts of the
promise. "To help other people" and "to obey"

The Fifth Track is: The Cub Scout Handshake
You have learned the Cub Scout Handshake. It uses the Cub Scout Sign with
your Cub Scout Buddy.
The Sixth Track is: The Cub Scout Motto: Do Your Best
You have learned the Cub Scout motto: Do Your Best. This means when you play
a game, when you study in school, and when you are at home. Whatever you do,
always do your best.
The Seventh Track is: The Cub Scout Salute
You have learned the Cub Scout Salute. A salute is a way to show respect to
your leaders. It shows that you look up to them and respect them. We salute the
flag to show respect to our country.
Cubmaster:
(stands)
Stand with me, for it is now time to hear the path of the Cub Scout Trail, and
receive your award.
Follow your Akela and our Boy Scout Den Chiefs while I gather your parents.
Assistant Cubmaster:
(Parade the scouts in the same line but now the horse-shoe opens up to the audience.)

Boy Scout Den Chiefs:
(Spread out the boys from wall to wall, so that we can accommodate all the parents behind
the boys.)
Cubmaster:
(Walks to the outside of the campfire circle – closer to the large Pack audience.)
Will the parents of these new Bobcats please join us at the Pack Campfire, by
coming up and standing behind your son?
Boy Scout Den Chiefs:
(Wait until all the parents have lined up behind their parents.)
(Walk behind the line of parents and scouts and hand out the Bobcat badges and Parents
Pledge cards to the parents.)
Assistant Cubmaster:
(Wait until all the parents have lined up behind their parents.)
As the Pilgrim’s moved west along the Cherokee Trail, they followed
a train blazed by others who came before them. Just as those
settlers followed others on the Cherokee, our Cub Scouts too follow
others on the Cub Scout “Arrow of Light” Trail.

(Hold the Cub Scout Symbol up)
This is our purpose as a Pack, to have fun while we advance through our ranks in
the Cub Scouts.
(Place the Cub Scout Symbol on Symbol Board)
Tiger Den Leader:
(Hold the Tiger Cub Scout Symbol up)
The Tiger Badge is for First Grade Scouts and is the first
rank you can earn in Cub Scouts. The Tiger trail will test your
ability to do feats of skill. You will go on your outings to
explore, you will make new friends and you will learn the
ways of Scouting while having fun.
(Place the Tiger Cub Scout Symbol on Symbol Board)
Wolf Den Leader:
(Hold the Wolf Scout & Light of Christ Symbols up)
Earning the Wolf Rank happens while you are in the second
grade. As a Wolf you will learn about our country’s flag and
the community where you live. You will learn about tools and build things.
You will be able to earn about the Light of Christ religious Emblem, and how
important your family is. After you earn your Wolf Badge, you will do many fun and
interesting things to earn Arrow points. You can send messages in secret code,
invent a new game, sing songs, grow plants, raise a pet, or build your own kite
and fly it. Good luck, have fun, and remember to “Do Your Best.”
(Place the Wolf Scout & Light of Christ Symbols on the Symbol Board)

Bear Den Leader:
(Hold the Bear Scout Symbol up)
As Scouts, we all make a promise do our best and do our duty to God and our
country. When you begin the third grade, you become a Bear
Scout, you will learn more about our commitment to God, our
country, our family, and us. When you earn the Bear badge, it is
proof that you have kept the Cub Scout promise. It is truly
something to be proud of. You will find the trail a little harder than
the wolf badge, but that is ok. You will be a year older and a year
smarter! As long as you do your best, you will find the Bear badge will be soon on
your uniform wear it with pride.
(Place the Bear Scout Symbol on the Symbol Board)
Webelos Patrol Leader:
(Hold the Webelos Scout & Parvuli Dei Symbols up)
Welcome new Scouts! The Webelos badge is the final
path, which will teach you how to be Loyal Scouts.
Webelos stands for ‘We’ll BE Loyal Scouts’. During your
time as Webelos, you will become leaders of the pack and
do things the only our older scouts get to do, like helping
welcome a new group of cub scouts just like you. They
earn the Parvuli Dei Emblem (“Par-vule-ee Day-ee”) which
means “Children of God” and is the highest Catholic Award
for Cub Scouts.

Webelos also fun while earning the “Arrow of Light” award, which is the highest
rank you can earn in Cub Scouting. In fact, you can wear both the Parvuli Dei
Emblem and the Arrow of Light Award on your Boy Scout Uniform when you
continue in into Boy Scouts. It might seem like a long way away, but tonight you
will take your first step toward becoming loyal scouts by becoming a Bobcat.
(Place the Webelos Scout & Parvuli Dei Symbols on the Symbol Board)
Assistant Cubmaster:
Akela, these Cub Scouts …
(Gesture to the existing Cub Scout Pack)
(Hold up the Arrow of Light Symbol)
… are on the trail toward the Arrow of Light, the highest
rank in Cub Scouts. No matter where they started their
journey, they all started with the Bobcat.
They have begun traveling a trail that our new scouts have not yet traveled.
(Gesture to the group formed to earn their Bobcat)
When the settlers traveled such a trail, they looked for help from the Indians.
When you travel such a trail, cubs, your parents and leaders will be there to help
you.
Cubmaster:
(Walk to the table with the Pack Log, and light the three candles)
(Wait for all the parents, and Scouts to be quiet)
In front of me you will see our Pack Log with three candles.

The white candle that is burning so brightly, stands for the Spirit of Scouting, this
candle brightens all of our meetings…
the blue candle, stands for the Cub Scout..
and the gold candle, is for the parents.
Parents, without our help, your son's candle will fade and finally go out. If we work
with our sons and guide than along Akelas trail, their light will always shine
brightly.
Scouts, please turn and face your parents. Parents, please pin your son’s Bobcat
Badge on the left pocket of their uniform so that the badge is upside down.
(wait for the parents to complete)
Parents, please repeat the Parent’s Pledge with me
(reads a few words, then Parents follow)
"We as parents will do our best...
to aid and assist our son…
in his Cub Scout activities.
We will encourage him with patience...
and we realize that the Cub Scout program...
thrives on participation by the parents also.
We will assist as we are able...

in serving as leaders, advisers and helpers."
Scouts, before you can have the Bobcat Badge turned right-side-up and sewn on
your uniform, you must do a good deed, and tell your den leader about your deed
at your next meeting.
Congratulations to all of you on becoming Bobcats.
Assistant Cubmaster:
(faces the Pack audience)
How about a special cheer for our new Bobcat Scouts and families!
(Leads cheer)
Assistant Cub Master, Den Leaders, and Boy Scout Chiefs:
