Supervisory responsibility for: 5 x Grade 7 Faculty Student Learning Advisers;
1 x Grade 7 Mathematics Student Learning Advisor

Includes: Staff in Academic departments and Faculties, students, LUSU, Library Staff, OED, ISS, SBS and other
Professional Services departments, Colleges
External:
Includes: Learning development and student services staff at other universities, sectoral agencies and service
suppliers, visitors.
National and global bodies as appropriate (e.g., ALDinHE, HEA, QAA, SCONUL, JISC, EFMD )
The Role:
1. Student Learning Development Strategy
• Leading on implementation and further developing the Student Learning Development strategy to ensure
all students receive a high quality and consistent learner experience
• Leading and managing the effective delivery of Student Learning Development services for learners across
all Faculties in close cooperation with Faculty Deans and academic and professional services colleagues
• Identifying and implementing innovative policies, practices and new technologies that direct and improve
Student Learning Development and which ensure a consistency of support for all types of students across
all faculties
• Proactively developing and managing effective internal and external relationships and the network of
learning development practitioners
• Chairing and defining the future composition and remit of the Learning Development Oversight Group in
order to champion Learning Development across the institution
2. Team and Resources Management
• Leading, managing and developing a Learning Development team; driving effective performance through
identification of efficient and effective practices and ensuring the design and delivery of feedback
mechanisms to support service improvement
• Ensuring teams deliver an excellent, coordinated service that supports the student learning journey and
seeks to exceed expectations
• Promoting an ethos of continuous improvement and adopting best practice; motivating the team to deliver
excellent provision
• Working with Senior Library colleagues to provide advice, guidance and accurate reporting to relevant
committees and contribute to planning and the development of best practice
• Plan and manage the budget for the Student Learning Development provision ensuring that allocated
facilities, equipment and resources are used effectively, including identifying opportunities for additional
funding/resource provision
3. Student Learning Development Practice
• Leading the development of advice, information and guidance services to effectively support student

recruitment, learning, retention, achievement and progression
Leading on the development and co-ordination of resource provision that encourages independent
learning and seeks to embed opportunities within the curriculum
Providing advice, guidance and support to learners a in a wide range of complex scenarios
4. Other
 To work with a high degree of autonomy, which includes policy decisions within areas of operational
responsibility
 To undertake any other duties appropriate to the grade of the post as required by the Head of Academic
Services
